At the start, it's O.M.G. He might live, and then it's NOOO! He was such a lovable character, always talking about his family. Alongside the more serious Colonel, he was SO FUNNY! His daughter crying at the funeral, saying that no one can bury him, made his death so much sadder. After that, Ed and Al not knowing about his death and saying they would thank him was devastating. His death was meant to make you cry - there was a reason he was so lovable. This also helped the audience connect to the Colonel since Ed wasn't helping and led to Hughes' death.
I don't watch this anime, but I saw this scene and it was really sad. Elicia was saying that he didn't finish his work and that he needs to finish it, and she didn't know what was really happening.
That was the saddest thing about it. But just the fact that this character died is sad, because I have seen scenes of this character and he was great.

Greed
I'll admit, Greed wasn't my favorite character, but he wasn't my least favorite either. What really got me to cry was that right before he died, he realized he had everything he wanted in life. The irony that Greed was satisfied with the things he had right as he died is what got me to bawl my eyes out. Greed's death was by far one of the saddest deaths, and no one can tell me otherwise.
His death was so sad, and yet I laughed because of his personality and how the whole thing just kind of happened. But his death was definitely super sad.

Van Hohenheim
His smiling death, the ending song, and the special credits showing flashbacks of his life afterward... The brief scene of him reaching out to Trisha's hand... Learning about his life and realizing he was just a poor guy who wanted to live and die with his family. He had to learn to live with the souls of his nation, talk with them, and try to keep his sanity for years. How could you blame him for leaving his family? He sure is the deepest character.
So sad when Pinako said he died with a smile on his face. I tore up the skin on my hand just so I wouldn't cry. (My family makes fun of me for crying in movies.) It's him, Nina, Greed, or Hughes that was the saddest.

I don't know why people get so mad at Scar. Think about the life she would have to live if she were still alive as a Chimera. She would be tortured so badly. I get it - her death was sad, but please don't get mad at Scar. He's too awesome of a character.
This is so sad. She was so nice, but she ended up like that. She was only 4 years old. Why, Nina, why?!
I was really sad about this one. I had a friend cry over it.

Envy
SPOILER ALERT! You have been warned.
Envy's death was by far the saddest one. His ultimate form is a giant lizard with multiple humans sticking out of it. In my opinion, this was his way of trying to get that human bond he envied.
He caused so much grief among the people by killing the little girl that sparked the Ishvalan War, which led to Scar's hatred towards the State Alchemists. This, in turn, caused State Alchemists to question their own morals. He killed Maes and told Mustang in an attempt to destroy Mustang's humanity.
He caused so much discontent within the group of our heroes that seeing them put aside their differences to fight a common enemy humiliated him. "How could these lowly creatures look down on me, ON ME?! When I easily tower over them!"
Then, finally realizing that he himself was weak, that he was the pathetic creature, he cried at the realization, and everyone did nothing but look down on him.
The ultimate blow was him not being killed by humans. To be pitied by humans drove him to end his own life.
This is not sad in the way Hughes being killed or Greed sacrificing his life for his friends was. This is sad because we felt sorry for Envy as he would never truly know what it feels like to be human.

Fu
Even worse was Greed/Ling's reaction. BOTH OF THEM cried out for Fu when he jumped at King Bradley, and even though Ling was practically a god, he couldn't do anything to save his lifelong bodyguard but cry out for someone to help him.

Trisha Elric

Captain Buccaneer
Such a shame he had to die, but what a way to go out!
-
Barry the Chopper
His personality was very likable for a murderer. He was so funny. I was laughing so hard until he died. Then I was crying.
He was the sweetest character I'd ever seen. I was devastated when he died.
He was such a funny character, but his real body was a stupid thing.

Martel
Her death was so sad. It had me nearly crying. I'm going to kill King Bradley in his sleep.
Her death was terrifying! Imagine being Al in that scenario!
Her death was so sad! King Bradley is such a jerk.

Gluttony
Gluttony wasn't my favorite character, but he was very cute when he got hurt - like when Lan Fan and Ling started beating him up, and he's crying out loud because he's getting hurt. His actual death, though, set me off my rocker when he begged for Lust, his mother figure, to come help him when he was being eaten by Pride.
-
Bido
He died thinking he found his friend. He was treated like dirt for being a Chimera, and Greed was the only one to give him a chance. He found the new Greed, only to be killed by him. Those last words, "But Mr. Greed, I'm your friend," always get to me.
Why am I so sad over Bido's death?

His death in FMAB made me tear up. I really didn't expect him to be so sentimental in his last moments. He was a rather tragic character if you think about it.
