The Top Ten

1 Luciano Pavarotti Luciano Pavarotti Luciano Pavarotti, Cavaliere di Gran Croce was an Italian operatic tenor who also crossed over into popular music, eventually becoming one of the most commercially successful tenors of all time.

Not a songwriter, since most of what he performed was opera and classical material more than a hundred years old. At well over 350 pounds, definitely NOT a dancer. Just the greatest male singing voice of all time, period; power, technique, tone, repertoire, projection, he had it all, and made all the rest seem like mere mortals.

Makes Freddie Mercury sound like a little choir boy.

The majority of his career was spent before recordings were possible, and nobody is left alive who heard him sing in person. Only a few very primitive 100 year old recordings exist of him at the end of his career, but if the legends are true, his was the only voice that could rival Pavarotti's.
