Top 10 Best Red Dead Redemption II Characters

Red Dead Redemption II does not just hand you a gang of outlaws and ask you to point a revolver at trouble. It gives you people you argue with, forgive, distrust, mourn, and occasionally want to shove off the nearest cliff for making another terrible plan. You ride beside them long enough that campfire jokes, quiet confessions, doomed loyalty, and one very suspicious case of lumbago start to feel personal.

As much as we all love Arthur, he wasn't a good man. At least, not in the eyes of the innocent. In our eyes, he's one of the best men out there, but through the eyes of the innocent, he's a killer.

Man, I just started The Last of Us Part II, and spoilers. I can't have any video game main characters. First Arthur Morgan, then John Marston, then Lee Everett, then Joel Miller. I can't have a single one!

Such an amazing character. Reading his diary and hearing his conversations with gang members really showed his softer side. I love how his character evolves through the story.
John Marston

I think Rob Wiethoff will forever be remembered as John Marston. Why wouldn't he be? He's one of my favorite fictional characters ever.

Dutch van der Linde

Dutch is a very charismatic leader who needs more of his story explored. Even though he becomes an antagonist at the end, I still think he redeemed himself. He even says he didn't join Micah but tried to kill him! He needs his own DLC to explore his story.

While I love Arthur, I have to vote for Dutch. He's easily the most well-written character, and it's almost unbelievable to see how well his character is set up for the first game over the course of RDR2's story.

He's arguably the best-written video game antagonist of all time.
Sadie Adler

I loved her character, but I don't think she loved Arthur. I'd say she saw Arthur the way John saw Arthur, as a brother.

She has to be one of the most badass Red Dead Redemption characters in all three Red Dead games.

I don't see why people ship her and Arthur. They have more of a brother-sister relationship.
Hosea Matthews

I'd argue that he was more important to the gang than Dutch was. Dutch was the leader, but Hosea was the one keeping Dutch together and trying to keep the peace. Once Hosea died, Dutch showed his true self.

The instant anger from the other gang members, including Bill, who was constantly treated poorly by Hosea even when Bill was trying to be nice, shows how beloved Hosea was in the gang.

Every mission this guy was in was a really good mission, from "Eastward Bound" to "Banking, the Old American Art". Banger after banger, dude.
Charles Smith

The thing I love about Charles is that whenever Arthur needed him to ride with him, he didn't ask any questions. He's just ride or die when it comes to helping Arthur.
I also think that him, Uncle, and Arthur robbing the Rhodes bank was kind of revenge for Sean, since Sean was killed in Rhodes.

It would be pretty cool if there was ever a DLC centered around Charles. He's one of the best characters in the game and one of the most likable.

This guy deserves all the credit for the times he helped the gang and other people. He would have sided with Arthur.
Lenny Summers

But in seriousness, his death hurt me the most (minus Arthur) because he was just 19 and wanted to prove himself. Plus, it feels like he was becoming Arthur's protégé before he died. Plus, he's involved in the best mission in the game, the one where you get WASTED!

After he died, I went back to Valentine and got drunk in the saloon just so I could hear Arthur yell LENNY! one last time.
He was 19 when he died.

I replayed this mission so many times to try and save him, but it is impossible.
Micah Bell

Micah is a really well-designed villain. He's pure evil yet has a funny side. He's the kind of villain you love to hate. Micah is a much better villain than Bill or Ross from the first game.

I kind of feel like he's an O'Driscoll. When the O'Driscolls attack the gang at Shady Bell, he's nowhere to be seen.

Good antagonist. I also think he's funny.
Javier Escuella

He was smart. He didn't want to betray his brothers, but he didn't want to die. He saw one of his brothers dying from an illness and the other with a bullet in his arm, versus three skilled gunmen and two guns for hire, pretty much. I also felt bad for Cleet.

He just feels so chill. He is like the one dude in the friend group that never gets mad, and when he does, everyone just goes into shock.

Everyone is saying that he was a bad guy and whatever. But he was a pretty cool guy - he was just really loyal to Dutch.
Uncle

Uncle is hilarious. He's a nice guy, but at the same time, he always has an excuse to get out of something physical. Overall, he's in my top three.

I don't know why he wanted to go with Arthur, Bill, and Charles to rob a stagecoach. He should be glad the lumbago didn't kill him.

Sean MacGuire

I think the reason I like Sean so much is because there aren't many Scottish or Irish video game characters. Also, how can you not be charmed by him?

He is such an underrated character in any game.
What makes me the saddest about his death is that nobody was even sad about him dying.

I still want to know what he was gonna say before he got a window in his skull. He was a good kid though.
Kieran Duffy

He had the worst death in the series. I think he got captured after the mission where Jack returns. He gets drunk and is seen outside of camp by some O'Driscolls and is tortured.

He has the worst death in the Red Dead series. He would have sided with Arthur.

He did not deserve that brutal death. Kieran was so sweet and kind.

I know he had a family, but I feel like he would have sided with Arthur.

He got a family. I think he took his kids and wife to New York.

I don't see her having a crush on Arthur. Instead, like Tilly, I think she saw Arthur as a protective and trustworthy big brother. Arthur trusted her so much that she's one of the only ones he told about his illness. He didn't even tell Dutch, or even Sadie or John, if I remember.

I know people have already thought this, but I feel like Mary-Beth always had a little crush on Arthur. She would have sided with Arthur.

Her and Tilly were nice. So was Molly, before she went insane.

Eagle Flies

For Native American characters, it's either really poor or really racist. Eagle Flies and Rains Fall were neither of those. I like Eagle Flies better because his missions don't just involve riding horses and collecting plants and artifacts, but involve shooting!

If you think about it, Eagle Flies was technically a member of the Van der Linde gang for saving Arthur's life twice. If Kieran got accepted for saving Arthur, then it would make sense that Eagle Flies did too.

I consider him a member of the Van der Linde gang. If you remember, Kieran was accepted into the gang because he saved Arthur's life in "Paying a Social Call". Eagle Flies saved Arthur from three army men in "My Last Son".
Even though he died not too long after, I still consider him a member of the gang.
