Zeref is without a doubt the strongest character in Fairy Tail. I think he is even stronger than Acnologia, who was able to destroy an entire country single-handedly, since he was the one who turned Acnologia into a dragon. His combination of Living Magic and Death Arts is incredible. He could just kill anybody in an instant with his Death Arts.
So far, we have only seen three of his spells: Death Wave, Death Orb, and Death Pillar, and I'm assuming there are far more powerful spells. Also, with his Living Magic, he could create demons. A few strong ones are E.N.D, whom Igneel was unable to defeat, Silver, who froze the entire Sun Village, and Atlas Flame and Jackal, who blew up the entire Magic Council.
Zeref shouldn't be at the bottom of the list. In my opinion, he is the overpowered character of Fairy Tail, much like Naruto's Madara.
Acnologia

Acnologia deserves at least third place, as he destroyed Gildarts, who is currently ranked third. His breath attack was vast enough to demolish Tenrou Island when he was toying with Fairy Tail, and Mavis Vermillion had to intervene to stop him. He destroyed a nation and intimidated the magic council.
Even Zeref stated that Acnologia possessed sufficient power to destroy the world and bring about a new era. However, he is not as powerful as Mavis, who could use Fairy Sphere to deflect his attacks and then implement Fairy Glitter to smite him. Nor is he as powerful as Zeref, who could overrun him with hordes of demons. If Acnologia managed to survive, Zeref could kill him with a flick of his wrist before a breath attack was possible.
Zeref appears to be immortal, and Mavis seems to be able to come back from the dead at will, dwarfing Acnologia in power, but still, he is formidable.
Mavis Vermillion

This is nonsense. Mavis is merely a tactician, though most of her calculations ended in no significant profit that could contribute much to the winning of the guild. We'll consider she is really good in one way or another. Her renowned Fairy spells: Fairy Glitter, Fairy Sphere, and Fairy Heart are, on the other hand, great pieces of work.
But what we've seen so far is Fairy Glitter earning them a point in the Grand Magic Games, and Fairy Sphere barely saved the fairies from a mere roar of Acnologia - a mere roar! That, too, comes with the price of a lost seven years.
In conclusion, Mavis is awesome and one of the smartest characters. But if we're talking about strength, that's a whole different story.
Natsu Dragneel

He is adept with his Dragon Slayer Magic and makes use of it in many different ways in combat. As with all Dragon Slayers, he can consume his respective element, with the exception of that which he has created, to replenish his energy reserves. The heat of his fire can increase in temperature, which is proportional to Natsu's emotional state.
Natsu subconsciously used this against Erigor. His flame's heat significantly rose as he became more enraged. This is also called the Flame of Emotion. He incorporates the flames he ignites into his fighting style, greatly increasing the damage of his blows. As such, Natsu's magic revolves around the usage of fire that can spout from any part of his body.
Gildarts Clive

Crash, Gildarts' signature magic, Crash is an extremely powerful Caster Type Magic that smashes everything the user comes into contact with into pieces. It can even be used to crack magic into pieces, nullifying its effects, as well as to reduce the magic's power and deflect it. Even the most powerful spells are rendered useless when faced with this destructive and highly advanced magic, which is seemingly difficult to control even for an extremely powerful individual like Gildarts.

Gildarts is the strongest wizard of Fairy Tail. The fact that he didn't show up during the battle with Tartaros means that he is reserved for something much better. Like Shanks, his true potential is still unknown.
He has been shown to be inferior to Acnologia, but he is stronger than Mard Geer (defeated by Dragon Force Natsu and Gray), Hades (defeated by Lightning Flame Dragon Mode Natsu), Makarov, and many other strong characters. As of now, he is clearly inferior to only four characters: END, Zeref, Acnologia, and Mavis. He made Natsu give up just by powering up. Gildarts is reserved for something special, probably a future fight with one of the big three: END, Zeref, or Acnologia. Really looking forward to his grand return.
Laxus Dreyar

Many say that Natsu is the strongest, but he isn't. Laxus is stronger because he uses his own power, and unlike him, Natsu only uses others' power. He even uses Laxus' power. At the Cathedral, Laxus only lost because his heart wasn't in it. He never intended to kill anyone.
When Laxus was poisoned, he still defeated enemies that Natsu couldn't. Natsu only won against Acnologia because he borrowed all the Dragon Slayers' power, and the author had to make the main character win. If he didn't, Laxus would win.
I don't say that Laxus is stronger than Gildartz, but I just want to confirm to those who think that Natsu is stronger. I just want to clarify that he isn't and that you have to analyze Fairy Tail better.
P.S. You have to admit that Laxus is badass.
Jellal Fernandes

Jellal Fernandes is a childhood friend of Erza Scarlet. After losing his memory, he became a Dark Mage determined to resurrect Zeref using the R-System. He was the primary antagonist of the Tower of Heaven arc and later became a co-founder and member of the independent guild Crime Sorcière.

To be honest, I believe that Jellal is indeed one of the most powerful mages in Fairy Tail, both as an antagonist and a supporting character. Not that I have anything against Natsu, but he should not be in 2nd place. It should be Mavis followed by Precht or other powerful mages.
Jellal is a powerful and great antagonist. He was a member of the Ten Wizard Saints and might still be if he had not been deemed a criminal. Remember, Jellal was the only antagonist in the anime who killed a somewhat important character in his arc. He killed Simon in one shot.
If this does not explain anything and you are still convinced that Natsu or Gray is greater than him, then I'm afraid that you are being biased towards them. Yes, Natsu defeated him, but it was only because of a power-up, a booster. If they were to fight seriously without boosters, then Jellal would beat him.
I also believe that he and Laxus are on par in strength and magic.

Considering Erza's dream at the Tower of Heaven, I would say that Erza should be considered a very powerful wizard. That dream was more like a vision of what would have become if Erza had lost her life in that episode. So, if that dream really was a vision of what might have been, then Erza is at the level of the Ten Saint Wizards, proving her to be worthy of the name Titania.
I believe that Erza is stronger than Natsu, but when she said that Natsu would surpass her, I believe that if Natsu had proper motivation, he could possibly overpower her. Though, at his present state, he could easily be overpowered by Erza because of the fact he does well in the category of strength but lacks in the category of intelligence.
Makarov Dreyar

The first should be Zeref, the second should be Mavis, the third should be Acnologia, and the fourth should be either Precht or Makarov. The reason why I can't decide which one should be fourth is that when Makarov and Precht fought, the only thing that kept Makarov from destroying all of Grimoire Heart in one move was Precht also having an end-all-be-all move. At the moment, I'd say Makarov should be number 4 and Precht should be number 5.
At number 6 should be Gildarts, number 7 Jellal, number 8 Laxus, number 9 Erza (you could switch those two around easily because Erza has armor that counteracts Laxus's lightning armor), and at number 10 should be Mirajane (although she could also take Erza's or Laxus's spot. It's another Precht vs Makarov situation).
Keep in mind that there is a 99% chance that Natsu, Gray, Gajeel, Wendy, and Lucy will probably surpass most of the people on this list, but as of right now, they aren't as strong as these other people.
Hades

Hades easily overpowered Makarov, Fairy Tail's strongest team, and Laxus. He wields insanely powerful lost magic and is the leader of the most powerful dark guild in Fiore. He is clearly stronger than Erza, Laxus, and Natsu, as the only reason he was defeated was that his source of power was destroyed and Fairy Tail's source of power returned.

Alright, then here is what a lot of people forget about Hades. One is that he had unlimited magic power when he had his heart. Two, if it wasn't for his heart being destroyed, then he would have defeated Fairy Tail. And three, it took all of Fairy Tail's main cast to defeat him.

Suz but she is stronger than any contenders on the list, she's just new but she can summon the Universe One (if you only read the manga) which is also known as World Reconstruction Magic which allows you to alter and remake the landscape. basically she can teleport anything anywhere across the globe. Just read the manga and you'll understand!

Irene is the strongest woman in the 12, along with the strongest male member, August. She should be ranked higher. She stood up against Acnologia, and that's an incredible feat!

Mirajane Strauss

As said before, Mirajane is an extremely powerful mage who hasn't shown the full extent of her abilities. On top of that, we have Macro, a curse which can control other entities, living or dead, by ordering them around. Another factor in my vote is that she hasn't been seen going all out in a fight because, as she said, she can't fight to the fullest when other people are around.
Without a doubt, I find her to be more powerful than Erza, who has received more screen time and character development, as well as more feats to back up her plot armor. We really haven't seen much from Mira yet, but that is just because she hasn't had enough character development or feats, even though she could easily surpass Erza in terms of power and - don't mind me saying - intelligence.
Mira is an amazing character with so much talent, having had a difficult life and traumatic experiences. She is constantly underrated but has so much potential and power at her disposal. She's undoubtedly one of the most incredible and powerful (as well as beautiful) characters in the Fairy Tail universe, and I hope we'll get to see more from her. These previous reasons are why I give my vote to the white-haired "Demon Queen," Mirajane Strauss!

He was included in the Top 10 because he is now an Ice Devil Slayer. As a result, he is a match for Natsu Dragneel. He eats ice too! He also defeated Rufus with ease.
Before he acquired his Ice Devil Slayer Magic, we already knew that he was a master of Ice-Make Magic. So, I thought he was just some normal mage, but now he possesses the Ice Devil Slayer Magic, which Silver gave him. From what I understand, it's one of the rarest magics in Fairy Tail, and its ice doesn't melt easily.

After recent episodes in the Tartaros Arc, we see that Gray acquires a type of magic called Devil Slayer Magic. We haven't seen him in action yet, but when he froze all the anti-magic particles around Gajeel, Natsu, Laxus, Lucy, and Juvia, it says everything. "I am now a badass, back TF up." Gajeel's face alone is enough to realize that Gray should be in the top ten after becoming the Ice Devil Slayer.
We also see in the latest intro that Natsu and Gray will be fighting together to defeat Mard Geer. If he is on par with Natsu now, why is there a gap of almost 10 ranks between the two? He is definitely stronger than Erza right now. I am not trying to be a hater, but I think the people voting for Natsu are basing it more on his role in the anime and manga than on his actual skill as a Dragon Slayer.
Examples include ranking him above Acnologia. What?! He is a regular or advanced Dragon Slayer at best, and he is ranked above a Dragon Slayer that killed so many dragons he became one? Show some respect for the skill of the characters and don't just make this a contest of who your favorite character is.
All in all, Gray needs to be ranked higher, while some people (cough cough NATSU cough cough) need to be ranked lower.
Igneel

I think Igneel should be much higher on this list. First of all, he is Natsu's father. If Natsu is already fourth, then Igneel should be third or something.
Secondly, he is a dragon, and dragons are very powerful - what more do you want? Although Acnologia half-killed him, it is possible that Igneel was taken off guard and was unprepared. If Igneel had not held back and attacked Acnologia when he was off guard, Igneel could have killed Acnologia.

Igneel is the king of fire dragons. He is below Mira on this list when I made this post. Why? Igneel even ripped off Acnologia's arm, for goodness' sake, but Igneel did lose. That's because he was half-dead. For someone who didn't have a soul, that's a pretty fine accomplishment. Makarov's arm got burned by Atlas Flame, who claimed to have been beaten by Igneel many times. Even Erza is higher on this list. Igneel is one of the most kind and powerful dragons that has ever been in the anime.
Gajeel Redfox

Like Natsu, Gajeel was taught by a dragon to manipulate a particular element into his fighting style: in Gajeel's case, the dragon Metalicana taught him how to use Iron Dragon Slayer Magic. However, as the name implies, his Dragon Slayer Magic deals with iron instead of fire.
Just as Natsu eats fire to regain his strength, Gajeel can eat iron to regain his own. His teeth and jaw muscles are apparently powerful enough to gnaw through solid metal with ease, and he can devour even the magic-canceling metal of the Dorma Anim. Gajeel's magic deals with producing multi-sized iron rods as well as changing parts of his body into steel.
Jura Neekis

I can't believe how people think Jura Neekis should at least be in the top 10 just because he's one of the "Ten Wizard Saints." Oh, come on. Jura said himself that he's the weakest of the ten Wizard Saints. And Laxus, the S-Class Wizard, beat Jura, one of the "Ten Wizard Saints." My my... and people think he deserves to be in the top 10 because he's one of the Ten Wizard Saints.

Even if Gray is now an Ice Devil Slayer, Jura's abilities are much more superior than Gray's. Jura is one of the most powerful wizards in the anime. Not the most powerful, but he deserves at least to be in the top tens.
Mystogan

Mystogan is the Edolas counterpart of Jellal. Not to mention, he made it to S-Class in Fairy Tail using only magic staves, since he didn't have full-body magic like the rest. He easily took on Laxus and could have won that fight, especially since he was stronger than Natsu, and Natsu beat Laxus. So if anything, he should be where Laxus is on the list.
I understand that he isn't a wizard anymore, but when he was, he was one of the strongest. He isn't Jellal either, but at the same time, he is. He is extremely powerful and has mastered multiple, extremely powerful magics as well.

Mystogan is very powerful, definitely stronger than Gray. He's one of the strongest in Fairy Tail (S-Class) and has some very effective magical attacks. He took down all the sub-divisions of Phantom Lord in a short time.
He was on par with Laxus for a while before Erza and Natsu showed up, and Laxus blasted his mask off, forcing him to flee. But he was still on par with Laxus. If Laxus is high up on this list, so should Mystogan be. He should be higher on this list.
Ultear Milkovich

Many forget about her. I personally believe she is the third strongest, behind Mavis and Zeref. Her power is immense. As a child, she had so much magic power that she became ill because of it.
But rather than removing the overflowing magic power as her mother opted to do, researchers enhanced her magic at a very young age, which made her even stronger. She could probably take on Natsu or anyone else if she had grown. Moreover, she has many versatile abilities.
Aside from her mother's Ice-Make magic, who was considered as strong as a Wizard Saint, she has countless other magics - namely, Time Magic. She was taught this magic by Hades, who probably believed she would be the only one able to utilize it. She was the sole reason everyone was able to beat the dragons.
Mard Geer Tartaros

Mard Geer needs to be ranked higher. Gajeel and Mirajane would be defeated easily, and I don't know how Mystogan would fare against him. I mean, the demon went head-to-head with the Celestial Spirit King! Even with the Ice Devil Slayer powers from Silver, he still defeated Gray. He should be ranked higher.

He was the strongest demon besides END, so that would put him above Erza, for fact. Even with her new powers, dragon-wise, Mard is stronger. Maybe weaker than a full-powered Laxus and Gildarts, so I would say he is 5th.

I'm assuming the low rank is a result of him not appearing in the anime yet. Nevertheless, August is by far one of the strongest mages in the entire series. Personally, I'd rank him fourth (probably), but he still might stand a chance against the top 3 in a battle.

He almost destroyed all of Fiore. He would have if he hadn't seen his mother and stopped.

Why is he ranked under Ultear? He's like one of the strongest wizards ever.
God Serena

How is he 20th? He's the strongest of the Four Gods of Ishgar and the Ten Wizard Saints. Lamia Scale's master said that the Four Gods of Ishgar (top four members of the Ten Wizard Saints) were hardly even human. They were that strong. Anyway, Zeref wouldn't have made him one of the Spriggan 12 if he was really weaker than some of the people he's ranked under.
He's certainly on a whole other level compared to Jura, who is the 5th most powerful of the Ten Wizard Saints. We'll see more of his power, and I'm very excited for when they animate him using his powers, as I believe he'll be a very interesting character!

It's a shame to only see such a small glimpse of a really great character. We haven't seen much of him. Probably, just probably, Hiro's biggest mistake was only showing a small appearance of him in such an incredible series.
Juvia Lockser

Juvia is an extremely skilled user of Water Magic. This ability allows her to produce, control, and manipulate water. She can use water in a variety of ways, such as creating blades of water that can slice through solid rock and metal, forming waves of tremendous power and force to damage her opponents, or even trapping opponents in mini-prisons made of water.
Juvia also has the ability to transform into water, allowing both physical and magical attacks to pass through her without causing harm.

Why is Juvia so underestimated? The only reason people don't think she deserves to be higher is because there are barely any one-on-one fights of hers.
The only one-on-one fights I recall are her battles with Meredy, an opponent even Erza herself was unable to defeat, and the fight with the celestial spirit, Aries. She incredibly defeated both of them in Juvia-style, of course, and fought well. In my opinion, she could be higher than Gray if it weren't for the Gray-sama thing.
Kagura Mikazuchi

Actually, when some other wizards from other guilds obtain their second Origin, they can totally defeat Fairy Tail. But I'm not saying that Fairy Tail is weak. There are some mages from other guilds that can beat them, like Kagura. Remember, she can control gravity and is much stronger than Libra.
As far as the story goes, Kagura Mikazuchi is the strongest swordswoman. She can fight without using magic but with her fighting skills.
For me, she must belong in the top 15 strongest mages.

Kagura's fighting style is all about the use of her sword. She can match Erza evenly in a sword fight and can even destroy Erza's adamantine armor (which was able to defend against Jupiter, although it got destroyed in the process) all while her sword is still sheathed. When she unsheathes her sword, she is able to destroy lines of large buildings in Magnolia with just one swing.
Who knows how much her power increases when her sword is unsheathed? Erza and Kagura are not very far apart in terms of skill and power. But I would say Erza is only 3-5% stronger than Kagura, as Kagura was able to beat the crap out of Erza in just 2 minutes, without damage, and while her sword was still sheathed, which was never before seen. And with her gravity magic even stronger than Libra, a golden celestial spirit, she is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful mages in the Fairy Tail series.
E.N.D.

Mard Geer asked himself if Acnologia was afraid of E.N.D. Igneel later confirmed that Acnologia was indeed afraid of E.N.D. This implies E.N.D. is equal to or greater than Acnologia in terms of power. And E.N.D. is Zeref's final masterpiece. The strongest Etherious, which was created by Zeref for the sole purpose of killing Zeref himself. It's obvious that Natsu has some sort of connection with E.N.D. That's all we know now. But from the hype given to it, it's obvious that E.N.D. is one of the three strongest characters of Fairy Tail, along with Zeref and Acnologia.

I'm officially done with this list. E.N.D. is the strongest demon Zeref has ever created, with the power to bring even him down. Hell, even Acnologia fears E.N.D.! The whole point of E.N.D. was to help bring down Acnologia after killing Zeref. So a demon with the ability to kill both Zeref and possibly even Acnologia is #23? This list is obviously not made by facts. If it was, he'd be #3 after Acnologia and Igneel.
Ur

Ur, you are my hero. You inspire me every day with your sacrifice. I also thought it was pretty funny when... well, I will give you a hint: "Gray, your clothes!" That never gets old. Ur, if you could see this, you would smile. I know it.
You were a great teacher, ice and all. My dad said that ice was weak. All I could think of is if ice is so weak, how could Ur defeat Deliora with the spell... well, I'm not even going to say it. Don't you forget that what shaped a lot of the Fairy Tail guild is you. The fans of Fairy Tail will understand this, and I hope that Gray and Leon will too.

Ultear's mother and the woman who taught Gray and Lyon all of their magic, Ur was immensely powerful. Some even saw her as being capable of becoming one of the Ten Wizard Saints.
Ur had many powerful Ice-Make spells, which she passed down to Ultear. As a last resort, she could even use the Iced Shell.
Ankhseram

Ankhseram, where do I begin? First, he is an omnipotent god. He gave Zeref the contradictory curse, which made Zeref immortal and gave him sway over life and death, because Zeref pissed him off, and he wanted to piss off the world. He did that to Mavis 300 years later. He is the god of life and death, and as such, his power encompasses all living and dead things. Basically, he should be number one because he can't die, he can give people immortality and magic, and he is omnipotent. Most likely, he is the one original magic.

I'm starting to think you don't read the manga. First, E.N.D. is #23, and now Ankhseram is #30! He is a GOD who could wipe out any and every character, including Acnologia. He should HANDS DOWN be number one. Putting him down here below people like Wendy is an insult!
