182 Friedrich Nietzsche Friedrich Nietzsche Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was a German philosopher, cultural critic, poet, and Latin and Greek scholar whose work has exerted a profound influence on Western philosophy and modern intellectual history.

Why isn't he the first?!?!

Easily one of the most insightful thinkers in the history of man, often miss quoted and miss understood. total genius

I have to wonder what the greatest and most progressive philosopher of all time does at spot 259, sandwiched between Kurt Cobain and DJ Khaled. Okay, I get Kurt Cobain, he was an influential figure on modern music and can also be considered a poet, but what the f, DJ Khaled?

Okay, maybe he is nice and maybe he does some decent music - I don't know, I don't listen to him and don't really know what hits he had - but this is not a list about the nicest or the most talented people, but about the greatest of all time. People who are/were visionary and either had a certain impact on society, or should have impact in the future, if they are underrated or still alive. - Martin_Canine

Nietzsche's philosophy was not only way ahead of its time but also should be still relevant to every one who regards themselves a free thinker. His main philosophy of the Übermensch involves around the theory that only whoever looks beyond what society's boundaries and morals is truly free and "superior" to the mass. It's what many great people; rebels, musicians, people who had great influence on the world and its cultures, did and got praised for. They developed a mind of their own and ignored what they were expected to do and think, and sometimes changed the world to the better. Even though Nietzsche often valids his points in rather controversial ways that sometimes seem to aggressively attack certain things about society that are not entirely bad, the essence is exceptionally great. And no, he had nothing to do with the Nazis. The Nazis stood for everything Nietzsche was against, and only used the term "Übermensch" out of context for their propaganda. Übermensch translates to ...more - Martin_Canine

184 Pope John Paul II Pope John Paul II

Pope John Paul II was to most the pope with charity. Everyone looked up to him especially Polish people. He would visit the kind and the sick while giving the a comfortable speech.

He wasn't a reformer. He was very conservative and probably set the church back decades.

Best reformer the Catholic Church has ever seen!

185 Neil Armstrong Neil Armstrong

"Who was the first person to walk on the moon? " will never be a University Challenge question even in 3000 AD - it will always be too well-known. After a while, "Who invented the moonwalk? " or "Moonraker is part of which film series? " may be - but Neil Armstrong will be remembered at least until we colonise Mars.

Shocking that the only person who will still be remembered in 10,000 years is this low on the list.
Nobody in the distant future will give a hoot about any of our artistic, political, or even scientific endeavors.
The ONLY thing that will be remembered, will be the first human being to leave the planet and walk on another world.

Legend says it that he still be on the mon

How is he so low on the list? He was the first man to walk on the moon! - olliv

188 Hillary Clinton Hillary Clinton Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton is an American politician and a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination in the 2016 election.

Now that she's beating out Bernie Sanders, it's most likely we will have her as the next president of the United States. And to be honest, although she's not as good as Barack Obama, her going to Yale and being incredibly strong when in debates makes me think that she won't be that bad a president. Oh, and stop saying the only reason people want her to be president is because she will be the first female president! We didn't just vote for Barack Obama just because we wanted the first black president. We wanted him because he knew what to do for the country and would do great things like ending the war in Iraq and pulling us out of the Bush deficit. Now let's see what Hillary Clinton will do if she gets elected. Screw Donald Trump. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

What is that evil and corrupt woman doing on this list?

I can say the same thing about your precious Ronald McDonald Trump. By the way, Hillary Clinton is easily the most qualified candidate since Jefferson as stated by a Bernie Sanders supporter and I've always favored her from the beginning like my family did. Also, she went to Yale, can stand her ground in debates, and is actually smart unlike Donald Trump! So shut up, Clinton haters! - ModernSpongeBobSucks

Why is she above Neil Armstrong? You have got to be kidding me. - JustAnAccount

Bull crap. A lying, horrible woman.

190 Srinivasa Ramanujan Srinivasa Ramanujan

Not the greatest person, but he made so many mathematical accomplishments BY HIMSELF. He did not receive ANY outside help like Einstein, Tesla, Newton, etc. He did EVERYTHING by himself, he rediscovered old theorems (remember he had no outside information that the theorems had been discovered) that took mathematicians hundreds of years to create. And he did so in the span of a few years solely by himself. It's such a shame that he died at 32, if he lived longer he would've been among the greatest mathematicians of all time.

Legend in maths. Media should take responsibility to inform people more about him. He made Indians proud by giving world class contribution to maths.
