Worst Animation Studios

The Top Ten
1 Video Brinquedo

In the us we call them toyland video but hate them just the same, I mean look how boring ratatoing is! the only movie by the that I like a single thing of is little cars and I liked tiny robots just a little bit

They ripoff several Disney and Dreamworks films. Their worst film has got to be either Ratatoing or The Little Panda Fighter

Responsible for a lot of terrible Disney/Pixar/Dreamworks rip-offs, such as The Little Panda Fighter and Ratatoing.

Shameless terrible carbon copies of more successful movie by better companies

2 Splash Entertainment

Not only Norm of the North, but the newest Alpha & Omega sequels which both AniMat and Bobsheaux reviewed the same way I would. - The Ultimate Daredevil to SplashMoun10

Worse than Illumination due to the fact that all movies are low-quality

They also made a horrible cartoon named Butt-Ugly Martians.

They are known for making awful content

3 Illumination

When I think of Illumination, I think of some of the least imaginative movies ever created. With their cheap animation process leaving their movies to look horrible, to their basic stories that are trying to pander to every type of kid (Sing), to their horrible interpretation of some Dr Seuss stories, and the blatent rip of of other famous animated movies in The Secret Life of Pets. It seems their creative team lost any sort of creativity after the original Despicable Me and they couldn't even produce another film in the same franchise that gets anywhere near the original. And lastly they created Minions.

When I review Despicable M3, I will be sure to rant about this pathetic excuse for an animation studio. They are unoriginal and lazy and only care about making money. Despicable Me is the only good movie they have. Everything else ranges from mediocre to horrendous. Despicable Me 2 was awful, Hop was offensive trash, the 2016 movies they made were mediocre, and Minions is one of the absolute worst movies I have ever seen in my entire life.

See my comment for Sony, some are good and some are bad, sometimes I feel like Illumination's haters are badnwagoning, I seriously don't see the hate for the Despicable Me series, all the haters say is "It's childish and pathetic", I respect opinions and all, but how are they the worst? And yes, I hate Hop, TSLoP and Sing, but their Lorax movie was great with a great message and their Despicable Me franchise is legendary including the overhated Minions

By far the worst mainstream hollywood studio. At ten movies, I would say the original Despicable Me and the Lorax are the only solid movies all the way through from here that don't contain any that major flaws. Despicable Me 2 and 3 in my opinion, are pretty good too, but they have both excellent bits and horrid bits. The rest contain no quality at all.

4 Spark Plug Entertainment

I hope Pixar buys Spark Plug Enternainment, even though the modern Spark Plug Entertainment movies are actually Fantasia compared to the earlier ones! - The Ultimate Daredevil, thinking out something very devious and brand-new

Another studio that makes direct-to-video knockoff films, such as A Car's Life.

They make freaking Video Brinquedo films look like masterpieces.

Also plagiarists.

5 Threshold Entertainment

This should be tied at number 1 with video Brinquedo because they made Foodfight the worst movie ever.

Foodfight! Enough said.

6 Sony

Yeah, they made the emoji movie, but lets address other movies. Cloudy and a chance of meatballs is ok, but is a sequel necessary? And hang on, I've just discovered there has been a T.V. show... Open Season, not seen it but fair enough. But 3 sequels that no one has heard of? That's bad. Talking about T.V. shows, they are turning all their franchises into T.V. shows. Why? Because the audience want it? I bet no one even knows about a hotel transylvania T.V. show.
Looking at their films in development, I hope some of these are just working titles and that they are going to change the name later...
All in all, let's just say my brand loyalty only extends to my Sony phone...

When Sony makes a good movie, it's really good. Otherwise, it usually sucks big time. I'm one of the few to slightly defend the Emoji Movie because I think it creatively incorporates different apps into a movie, but that's an exception in terms of hated movies. I also stomach the Hotel Transylvania trilogy and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs duology, and the Aardman crossovers, but everything else..., trash (haven't seen Spider-Man yet).

This studio is a bowl of crap. The only GOOD movie they made was Cloudy 1. I don't know about Surf's Up, Open Season and Arthur Christmas, I heard they were good but I didn't see them. The other movies they made is teen angst bullcrap, hair melodrama, marvel crap, and a bunch of predictable crap.

Sony is absolutely horrible and they put pretty much no passion into anything they make. The Emoji Movie will definitely suck, and they're also behind Angry Birds and The Amazing Spider Man.

7 Titanic Cartoons SRL Roma

The studio that produced Titanic: The Legend Goes On.

8 Unearthed Films

Please get this at number one, they made the worst movie ever

The studio that made Where the Dead Go to Die.

Where the Dead Go to Die.

9 Mondo TV

The studio that produced The Legend of the Titanic and Tentacolino.

10 Blue Sky Studios Blue Sky Studios was an American computer animation film studio based in Greenwich, Connecticut that has been owned by 20th Century Fox since 1997. The studio was founded in 1987 by Chris Wedge, Michael Ferraro, Carl Ludwig, Alison Brown, David Brown, and Eugene Troubetzkoy after the company they worked in, MAGI, one of the visual effects studios behind Tron, shut down.

They're not necessarily a bad company but their progress with the Ice Age franchise is the largest laughing stock in Hollywood (even if I liked 3 and 4), and Robots was such an abomination. The rest are pretty alright stuff though, such as Rio, Horton or Epic.

They literally spammed Ice Age to the point where there are NO ways to move the plot forward. The last movie was literally just the 1st movie except everyone's married now. Just watch Blue Sky, though. They're probably gonna recycle the plot of the 3rd movie for a "new" movie this 2017.

They made a movie being released later this year about Will Smith playing an Agent turned into a Pigeon.

The only films I like from these guys are the first few Ice Age films, The Peanuts Movie, and Ferdinand.

The Contenders
11 Lionsgate
12 The Weinstein Company

One of the most overrated companies of all time. Unfortunately, they gave us Underdogs (lest we forget the fact that it has the racist, spoiled, talentless, weak, compassion-faking Ariana Grande, ugh! ), Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil, Escape from Planet Earth, Unstable Fables and the only good and clever The Weinstein Company ever made is Hoodwinked, disregarding its extremely amateurish animation.

I only remember Escape from Planet Earth and Little Door Gods. I liked them but what can I say

Well, there is the matter of the Harvey Weinstein sexual misconduct allegations...

Escape from Planet Earth was UGGGH worst movie ever animated?

13 Walt Disney Animation Studios

Disney isn't a bad animation studio, I think they're great, but a lot of their 2010s films (loved their old classics and some of their 2000s films) haven't really caught my eye except for Moana and maybe Wreck-it Ralph. Tangled was alright but nothing special, Winnie the Pooh was horrible, I've no interest in seeing the overhyped Frozen and Zootopia, and I'm not too keen on the idea of them remaking their classics as live action films (do we need a live action Lion King? ), even if Jungle Book was alright and Maleficent was good as a different interpretation of Sleeping Beauty and improved upon parts of the original (giving Aurora more of a character/personality), it gives me the impression they're just for money besides doing new impressions.

I'm still looking forward to seeing Christopher Robin though.

I love Disney no way are you going to bash about then they work so hard at everything they do I love them they are my favorite

Maybe 2005 disney may I explain chicken little and horrible direct to video sequels except for winnie the pooh and lilo and stitch 2

As much as I love Disney, I can't help but sometimes think that their movies are only made to sell toys. Just look at Frozen

14 ToonBox Entertainment

Lest we forget the fact that they made Spark: A Space Tail. :( - The Ultimate Daredevil, who is surprised that AniMat did not review Spark which might as well disappoint him

The studio that produced The Nut Job and its upcoming sequel.

15 Dreamworks Animation DreamWorks Animation LLC (DWA, also known as DreamWorks Animation Studios and simply known as DreamWorks) is an American animation studio that produces animated films and television programs and is a subsidiary of Universal Pictures, a division of NBCUniversal, which is itself a division of Comcast. The studio has released 42 feature films as of September 2022.

I kind of agree with Saberspark that they've been going downhill lately. Don't get me wrong, they've made great movies like Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, etc., but I feel like they don't stand out as much as Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios do these days. Like Saberspark said, they tend to come out with average or below average films and only make good films once in a while. For example, The Boss Baby was a pretty lousy and stupid idea for an animated movie, especially given that it was so stupidly marketed with commercials nonstop heavily advertising that Alec Baldwin is voicing a baby boss. While Captain Underpants might turn out to be good, I would really love for DreamWorks Animation to step up their game and start making more original and high quality animated movies that aren't just cash grabs or overly marketed and overhyped forgettable features.

They used to be way better, especially with the days of Kung Fu Panda, Shrek and Croods. Madagascar is ok, but most of everything else is pretty mediocre. It's a shame this is one of the BEST american studios, seeing as the only really great companies in the US to me are Pixar, Laika and Aardman

They've declined. Even if I liked Captain Underpants, the lack of originality is there. The Boss Baby was also atrocious.

They've gone downhill recently, but they are not bad at all, they made great animations like kung fu panda, shrek and shrek 2, and HtTYD

16 Dingo Pictures
17 The Asylum

All the movie they make in this compagnie, are just rip-off of other populor movie that people know

18 Vanguard Animation

They deliberately underwhelmed the universe with Happily N'Ever After and Space Chimps, but their sequels and Get Squirrely are so horrible to the point where they gave me (which is The Ultimate Daredevil) a confidence boost to watch Crest Animation Studios's recent films, mockbusters and Sony films released in the 2010s... >8(

This studio never got fresh on rotten tomatoes

19 Venus Centre

Enchanted Princess Party? More like Disgusting Stupid Failure! This show sucks! This show is for babies! This show is a huge rip-off of Disney Princess which is way better. This show involves five preteen princesses who love to go on failure adventures together. Cindy is a huge crybaby. Bea is a big tear jerker. Bella is a spoiled brat. Clara is creepy. And Stella? Well! I don't care about her. The animation is bad, the voices are irritating, the music is stupid, and the characters are ugly. Thank god it got cancelled and taken off the air! I don't know who likes, hates, and neutrals to this show, so I'm gonna leave it be. So Enchanted Princess Party sucks! And so does Playhouse Disney Clay! Anyways, Ōban Star-Racers is octillion times better than Enchanted Princess Party, end of rant!

They ripped off Disney Princess for Enchanted Princess Party!

I used to watch Enchanted Princess Party when I was younger.

Spacetoon Interactive has CGI animated preteen girls for example.

20 Nickelodeon
21 DHX Media

Johnny Test and Caillou suck!

22 Pixar Pixar, also referred to as Pixar Animation Studios, is an American computer animation film studio based in Emeryville, California that is a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. Pixar began in 1979 as the Graphics Group, part of the Lucasfilm computer division, before its spin-out as a corporation in 1986, with funding by Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs, who became the majority shareholder. Disney purchased Pixar in 2006 at a valuation of $7.4 billion, a transaction that resulted in Jobs becoming Disney's largest single shareholder at the time. Pixar is best known for CGI-animated feature films created with RenderMan, Pixar's own implementation of the industry-standard RenderMan image-rendering ...read more.

Cars 2 is not the best animation studio of all time, but it is totally genius! Also, it's put here twice. - The Ultimate Daredevil

Everything but Cars 2 was good but it gets this spot because of CARS 2

Everything except Brave was great.

Actually the best one. No contest.

23 Warner Bros.

Their crap is nothing but cash grabs. They're entire series of crappy lego movies explains it all.

24 IFD Films and Arts Limited

The Hong Kong company behind such "classic" films like Beauty and Warrior, Ali Baba and the Gold Raiders, Thunder Prince, Space Thunder Kids, Savior of the Earth, Diatron-5/Space Transformers, Raiders of Galaxy, Protectors of Universe, and Captain of Cosmos.

25 Jetlag productions

Why can't they just make their own movies?

Lots of low budget Disney rip offs.
