Top 10 Reasons Why Ditto is a Failed Clone of Mew
Yes, we're starting this again, and you have just found yourself in the middle of this.
There are many fan theories claiming that Ditto is a failed clone of Mewtwo. Let's look at some of the most commonly cited reasons.
-
The only two games Ditto is not in are Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Legends: Z-A. In the former, Mewtwo isn't available since he doesn't exist yet. In the latter, Mewtwo was recently transported to the area you can find him in.
Honestly, I love this little snippet. I found this in a YouTube video and will treasure it forever.
-
Ditto do not like other Ditto.
"With its astonishing capacity for metamorphosis, it can get along with anything. It does not get along well with its fellow Ditto." - Pokemon Moon Pokedex.
I like to think of this like how Mewtwo hates Mew.
-
Mew and Ditto are the only Pokémon who can naturally learn the move "Transform."
The similarity is weird, don't you think?
-
Junichi Masuda, the one who said Ditto wasn't a clone of Mew, also said in the same interview that people don't eat Pokémon (though they eat Tatsugiri and Slowpoke tail, among other things) and more incorrect facts.
This proves that he may not have been right. He was also not the only one who worked on Ditto.
-
Ditto can manipulate its genetic code.
"Capable of copying an opponent's genetic code to instantly transform itself into a duplicate of the enemy." - Pokemon LeafGreen Pokedex.
Mew contains the genetic code of every being in Pokemon. Mewtwo is a copy of Mew's genetic code. Ditto can literally change its genetic code to copy any Pokemon, even other Dittos. The genetic code trend continues.
-
Mew is meant to look like an embryo. Embryos start with a single living cell. Ditto is made to look like an amoeba, a single-celled organism.
This is just a cool fact in general without considering what this means. You can see the connection pretty clearly with this one, though.
-
Mew contains the genetic code of all Pokémon, and Ditto can breed with every Pokémon except for some Legendaries (for obvious reasons, like how we don't want someone to have a team full of Rayquaza).
It's pretty cool.
-
Ditto has a similar color and shiny color to Mew, as well as the same weight.
That has to mean something. Of course, this doesn't do much alone, which is why there's this entire list about this stuff.
-
Mewtwo is mentioned to be the only "successful" clone of Mew.
This implies there were multiple tries.
-
The word "ditto" means "the same thing again."
So it could be the same as Mew.
I put this at the bottom because it could also just mean that Ditto could copy other Pokemon.
