Top 10 Worst Shell Cup Courses in Mario Kart

Since Mario Kart DS, the Shell Cup has been the first retro cup in each game and tends to contain the simpler retro tracks in a given game, most often from the Mushroom Cup and occasionally from the Flower Cup. Which Shell Cup tracks are the worst? Read the list to find out.

The Top Ten
  1. GBA Peach Circuit (DS)

Honestly, one of the worst tracks of all time in Mario Kart. Why? Well, GBA Peach Circuit is one of, if not the most boring circuit tracks of all time. At least in Figure-8 Circuit you can practise snaking, and it is kinda unique for being the only track resembling a generic raceway. This, however, is so much worse. No boost pads, just road.

I seriously think the original on the GBA was better because at least it was shorter and felt more lively for its system.

  2. SNES Mario Circuit 1 (DS)

As the first retro track ever in Mario Kart, the creators decided to do the first Mario Kart track ever, which is also one of the most BORING tracks of all time. You've got five turns and that's it. It's a little prettier than GBA Peach Circuit, though, which puts it a spot lower.

  3. N64 Moo Moo Farm (DS)

One of the most overrated tracks of all time. It's legit just a circle of lean orange ground with no texture and a small tunnel. The rest is a bland green mess with fake cows, and even the sky looks super ugly. The only somewhat decent part is the music, but even then it makes it even more bland. So yeah.

  4. N64 Luigi Raceway (3DS)

It's a pretty boring track. Really, it's just a B with a generic design. Okay, it's not an abomination, though. I mean, the music is pretty good, and the balloons are cool. I like the tunnel and the fact that you can drive on the sides, but overall it's easily one of the most boring courses of all time.

You can't even shortcut properly because there are no real shortcuts. Just, why? But at least it's a little more interesting than the top three, which puts this track below them.

  5. GBA Bowser Castle 1 (3DS)

The most boring and easy Bowser Castle track ever. But I mean, it's the first one on the GBA, and it's the second course in the Shell Cup, so what'd you expect?

Now, I must confess, I think it looks amazing with the walls, and it really feels hot, but the design is just so basic and too easy. The turns are 90 degrees, but it's so wide that it's barely a challenge at all. On later laps, a glider ramp appears, making it a little more fun, but overall it's one of the most boring tracks in the game.

  6. SNES Ghost Valley 2 (Wii)

My old enemy. I remember trying for AGES to beat the normal staff ghost data for YEARS, but it was so annoying. Now it's a little nostalgic, though, and thus, as a result, I've found this to be a bittersweet track.

From an objective perspective, it also isn't great at all. It's incredibly simple and annoying, with the broken-off roads at the edges. I do have some nostalgia for it, and it's not as bad as the SNES version, but it still isn't a very good track.

  7. GCN Luigi Circuit (DS)

  8. GBA Mario Circuit (Wii U)

  9. Wii Moo Moo Meadows (Wii U)

  10. GCN Peach Beach (Wii)
