Top 10 Saddest Deaths in Disney Movies

The Top Ten
1 Mufasa - Lion King Mufasa is a major character in Disney's 1994 animated feature film, The Lion King. He is Simba's father, Sarabi's mate, Scar's older brother, and was King of the Pride Lands until his death. He is voiced by James Earl Jones.

Without a doubt, the saddest death in any movie, Disney or not. Simba lost his father at a young age and was forced to run away because of it. Disney really thought Mufasa's death through too well.

Simba lost him at a young age, and Simba then blames himself. I feel like this makes it worse.

The Lion King is my favorite Disney movie. This is the saddest death! Scar deserved to die!

2 Ellie - Up

What made it hard was watching her entire life with Carl and how happy she made him. Trying to stay strong until the very end.

She died immediately after she failed to have a baby. Dang, talk about tugging your heartstrings.

We rarely know her, but I loved her personality.

3 Bing Bong - Inside Out

What makes Bing Bong's death so emotional is that he knowingly sacrificed himself to make sure the person he cared most about could experience happiness again.

He's my second favorite character (after Sadness). I love that he cares for Riley so much to give himself up.

As an unemotional 18-year-old boy, even I had to hold back my tears during this scene.

4 Bambi's Mother - Bambi

This one was way sadder than Mufasa's death (which wasn't sad at all)!

When mothers die, you turn into a crying machine.

Watched the movie once. Never again.

5 Ray - The Princess and the Frog

Ray is my favorite character. He is just so funny and loving. I'm glad he is with Evangeline.

Ray was so funny and kind-hearted.

It was so sad. I cried. I'm so sad now.

6 Tadashi - Big Hero 6 Tadashi Hamada is a fictional character who appears in Walt Disney Animation Studios' 54th animated feature, Big Hero 6. The film is inspired by a Marvel comic book of the same name.

This was just heartbreaking. I'm almost crying now just thinking of it.

I was bawling my eyes out. He was awesome. He died for no reason. *Sniffed*

7 Koda's Mother - Brother Bear
8 Coral - Finding Nemo

Sad. What would've been different in Finding Nemo if both Coral and Marlin survived with that egg named 'Nemo'?

9 Baymax - Big Hero 6 Baymax is a fictional character, a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

This one almost made me want to cry because he just looks so adorable, and he just went away!

10 Han Solo - Star Wars: The Force Awakens Han Solo is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise. In the original film trilogy, Han and his co-pilot, Chewbacca, become involved in the Rebel Alliance which opposes the Galactic Empire. He is primarily portrayed by Harrison Ford. Han Solo served as the focus of the 2018 film Solo: A Star... read more

This was the only movie I ever shed tears on. It was one singular tear, but it was still a tear. No more Han. I felt so bad for Chewy.

The Contenders
11 Gamora - Avengers: Infinity War Gamora is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Jim Starlin, the character first appeared in Strange Tales #180. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she is portrayed by Zoe Saldana.

I cried when she died. I love Gamora. I hate Thanos for killing her.

12 Iron Man/Tony Stark- Avengers: Endgame

I strongly disagree with this decision. I almost cannot watch any of the movies anymore.

13 Leslie - Bridge to Terabithia

It was so sad! Leslie never deserved to die! She was so nice.

It's so sad that a creative and brave girl could die in the place of their magical kingdom.

14 Yondu - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2
15 Mama Coco - Coco
16 Sitka - Brother Bear
17 Kerchak - Tarzan
18 Agent Coulson - The Avengers
19 Gramma Tala - Moana

She influences the whole movie and fuels Moana's need to see the ocean and save her family and her island.

This death made my mom cry and made me cry too, but then she comes back as a spirit manta ray.

20 Wall-E - Wall-E

I love him. That is all I have to say.

21 Gurgi - The Black Cauldron

To give up his life for his friends! Oh, I feel this movie is so underrated!

22 Loki - Avengers: Infinity War Loki Laufeyson, or Loki Odinson, is a fictional character appearing in the American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is the adoptive brother and archenemy of Thor, and is known as the "God of Mischief". In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character has been portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.

I was so angry when Loki, the best character in Avengers, died. Seeing Thanos get beaten up by two people in What If...? felt pretty good.

He was a great character. After all he's done for the franchise, it's okay that he's dead.

23 Groot - Guardians of the Galaxy
24 Esmeralda - Hunchback of Notre Dame Esméralda, born Agnès, is a fictional character in Victor Hugo's 1831 novel The Hunchback of Notre-Dame.

She didn't die. She was just unconscious.

25 Arlo's Dad - The Good Dinosaur
