Top 10 Reasons Why Old Cartoons Were Better Than New
Cartoons today don't measure up to cartoons of yesteryear. They had Bugs Bunny, The Smurfs, Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo (minus Scrappy-Doo), Felix the Cat, Popeye, Mighty Mouse, and you get the picture. While some old cartoon characters are featured in newer versions of their cartoons, it's not quite the same.
In my opinion, I like characters like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Felix the Cat, Popeye, Mighty Mouse, and others. Compare that to franchises like Gravity Falls, where the only character from that show I remember is Bill.
Before, cartoons were actually funny. Today, we have cartoons just trying to sound cool to children instead of making them laugh or smile. Of course, there are some cartoons that I still like, like Adventure Time and others, but the vast majority of them should never have made it to the screen.
The cartoons nowadays have a more confusing and strange kind of humor. Tom and Jerry had true humor that wasn't weird or gross, and I truly appreciate the few cartoons that actually have good humor.
Cartoons today are just filled with gross-out and toilet humor, which makes me appreciate the good old days.
I remember watching shows that transported me to a new world where I could join lovable characters on the adventure of a lifetime. The reason I was transported to another world was because the animation was so creative, in-depth, and vivid that I truly felt as if I was there.
BraveStarr, for instance, was so beautifully animated that I felt as if I was a member of the gang. Some aspects might have been cheesy, but the animation sold me. Another was Rupert the Bear, which made its surroundings so lush, beautiful, quaint, and full of life. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was another one that made me feel like I was there in the sewers - a fellow pizza-eating, weapon-wielding turtle.
Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, DuckTales, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and so many other great cartoons. Now, they don't show most of them anymore.
Actually, Ren & Stimpy and its vastly underrated contemporary Rocko's Modern Life were both incredibly over the top, although usually not in a bad way.
Nowadays, the good shows are full of doubt, while the bad shows receive positive attention.
I never understood why people said SpongeBob was overrated or one of the worst shows ever because of a lack of good episodes. The same goes for The Simpsons. They just both lost their glory days of good episodes.
That doesn't mean they were bad shows to start off with, and it doesn't mean they are overrated.
Some longer-running series like The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy all had their best episodes earlier on, but over the years they've completely run out of good ideas.
Back in the day, SpongeBob was great, but somewhere down the road, the show completely fell apart.
When they got rid of the Noods in 2009 with the live-action launch, they destroyed their channel.
I wish Nickelodeon made proper new cartoons because they just can't get a new cartoon right.
Agreed, but they are still better, except for The Loud House, Winx, and Regal Academy.
The old animation style was infinitely better than this computer-made thing. Nearly all of my childhood movies and cartoons were hand-drawn, and it's very sad that it is not used as much anymore. It felt like it gave soul to the story and the characters.
They were never too dumb, but now they aren't what they used to be. If I were to create or help cartoons grow, then I'd do it for the future of animation!
They indeed took more creative liberties.
The new ones are all boring. People have just run out of ideas.
There is no real moral lesson in the new shows. Unlike the old shows like Tom & Jerry and Looney Tunes (they really screwed that one up), the old shows always had some form of lesson for the kids. A good example is the old Disney characters such as Donald Duck.
Now, it's really just meant for wholesome entertainment that, to me, makes no real sense.
Yeah, because television for under-5s should always be about learning, not comedy.
