Best European Countries to Live In
Some territory was lost after World War 1 and a lot more after World War 2, basically started by Hitler's Nazi dictatorship. Then the Soviets kept their zone... read more
Germany is best place to live in, but if they would have won WW2, it would even be better there, cause now they have the problem, that a lot of people from the third-world came to Germany for living. This can be a big problem seen in the long run, because what, for example, muslim people will do when they came in the majority in a country, the history has told us more than often in last centuries. So in this point, Germany should soon change their politics to remain the good country, the great economy and the high level of education, which the indigenous german population has since a long time now. Then it will stay one of the best countries for living in the world.
I really love Germany and I do wish I can have an apportunity to live there...I just do many researches of Germany and whenever I find all of the sudden a beautiful picture of one of Germany's historical castles, I get even more interested to search for more of Germany. Such a phenomenal country with a powerful military and democracy, interesting history, beautiful-portrating landscapes, wonderful castles and fantastical architectural buildings...I'm really excited to immigrate there...! Such a land of freedom and liberty..Go Germany, go!

+ French and British overseas territories spread throughout the world. Thus, France is one of the two countries with the most favorable geographic location.
Living and visiting a country are two very different things. If one does their research...you will see France is known to be one of the most difficult countries to relocate to. I lived in China and found it a lot easier than France. Be prepared for a lot of paperwork, administrative delays and complications. Little things that we take for granted tend to be difficult in France. For some reason Paris and France have a great reputation for a place to be but the reality is very different.
We are now living in South-West part of France, it's just wonderful, everything here is art, and the life style is so cool. Food is extraordinary, excellent, many splendid villages, castles. Atlantic coast, landscape and people are on top. Healthcare is one of the best, you call the doctor which come home soon after and paying such a small fee, amazing country. Vive la France!
You are debating living in France or Germany? Both are great countries to live, they are so different but the best friends, try to live in both of them. France for the food, charm, wine, 'savoir vivre', Mediterranean coast, Atlantic one, Brittany etc... Germany for economy, Berlin (I like the underground life). I like both of them. And I love French Polynesia, New Caledonia with this fabulous coral reef (2nd in the world) and so. I like Germany because I'm working there.
A very nice place. Switzerland is an amazing country! They are extremely peaceful and is very environmentally beautiful. They haven't been at war for 200 years besides World War I and World War II. Also lots of cheese.
High local purchasing power index, high opportunities, cheap universities, clean nation, great and diverse economy plus it"s among the safest... what would be better than this?
Most peaceful, beautiful, and homely country on the face of the earth. Great people, great views, and great chocolate.
Switzerland welcomes you, but better avoid the South part which is the less nice to live in, all the rest is so fine.
There are plenty of reasons why Norway is one of the best countries in the world to live in. Norway is one of the richest countries in the world so it means it has a very stable economy. Norway is also one of the safest and most peaceful countries in the world; Oslo is one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world. The cities and the countryside of Norway are very clean and they offer scenic views for everyone especially the fjords and the Northern Lights. Norwegians are also highly educated people which makes sense since Norway has some of the best education in the world. Norwegian foods are very tasty and mouthwatering. Of course, the cold weather also makes Norway a pretty country. Without a doubt, Norway is truly one of the best countries in the world.
Now I am living in Italy but I am thinking to move to Sweden because of its education and beauty. Italy is a beautiful country, too but its education isn't as high as that of Sweden. I really don't want to leave Italy but whenever I think about my future, my mind starts to say that I should move to Sweden. the education in Italy is good too but I cannot find a job very easily here and the whole education is in Italian and I am very good in english and I want to learn the things in english. The best reason to move to Sweden is its education and we can find any job easier here. the population isn't high. People speak english and the lifestyle is better here.
Beautiful country, great standard of living. Worked there for one summer, found the people to be extremely friendly, open minded, and tolerant. The whole country is kept very clean and tidy, you'll hardly ever see graffiti or litter. The Swedes are hard working but have a great balance between work and leisure, with a very sizeable part of the population playing sports on a regular basis, they are generally very health conscious. There is also a lot of space around nine million people in a country nearly three times the size of the UK which has nearly sixty five million tells you all you need to know.
I am Swedish and I realize that I'm lucky. Growing up in the 70's we had a socialist democratic government which provided excellent free health care, great school system, T.V. that focused on quality and so on and so forth. After school we went to "leisure clubs" where there was free pony riding, trips to museums and surfing, like ALL FREE! So anyone who hates socialism... Yes Sweden was socialist and it was pretty damned good.
Yeah we yearned for Disney cartoons (they were broadcasted like twice a year), we had wet dreams about hamburgers... If you were really lucky you could get a hold of a pair of REAL Levi's jeans, instead of the corny Swedish brand...
But you know, my childhood was FINE. It was equal. And now that has changed. Ok it's still fairly equal in a global perspective but the gaps between the classes have broadened and that once so fine and stable social security system is falling apart, slowly. Private health insurances, income differences... A failed ...more
I recently visited Gothenburg for a week and I must say the Swedish are the nicest and smartest Europeans I've seen. As someone living in Dublin with a high alcohol fuelled anti social behaviour I found Sweden peaceful. The people are willing to listen to a stranger unlike in Ireland and England. The Swedish people are tidy, health and environmental conscious. They are modest too. I LOVE Sweden.
Fantastic country, diverse beautiful regions offering mountains, countryside, beaches, historical cities, towns and villages. Green and scenic north, sunny south, fantastic gastronomy in all regions, best ham and olive oil in the world as well as great wines, cheeses etc... Welcoming people, family focused, great for kids, best cultural events in Europe (if not in the world), fashion, great bars, restaurants etc...the Spaniards know how to live the present and live life far better than any other European country. Viva España!
Of course Denmark is one of the best countries in the world. It's one of the most prosperous countries in the world and Denmark is also really safe and peaceful. A truly gorgeous country.
It's beautiful everywhere in Denmark, from the urban areas to the rural areas. Copenhagen is considered one of the most peaceful capital cities in the world
Denmark is often considered one of the happiest and safest countries in the world. This means that Denmark is a great country to live in. Denmark is also a highly developed country which means it has one of the best standards of living in the world. There are many places in Denmark that people should visit. The foods served in Denmark are really delicious and the weather is beautiful as well.
Iceland should be on the top of this list, I'm not being offensive or racist to Germans but Iceland is the safest country in the world and its even wealthier.
I would like to live in Iceland but I think that Iceland is not on top because of their cold weather every single day!
But Iceland has a low population and it's a quiet place. But in Germany you can't deal with how many people live in there, especially Berlin.
Amazing country and people in every way. It would be a dream to live there. The climate is perfect and those icelandic horses are like an image from a fairy tale.
Cleanest country in the world, almost NO crime rate, nice people, awesome places to visit! come on Put it bigger on the list
You should've moved Iceland higher it's the Safest country in the world!
Clean air, clean food, healthy lifestyle and a lot of 'common sense'. Amazing design talent especially in architecture and product design. Finns have a unique sense of humor. I am Finnish but not living in Finland at the moment. I really miss all the four seasons and swimming in clean waters. Only downside I can think of is how racist some people can be, even when I lived there got some racist comments towards myself despite being 100% white Finnish but with a little bit different looks. This I think is down to people still getting used to different lifestyles and nationalities. Would love to move back though..
I am a foreigner who lives in Finland and my wife is Finnish. Yes there are some stupid rasict people here but There are many many more good and educated people. I think Finland is best place to live in Europe.
Best education system on the planet. Need I say more?
If I do: Extremely advanced economy
Very little inequality
Men & women are almost completely equal.
The most underrated country in Europe. Beautiful architecture, art, greaaat beer en food, cool underground parties, best festivals like Tomorrowland, cool cities like Ghent and Antwerp. A hidden gem!
To bad for the weather though...
Belgians people are really ipen mind ans friendly. Mostly during spring and summer months when everybody is going out.
Almost everyone speaks English... mostly in the flamish area.
Lost of beautiful place or monuments: castles in every village. Pretty clean overall!
Excellent food!
Beeing the center of Europe, it is easy to travel everywhere. ( 1 hour by train to Paris, 1 hour by train to London, 2 hours by car to Amsterdam...,
I recommend cities like Bruges, gent, Namur and its country side, Brussels
Belgium small but amazing! Such a beautiful architecture in Brussels, food, and I love their football team they derserved to win! People are really kind and funny
The best chocolate and health care in the world.
I always wanted to visit all over Europe to explore my European Heritage, especially my British History(English, Scottish and Irish to be exact), and I always wanted to see Great Britain up in person. I just hope that they're fine with an American walking on their land.
The UK is a great country, England is nice and so is Scotland and Wales. And don't forget Northern Ireland too. Very nice beaches and landmarks. Also I am a democratic socalist and its very popular here. We respect everyone unlike America or Russia. The bad things are Brexit and Northern Ireland has legalised Gay Marriage.
I was born British and hope to die British. It's a pity that I'm now told I'm English when I would rather be British. I love the whole of my country not just England.
I'm Canadian and every time I go to this beautiful country I am so impressed at the history and beauty of all sorts of cities from London to Liverpool, Cardiff to Caerphilly.
As Slavs, Poles as are very hospitable by nature, peace-loving, hard-working people with ambitions to have one of the best economies in Europe. Poles represent strong family values and traditional values.
Poland has a big competitive advantage because it s centrally-located in the heart Europe between west and east or north and south. Poland has a rapidly growing country with opportunities for business, jobs, and first all safe life. Poland is also very democratic country where political parties can have an honest debates about all kind of controversial issues including "refugee crisis". Poland has also beautiful nature: Baltic Sea, Tatra Mountains, and 30% of Polish land are forests. For all those reasons described above, I vote for Poland.
England can trace its history as far back as the 10th century, but modern England didn't start till the Norman Invasion of 1066. In 1535, England annexed Wales and in 1603 shared a Monarch with Scotland, which eventually led to the Unification of the two into 'Great Britain', in 1801 Ireland was incorporated forming the 'United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland', in 1922, 6 counties stayed in the UK while the rest of Ireland declared Independence. ...read more.
Quite a tidy country, moderate weather, beautiful countryside, strong economy and strong military.
Also in England you are entitled to free medical care (including free GP visits) and also schooling for up to 18s is completely free. England has Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College and UCL which are world renowned universities.
London is a city of opportunities, with paths for almost any career. London is filled with rich history and beautiful monuments. London is a massive city, but travel is efficient and very cheap thanks to the London Underground.
We have a low crime rate too.
I feel that England is a country where it is truly comfortable to live. England is tidy and well maintained, but above all, a country with a future.
What an amazing place. I am half Welsh and half British and I lived in London for the first 11 years of my life. I loved it to bits. Personally, I love the seasons, with the winter and summer. Most houses are cozy. The country is only trying to improve. Although there are two downsides, the amount of crime that goes on is really bad. There is currently a Killer Clowns craze spreading around the globe. Mainly in the US And Europe though. Also, they're opening schools for French, Spanish, Indian etc. Which as it is Britian, they should leave rooms for British children, otherwise schools are getting full for British children. ~Talia.
Seeing my country listed here made me think about it for a moment, and what being a Brit meant to me. It's only then that I realised just how lucky I am to live in the greatest country in the world.
Steeped in history, and the mother of the modern world. Spreading enterprise and knowledge around the world, and taking civilisation to every corner of the globe. The birth place of engineering and one of the oldest seats of learning on the planet. One of the most tolerant and liberal countries, with unrivalled personal freedom and security. With justice and equality for all it's citizens. A great overall standard of living, and the freedom of expression the envy of most of the world.
Great cuisine, fantastic culture, arts, music, film, some of the worlds greatest sports events, we've even got the BBC!
Beautiful cities, stunning countryside full of charming little villages full of thatched cottages and little pubs.
Every country has it's problems, but Britians minor ...more
I've lived in the UK my whole adult life and it doesn't deserve to be at the top of the list. My partner is British and I love him dearly, but I do not recommend anyone to live here and he agrees.
The UK is only G7 country with continuously increasing levels of inequality since the beginning of the century. It definitely shows in all of the rural areas with poor level of education and development. Taxation is insane, the less you earn the more you pay. Tax haven of the world for corporations though.
Environment is nothing to be excited about either, despite of being one of the earliest member of the EU, they are still just learning the basics of recycling, leaving majority of the streets incredibly dirty, especially in the cities.
University education is something to be excited about, but is ridiculously expensive. Benefits have been stopped behind the closed door too, making it impossible for poorest students to attend. Nothing to rave about, since you can get it ...more
Why Czech Republic is in the 34th spot here? You should discover more off this promise its like as beautiful like its neighboring country Germany.
It is a beautiful country, and one of the only countries in Eastern Europe that has a democracy. People here have peaceful lives.
It's a safe and pretty country with loads of history. The highest concentration of castles per square km in the world. The salaries are a bit lower compared to other EU countries, but the cost of living is much lower, so you end up on top.
I like living in Prague. The cost of living Is reasonable and there is nice nature and always lots to do. Very good public transport.
Clean and beautiful. The only problem is in Vienna people still smoke in cafes. So even though it is an amazing place. The smoking thing would reduce my quality of life so I couldn't live there.
The heart of Europe should be at least top 5. Very clean, friendly people combined with amazing nature that makes you think you are in the garden of Eden.
Beautiful nature, structured country and amazing cities. The scenery is great whether it's winter, summer or spring. Good economy.
Is a beautiful, clean, safe country, with amazing landscapes and with clean air!
In the Netherlands works good, people tell you the true.
For work is a great place to be, just the weather is not the best, everything else it's amazing.
People respect you and they're is not discrimination if you are foreign, especially in Amsterdam it's really multicultural.
I am från the netherlands but live in sweden right know. The netherlands should really be placed a lot higher than this trough the fact that you feel a lot safer there then in countries like sweden and denmark. The netherlands has a great school and social system. In sweden the social doesn't work neither do the police. Its right know just a waste of tax money.
Most liberal country in Europe in my humble opinion. Coming from another country, I did not feel like a foreigner here. Almost everyone speaks english. Can't say the same for Germany or France.
Netherlands is the best place to live in Europe if you are non European because Dutch people are the least racist and most fair in comparison to other nations in Europe.
But in general I think Germany is the best country in Europe if you are German.
Beautiful and varied climate, nice people (very respectful and honest with their feelings), great food, peaceful, very little racism, no terrorism, vendors are very honest and don't rip off tourists even when given ample opportunity (I would deliberately try to overpay by pretending not to be familiar with the currency, and they'd always correct me and give me the correct change.), Responsible for Ronaldo, Nani, Nelly Furtado, Jose Mourinho, Tom Hanks, etc... Great wines and very inexpensive. The people are humble - they don't know how great their country is and always down play it. Consequently, most people have no idea what Portugal has contributed to the rest of the world because Portuguese people are not show-offs. Unlike the Italians whom have the habit of taking credit for other cultures' ideas and inventions. Uggghh.
I love Portugal! The people are nice and the food is amazing.
The only problem is the people here are always saying that this country is very bad and that's bad, for example this country has one of the best public healthcare systems in the world (even better than Germany) but the portuguese people say that "the healthcare system is very bad" but it's not! Compared to other countries in Europe, I think that Portugal is one of the best countries to live in Europe! :-)
Viva Portugal!
Gorgeous country and highly underrated! With it's beautiful beaches, great food, and interesting history I find it a better destination spot than Brazil or other romance language speaking countries!
I spent there 3 month during my erasmus and I loved it! The food is amazing, selection of wines (which is also very cheap in comparison to other countries), people are so welcoming and warm, weather is good nice...
I honesty don't have a one bad word for this country...
Ireland is the best. The best celebrities like Jacksepticeye, Liam Neeson, Ryan Reynolds and much more, Irish men and women are beautiful and study shows Ireland is the best country in Not only Europe but the word, next to Finland and Switzerland.
Ireland has everything, its developed as a first world country yet isn't over crowded and dirty like england is becoming. Lots of green, lovely people, life revolves around music and booze, what could be a better place!?
I just voted Ireland, because of the flag I thought it was Italy, Italy has real beaches, best girls, best culture, greatest history, birth of the modern world, I don't belive Ireland is like that.
Lived there almost 20 years ago and they are tolerant, organised and probably the friendliest people in the world. For a small population living in a relatively large country everything works and works well
Easily the best country in the world. We get a bad rep for being drunkards, sectarian and unfriendly but just spend a day in Glasgow and you'll see that our people are that of such a welcoming nature.
To be fair we don't mind a drink
Edinburgh is a fantastic City (a horseshoe bay with lots of opportunity). I lived in California, Zurich, Melbourne but Edinburgh beats them all. I has a strong economy - and a rising population. It has EIF, city nature awards, UNESCO status and top class coast suburbs of Aberdour, Burntisland, Nth Berwick all with fab beaches. Good EU relations Scotland is seen as more pluralist than other parts of UK. Integrated EU City with lots to see and do. Edinburgh is a Fab City.
Super friendly and social people and beautiful nature. Great bars, people of all ages go night out. Free universities! I love Scotland!
Scotland 21st? How is that possible? It's one of the most beautiful countries I've ever been to. Also the home of golf, and whiskey!
Italy covers an area of 301,338 km². With almost 62 million inhabitants, it is the third most populous EU member state. Located in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea, Italy shares open land borders with France, Switzerland, Austria, Slovenia, San Marino, and Vatican City. The... read more
If you want to live in a country rich in culture then Italy is hands down the best country. I am surprised it's at number 15. Italian cities are among the most beautiful cities in the world and the people are always friendly. There are tons of activities to do, you can literally go skiing and then go to some of the most gorgeous beaches in the world on the same day. The food and climate is ideal, especially in the south. There are pretty large expat communities in bigger cities.
To be fair, Italy's infrastructure and services are not the best although they are improving. The streets are full of potholes and the outskirts of big cities are generally ugly and badly built. The public transportation systems in big cities are not as good as other EU cities because every time they dig they find ancient Roman and ancient Greek stuff. Add this to the bad local administration. The south, while arguably more beautiful, is much poorer than the north, mainly due to the state government's neglect.
In sum, while Italy is not the best place to live in the world, it certainly deserves top 5 spot in Europe.
Greece is a magnificent country. Despite the crisis, greeks know how to have fun. In Greece the sun is always shining. It has beautiful beaches and spectacular landscapes to see. Greece's seas are very safe due to the absence of sharks and other dangerous species. The costs of living in Greece are really down compared with most European countries. I've lived in Greece forever and I wouldn't change her for anything
I'm from Greece and I know it is just AWESOME! Just suggest that Greece is only for people that are NOT vegans or vegetarians because they will have a pretty hard time finding something on the menu.
I wouldn't mind waking up to sunny weather and pretty landscapes every day rather that the moodiness and rain of my country..
You know, it would be cool to have homes in all sorts of places to refresh your mind. Like going to Greece to escape from hectic NYC.
Beautiful rural areas, although in my opinion less developed than England
There are many good and nice people living in this country, but also some powerful people who are dragging the land. But as a tourist I like to go there, they have a beautiful sea and a coastline.
Amazing country, friendly people, great food and perfect weather... Clean sea one of the best tourist country in the world. Simply love Croatia
One of rare places where..if you show respect it will be returned! Don't try to change anything accept local way of living and they will accept you with arms wide open
If you work in Luxembourg you get a lot of money!
It is peaceful, clean and less populated. Also it has negligible crime rates, poverty and industries.
Well organized place
Super safe and fancy
