Top Ten Most Disturbing Animated TV Shows

The Top Ten
1 Courage the Cowardly Dog Courage the Cowardly Dog is an American animated horror comedy television series created by John R. Dilworth for Cartoon Network as part of the network's Cartoon Cartoons block.

I liked the Hunchback episode. It's where this deformed little guy with a hunchback goes around looking for lodging. He is refused because of his supposed ugliness, and stays in the Bagge's barn. Courage befriends him, and the next day he gives the best roast to Eustace who keeps treating him bad, even though he doesn't have much to say himself. Eventually after a confrontation with Eustace he had to leave, all happy about Muriel and Courage being kind.

Speaking of which, Eustace had a crappy life and was often poor. This grew worse when Muriel would give more attention to Courage, and that is why he is an antagonist.

Then of course, there's those villians, most of which aren't scary, though the blue guy from Perfect is more creepy than outright dangerous, and the Katz person is not usually scary though evil though a few times it is scary. King Ramses is funny to me.

This is no doubt the scariest and creepiest cartoon network comedy show, also very weird one as well( top 3 probably).. The atmosphere is pretty tight, helped a lot by the colors and art style. The storylines and the character are also pretty dark and scary. And the endings are many times "sad/bad endings"... Something that you rarely see in cartoons, similar with batman beyond from this point of view.

Also the best ever CN comedy series after spaced out, with only adventure time contending.

Most of the shows on this list are on Adult Swim. I'm thinking this list should be made for kids' animated shows - that's what makes it even more disturbing. Courage the Cowardly Dog.. I grew up with this show. Creepy as hell. Especially the "Return the Slab" and "Freaky Fred" episodes?

So there's this annoying blue cgi deformed trumpet fetus thing that appears once in the dog's dream after the dog has a hard day trying to be perfect, that's the weirdest thing I've probably ever seen, and the eyes are scary...at least it lasts for 10 seconds and no more do we see it

2 Happy Tree Friends Happy Tree Friends is an adult animated flash series created and developed by Aubrey Ankrum, Rhode Montijo, Kenn Navarro and Warren Graff for Mondo Media.

This show (the website series) was pretty disturbing very much but it's usually great anyways and I'm a bit of a fan of this show. I like cute animals, but I'm gonna take a break of being reacted over cute things and take up to the whole new level.

Don't let the cute, cuddly creatures fool you, this show is like Conker's Bad Fur Day. Flippy holds a Machete covered in blood, and soon the forest will be covered in blood and guts.

Parents beware, one of the goriest cartoons, this show Is definitely not for anyone under the age of 12, or really anyone who doesn't like seeing blood, because there's a lot of it.

I saw one episode a year ago(But I still remembered what happened). And they were having a lemonade stand(aw, cute =3). And everything was just fine until one scene. So one of them had their eyeball popped out(because the lemonade stand's wooden banner fell and landed right to the one who lost their eyeball) and the other one(who was blind folded) mistaken It as lemonade. So the other one cut the eyeball and made It lemonade. The one who made it into lemonade(or should I say, blood-ade) even drank It. I don't know. It was messed up and disturbing, But how come did I find It entertaining and funny in some way(weird)?

3 Sanjay and Craig Sanjay and Craig is an American animated comedy television series that aired on Nickelodeon from May 25, 2013, to July 29, 2016, for three seasons and 60 episodes. The series is about a 12-year-old boy named Sanjay Patel who owns a talking pet snake named Craig.

There was an episode where they stuck their tongues in each other's bellybuttons and started eating the lint and sloshed it around in their mouths.

This really should be number 1.
Scream day, going inside a digestive system, picking their noses and eating it, etc. it's all disgusting along with Breadwinners.

This show is creepy. Craig kind of looks cool, but the rest of this is so disgusting. What is American television coming to.

I can't watch this! Sanjay and Craig talk about gross stuff all the time!

4 Mr. Pickles Mr. Pickles is an American animated television series created by Will Carsola and Dave Stewart for Adult Swim. The series revolves around the Goodman family, especially their 6-year-old son named Tommy and the family's border collie, the demonic Mr. Pickles. The series was picked up for 10 quarter-hour episodes for its first season, which premiered on the network on September 21, 2014, and ended on November 23, 2014. It was renewed for a second season, which premiered on April 17, 2016, and ended on June 26, 2016.

No dip its disturbing! The most disgusting and messed up cartoon ever created! Deserves to be number one

This is not helping my already strong fear of dogs...

I saw a little bit of this and no it's messed up.

Oh! So this is where Mr. Pickles got his name!

5 King Star King King Star King is an American animated web series created by JJ Villard and Eric Kaplan for Adult Swim. The series aired on the network's online video streaming service Adult Swim Video on June 15, 2014.

Makes me want to barf!

It's REALLY disturbing, there are creepy scenes and everything is connected in a dark way. it's very hopeless, as the characters all lose their sanity / humanity. also, it's hopeless in the sense that the world can't be rebuilt, there is no afterlife, and there are mutants everywhere that will try to kill you.

I love this show, and there are some extremely disturbing things in it. One example is when the fruit witch touches the thing that turns her into an apple, and the other witches eat her. The worst part is that the apple is screaming and there are BONES in it.

I don't really think this show is that disturbing. Except that episode where everyone disappears, that was a nightmare fest. And where the witch turns into an apple and when the other witches eat it there are BONES in it. Creepy. But mostly this show is silly and funny

Most of the shows on this list are adult shows that are meant to be disturbing, Adventure Time is disturbing because it is a kids show with raunchy humor, sometimes brutal violence, and downright freaky animation.

8 South Park South Park is an American adult animated sitcom created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone for the Comedy Central television network. The show is about four boys, who are Stan Marsh, Kyle Broflovski, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick, and their adventures in South Park, Colorado.

Blood and gore and woodland creatures that give birth to the anti-christ is just plain creepy.

Sometimes American's are really bad at comedy, this for example.

Too much controversial stuff, shouldn't have even been made.

Nah it is not disturbing at all. Cthulhu did creep me out, though.

9 Salad Fingers

Yes, it can be disturbing, but I have seen way more disturbing shows. Plus, this show helped me through a rough time in my life as I was coping with my autism, mild anxiety, and also helped me get pass a bad year as 2020. Episode 11 was the spark that made me love this show, because when (spoilers!) Salad closed the box containing the shard of his verbally and emotionally abusive mother, it was a metaphor of a very good message: Ignore your abusive past and move on to a brighter future. And I followed that message. Those 14 minutes of a green lovable bean doing crazy shenanigans meant a ton to me. I can go on about how this underrated show saved me from becoming too immature. Ever since, I was coping my autism much much better, I became more mature, and it made 2020 a tiny bit better to me. I hope this show will gain more recognition and have the popularity of Marvel, Disney, MLP, and anime one day. It is possibly the most underrated show I've seen next to Courage the Cowardly ...more

My friend told me to watch this, I saw 8 episodes in one night, went to bed (with nightmares) and then watched 2 in the morning, so I talked to him about it and he told me to watch number 11. Saw it, just... why? (Still thought it was very cool and creative) HuBeRt CuMbErDaLe

I swear, if they ever make a animated movie of Salad Fingers, I am tossing the money in the cashier's face and watching it 3 times! I want LordOfTheFeathers to make a speedpaint or 2 of this! Salad Fingers is so cool!

Really weird, there's an idea that he's radioactive and it's easy to see some of it is in his head. Though he's lonely so it makes sense he has imaginary friends.

10 Rick and Morty Rick and Morty is an American adult animated science fiction sitcom created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim.

This show can be disturbing at points, but Like Courage the Cowardly Dog it's the good kind of disturbing

The Contenders

Rabbids are overused.

13 Robot Chicken Robot Chicken is an American stop motion sketch comedy television series, created and executive produced by Seth Green and Matthew Senreich along with co-head writers Douglas Goldstein and Tom Root for Adult Swim.

Which I was younger I ran into this show on the umm... toy story 4 thing... I didn't understand but when I saw buzz getting his head cut I was disturbed as hell for a couple days. P.S even my parents didn't know what the f robot chicken was.

When I was about 7-10, the intro disturbed me. I was so frightened by the scientists eyes and just his animation

Dolls that kill each other, blood and gore.

10 Reasons why this show disturbing.

How is this so low on the list?!?

15 Invader Zim Invader Zim is an American animated television series created by Jhonen Vasquez for Nickelodeon. The series centers on an extraterrestrial named Zim from the planet Irk, and his mission to conquer Earth and enslave the human race along with his malfunctioning robot servant GIR.

I love the dark humor and plot lines in this show. I mean, Zim has attempted to murder Dib at some points. That is terrifying, mainly because Dib is my favorite haha.

That one episode where he steals kids' guts scarred me for life. Bonus points for the chicken costume episode and the one with the fast food pig. So disgusting I hate it

Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy and Dark Harvest alone are what make it one of the most disturbing shows aired.

I've always loved Invader Zim I never thought it was like disturbing but its just like interesting.

16 Beavis and Butt-head Beavis and Butt-Head is an American animated sitcom created and designed by Mike Judge. The series originated from Frog Baseball, a 1992 short film by Judge originally aired on Liquid Television.

I really like the animation style and the look of the characters besides the two main, also the characters are actually seem to be like real world people and are quite well thought out, all except the two main. Yep, they are pretry disturbing.

Get this one off the list! Beavis and Butthead is funny! (You spelled beavis wrong. )

Keep it on the list, American's fail at humour.

17 Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon"

I strangely find that this show actually has some hidden beauty in it. I especially love the episode Ren Seeks Help. I've also seen and love every cartoon others deemed as "disturbing" on this list.

Episodes like Naked Beach Frenzy or Ren Seeks Help do count in deed.

I can relate to ren in ren seeks help I can get like that sometimes.

Ren Seeks help legit ruined my day when I watched it...

I just hate it what can I saw. Its stupid and it makes me feel like the younger kiddos will grow up with some mental problems.

I'm really starting to miss those cute, cuddly, And innocent cartoons from the 50's. Now that we got this pure horror to show our kids.

That episode where everyone got bit by Flapjack's rat was beyond disturbing! I had nightmares about it as a kid for a week!

The story sounds good, but the animation is pretty creepy.

A question: is it still airing or is is done?

20 Catdog CatDog is an American animated television series created by Peter Hannan for Nickelodeon. The series depicts the life of conjoined brothers, with one half being a cat and the other a dog.

Where does the cat and the dog potty at because they need butt-tucks and genitals to poop and pee with? Using their mouths are a lot gross compare to Johnny Knoxville's Jack*ss!

The nightmare episode was disturbing enough. Especially with the "the end" sign covered in blood!

That's what peter griffin described catdog. "That would be like a living hell brian! "

Watched it when I was little, but it's a weird one like most American 90s cartoons.

21 The Simpsons The Simpsons is an American animated sitcom created by Matt Groening that originally started on April 19, 1987 as shorts on The Tracey Ullman Show. It got its own series on December 17, 1989 and is still running as of 2023, making it the longest running animated sitcom. It is about a man named Homer Simpson and his family (wife Marge and children Bart, Lisa and Maggie and pets, Snowball II and Santa's Little Helper) going through a long series of misadventures.

Love The Simpsons but want disturbing, when their bodies turn inside out, the dolphin episode attacking everyone, the Professor is turned into a turkey that is eaten.

Its not. Maybe Itchy and Scratchy, some Halloween episodes.

There's this one episode where homer forgets to pick up Bart after a soccer practice and Bart is left in the rain and then when homer picks Bart up during the trip home, Bart hallucinated and homers face melted off and looked so disturbing

No they are not

22 Oggy and the Cockroaches Oggy and the Cockroaches is a French animated comedy series produced by Xilam and Gaumont Film Company.

This show is as disturbing as happy tree friends. Only no blood and veins are in it.

They had a picture of a naked lady in one episode.

23 Aqua Teen Hunger Force Aqua Teen Hunger Force is an American animated sitcom created by Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro for Cartoon Network's late night programming block, Adult Swim.

Totally disgusting. Should be number one.

24 Teen Titans Go

Ugh. This show is terrible.

I saw two episodes. It was okay. But what I heard about it, it is the WOR$T

25 The Ren & Stimpy Show The Ren & Stimpy Show, often simply referred to as Ren & Stimpy, is an American animated television series created by John Kricfalusi for Nickelodeon.

"Adult Party Cartoon" is already on the list but that and the Nicktoons version of "Ren and Stimpy" are two almost completely different things stupid.

There was a banned episode about the duo and a fat man smoking!

There were some real screwed up moments in this, like ren saying "I could kill him, with these hands, but I love him" or don't wiz on the electric fence but it's still great though
