Best Social Media Websites and Services

The Top Ten
  1. Facebook

Facebook is an online social networking service owned by Meta Platforms, which is headquartered in Menlo Park, California. The platform allows users to interact by commenting on posts, using the Marketplace, sharing photos, making video calls, watching short clips, dating, and playing games within the... read more

Facebook is the best out of all these sites. Facebook has 500 million users. Facebook has all the stuff Twitter can do, plus more. Facebook has chat, which lets you talk live with people. The only thing Twitter has is that you can only update your page with one word.

Facebook is definitely the most improved website on the World Wide Web. It has the most people and has a lot of very good features and very nice, addicting games. I go on Facebook 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. Got it? It is simply the BEST.

Coolest social network EVER! And it's gonna stay like that. The thing has changed my life and gave me an outlook on society. No other sites are nearly as good. Facebook rocks.

  2. YouTube

YouTube is a global video-sharing website headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States. It was created by three former PayPal employees on February 14, 2005. In November 2006, Google acquired YouTube for US$1.65 billion, and it is currently ranked as the second most visited website worldwide... read more

YouTube is my life. It taught me to draw, it gave me my humor, I can search up videos that are informative or humorous or both, and it is the reason why I play so many video games. Hell, it even introduced me to one of my favorite video games, Majora's Mask! YouTube is definitely the best social media website of all time.

I go on YouTube daily. You rarely get banned from YouTube unless you upload gore, porn, illegal recipes, or something like that. Sadly, the content is sometimes low quality. But censoring stuff because we don't like it would be removing freedom of speech.

  3. Instagram

Hello? How is Instagram ranked 5th? As the years go by, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Tumblr are getting older each day. Facebook constantly has these terrible updates where your privacy gets invaded every day, and nothing is fun anymore. You have to pay money on Facebook (not to get a Facebook, just to have more fun with it). Ew.

Twitter may not try to invade privacy, but it is just as complicated and boring. MySpace? What? Who has that anymore? Nobody says, "Let's go on MySpace tomorrow and chat," or "Check my MyPage tomorrow, okay?"

Tumblr? It's just a complicated mess, and without any followers, you have no fun. It's easier to get followers on Instagram, and it is very simple and fun to use. Instagram is the new king!

  4. X (formerly Twitter)

X (formerly known as Twitter) is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, also known as "tweets," limited to 280 characters. A site where you can follow your friends and your favorite celebrities? And a site where you can get updates every time a celebrity tweets (if you want it to)? COUNT ME IN! Twitter is the site to use.

It is almost the same as Facebook, but it is used by fewer people than Facebook. This is why it comes in 4th place, but it is still a great place to meet people and share nice moments with friends.

MySpace before Twitter? I do not think so.

Twitter is an amazing social network. I did not vote for Facebook because it already has many votes and is at the top of the list.

  5. Snapchat

Snapchat is an American multimedia instant messaging app developed by Snap Inc., originally known as Snapchat Inc. One of its core features is that messages and photos sent through the app are typically accessible only for a short period before disappearing. Over time, Snapchat expanded to include features... read more

I love Snapchat. It's a great way to send pictures to your friends without them having a chance to keep them forever and tease you with them.

I love Snapchat. It's so easy to be private and send pics. I also love the stories concept.

  6. Tumblr

Tumblr is a microblogging and social networking website founded by David Karp in 2007. It was later acquired by Yahoo! in 2013, then by Verizon Communications through its subsidiary Oath Inc., and eventually sold to Automattic in 2019. Tumblr allows users to post multimedia and other content to a short-form... read more

Tumblr has a lot more depth and diversity than any social media. You can share quotes, pictures, videos, text posts, and chats. I personally believe that there are two sides to Tumblr: Hipster and Fandom. They're kind of like sisters.

Hipster wakes up at 5 A.M. to take candid shots of nature, and Fandom is putting away her midnight snacks. Without one side, Tumblr wouldn't work. It appeals to everything and everyone, even if you're not that into blogging. That's why they invented reblogging.

By far the deepest and most meaningful of all social media. Facebook is too old nowadays, while Instagram is for people who do not know how to waste their time and just copy/paste quotes from Tumblr.

Tumblr is much more interesting than all the others, so accept it, Facebook and Instagram users. You all want to be like Tumblr users, but will never accomplish it.

  7. TheTopTens

TheTopTens is a countdown-based website launched on November 18, 2005, which consists of user-generated content.

Visitors can vote, comment, like other comments, and view user-created remixes. Registered users have access to additional features on the site, such as creating lists, remixes, posts... read more

This is kind of a social network site. Maybe not in the most traditional sense, but it is dedicated to people who just want to get their opinion out there about stuff they love and see how their opinions stand up against the public's opinions.

It is possible to comment without any account. It is also very democratic in a good way. The only downside is that sometimes not everything exists.

TheTopTens is fun. I always searched everywhere.

  8. MySpace

    Can't be creative with Facebook.

  9. PassionsNetwork.com

Passions Network is a dating and social networking website, consisting of over 200 niche sites focused on varying areas of interest. These include communities centered around specific hobbies, lifestyles, and beliefs. The network aims to connect users based on shared passions.

Launched in 2004, Passions Network is an online dating social network comprised of a huge number of unique communities, allowing members to find others who share their 'passions' in life.

  10. Pinterest

Good and beautiful stuff collected from the web.

Pinterest deserves to be way higher!

Ok, I've never actually looked at it, but I know what it is. It's pretty cool.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Archive of Our Own

The best place for all of your fanfictions.

I don't know why I had to add this to the list, but it's easy to navigate, upload, and read. The only minor problem is you usually have to wait about three days for your account to appear because there's a waiting list. My account had a short wait, luckily, and I only waited one day.

It's completely free, fan-made, and has no ads. It's perfect.

  13. ?

    Fandom

A very fun social media website that allows you to learn more about certain games, shows, and much more.

You can also meet people with the same interests as you on this website.

  14. The Contenders
  15. Reddit

Reddit (stylized in lowercase) is an American social news aggregation, content rating, and discussion website. Registered users, known as "Redditors," submit content including links, text posts, images, and videos. Other users then vote these submissions up or down.... read more

Reddit is one of those social media sites where you can really choose what you need to do with it. If you want to become a mindless Internet zombie (the kind you find on Twitter), that's an easy trap to slip into on this site, and yet it's the best forum site ever created.

I use it personally to be a nerd about things that I can't be a nerd about anywhere else, and mainly for productive things. It's one of those hit-or-miss sites that hit so hard every other forum site was jolted farther away when it did.

Reddit is basically the perfect social network. It is heavily moderated and keeps trolls out. It allows for civil, thoughtful discussion and has something for everyone. There are practically endless communities to explore.

It's wonderful. Facebook, that repugnant cesspool of minion memes, has nothing on Reddit.

  16. Linkedin

LinkedIn is a business and employment-oriented social networking platform. It was launched in 2003 and is accessible via web and mobile applications. The platform allows professionals to connect, share resumes, post job opportunities, and engage in industry-related discussions.

  18. Discord

I'm kind of glad it's not the most popular thing. It's nice having a good, tightly knit community.

  19. Flickr

Flickr is an image and video hosting service created by Ludicorp in 2004. It has changed ownership several times and has been owned by SmugMug since April 2018. As of 2023, Flickr hosts billions of images and continues to serve as a platform for photographers and visual artists to share their work.

  20. Kik

  21. WhatsApp

I post most of my art on DeviantArt. It's a really fun social media platform, and the greatest thing is, you can be as involved as you like. Unlike many other social media platforms, you can just post occasionally for everyone to see something you're really proud of or be on there every day doing something you like.

DeviantART is by far the best! Whatever your interests, there is art, and you can post whatever you want!

  23. TikTok

TikTok, known in China as Douyin, is a short-form video hosting service owned by the Chinese company ByteDance.

It hosts a wide variety of user-generated videos in genres such as pranks, stunts, tricks, jokes, dance, and general entertainment. Videos range in duration from three seconds up to... read more

It has grown far faster than any other platform in popularity and has had the most downloads (more than YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, or Facebook). This is because it's the most fun, entertaining, and friendly of them all.

You can interact and entertain audiences with many things, from songs to random videos. You can even watch YouTube on it via links and explore other sites with its search and link features. There's so much to discover! It's true that it's better than the others, and to think it started out as Musical.ly before evolving into the grandfather of all apps.

TikTok is the peak of social media in terms of growth. This definitely deserves to be ranked higher.
