Best Songs from the Mars Volta's Bedlam in Goliath
The Mars Volta is a progressive rock band formed by Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López in 2001. The Bedlam in Goliath is their fourth album and was released in 2008.A very weird-sounding song. While the riff is playing in the background, there are a great deal of bizarre sounds, and everything sounds glitchy yet really cool. I love the vocal effects used in the chorus - very reminiscent of Planet Caravan by Black Sabbath. The violin is also really good.
This stupid song has been stuck in my head for a week at this point, yet I still can't hate it, thanks to the absolutely infectious chorus and how fun the song is. The instrumental break in the middle sounds a lot like 21st Century Schizoid Man in terms of drums.
The transition between Aberinkula and this is absolutely amazing. The vocals are pretty good, and the way the song changes is quite nice. Just an epic song in general.
The best vocals of the album, bar none. This feels straight out of De-Loused, yet still has its own slight unique spin on things. The drumming is insane here, and the chorus is second best - Goliath having a better one in my opinion.
My god, this song is insane.
Great saxophone mixed with great vocals. The way the outro gradually creates more static and screaming before kicking straight back into the chorus one last time was nicely done.
A short, sharp song with some amazing drumming and nice vocal overlays. It's honestly surprising to see such a short song by these guys.
The main thing I really like about this song is the drumming section, which sounds very similar to Drunkship of Lanterns. I associate this with amazing drumming.
Every single time I start this album, the first 3 seconds give me a near heart attack. It also shows how this album will sound - much louder, noisier, and more energetic. It's an adequate album opener.
A more simplistic song, but it's just so amazingly groovy, with an amazing buildup to the main part of the song, and an amazing melody the entire way through. The drumming is also exceptional.
I love the energy of this song. It also marks the beginning of the more experimental second half of the album. There are a lot of weird ambient effects that work quite well, with riffs that break down into noise for about 5-20 seconds before kicking back in. It's cool and unique, although somewhat overlong.
