Top 10 Most Annoying Things About Discord

Like any social media platform, Discord has its pros and cons. I'll be going over some of the most annoying things about the platform. Feel free to contribute.

The Top Ten
  1. Its frequent predator problem

While this doesn't just apply to Discord and can also be said about any social media website, it's still worth mentioning.

Like any social media website before it, Discord has also become a place where predators can be found and will engage in very disturbing material with people they shouldn't be in contact with. Some of these people, to my knowledge, have been arrested, but it's still going to be a recurring problem, just like on other sites. Very disgusting all around.

Thank God I stopped using it. I stopped using it in 2020.

  2. Servers with absurd or overly strict rules

It's somewhat of a dead meme, but some servers have rules that are honestly baffling. I can understand basic stuff like don't be a douche, no politics, or other simple things that make sense.

Some servers, though, have rules that don't make any sense. While this doesn't apply to ALL servers, there are certainly a handful with very head-scratching rules.

  3. The @everyone ping

This doesn't apply all the time, but if you're busy doing something or have things going on, this ping can get old within seconds.

It's fine in moderation, but some people abuse this ping, and it becomes a migraine after a while. This is why it's best to only use it in short bursts for important announcements and not something that should be used 24/7.

  4. Its AI moderation system

For those who don't know, Discord has a Profile Standing section that you can find in settings. Essentially, it's programmed by AI to detect if you are breaking any rules, and if you get enough violation warnings, your account can be permanently removed.

The appeal system is also incredibly flawed, as it is mostly run by AI, so the chances of you getting a hold of an actual person are slim to none.

I hate AI, especially AI-generated art.

  5. Profile report scams

How these scams typically work is that someone will claim to have reported your account and request your login information to resolve this.

Now, anyone who's even averagely intelligent can tell that this is a blatant scam. Despite this, it is a recurring issue on Discord, and it can lead to your account being hacked or altered on a whim. So be cautious of who you add on it, honestly.

  6. Its character limit

Discord does have a text limit, and I believe it's around 2,000 words or so. Granted, Nitro gives you slightly more words, but it seems excessive all around because you have to condense certain paragraphs for them to work. If you're into creative writing, it's especially a huge migraine.

Or let's just say you're a memelord trying to post a long copypasta. I get why it has a limit, but that limit can be aggravating at times.

  7. File size limit

  8. Random mic disconnects during VCs

This seems to happen a lot, not just to me but to other people I talk to, where the mic will randomly lose connection and stop working for some reason.

I can't tell if it's a Wi-Fi issue or the Discord servers being janky. It could be both, for all I know. Either way, it's pure annoyance every time.

  9. The excessive Nitro store

While this is merely an optional feature and NOT something you're required to use, it can be a little excessive to stumble across, especially when it's advertised heavily on the platform.

It can be avoided, and generally speaking, there are worse issues than this. But much like Facebook's store or TikTok's store, it's a little much. I'm also going to put this lower because it's not as annoying as some other issues.

  10. Its quest feature

Discord's quest feature is something I don't care for, nor do I consider it worthwhile. But it does become annoying when you frequently get this thrown in your face when you're using the app.

I get the intention behind it being a way to gauge member interest, but it comes off as unnecessary and borderline lame half the time. Not a fan of it, honestly.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    AI age verification

The final straw that broke the camel's back for me. Already deleted one Discord account, set my other to be deleted on March 15th. So, around March 29th or March 30, my last Discord account will show up as deleted. I use Stoat now, so it's not a total loss regardless.

  13. ?

    Servers that lack proper moderation

  14. The Contenders
  15. Bad words being allowed on servers

Going to be real here, I don't care about swear words being said on servers. To me, that's a giant nothing burger and nothing worth getting upset over. However, where I draw the line is when slurs are being used. I think those are arguably worse than swear words for obvious reasons.

  16. Friend requests from unknown people

Whether it be a stranger or some random person on a server, these requests can sometimes be a little annoying. I'm not putting this super high on the list because it's easily avoidable by using the block button above all. However, I will include it nonetheless because this is something that applies to all social media platforms, so it goes without saying.

That's why I'm rarely on social media.

  17. Mods banning you for bad reasons

  18. Servers giving some users more rights than others

  19. Users invading servers and purposely breaking rules

  20. Blocks don't have time limit settings

  21. Mods refusing to unblock you from a server

  22. Inappropriate discussions
