Top 10 Marvel Characters With The Most Wasted Potential

TheDarkOne_221b
While Marvel has introduced a lot of well-executed and developed characters, it also has a share of very undeveloped and mostly characters that have a lot of potential but were wasted. So without further ado, let's get started.

The Top Ten

1 Captain Marvel Captain Marvel Ms. Marvel is the name of several fictional superheroes appearing in comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Definitely my #1 pick. I haven't watched Captain Marvel, but from what I've read, heard, and seen from Avengers: Endgame, she's definitely the character with the most wasted potential.

When I first heard she's getting a role in Avengers Endgame, I wasn't very excited (since I'm not a fan of her), but I was kinda hoping she'd be a good character and a very good use to the Avengers. The sad thing is, she was completely irrelevant throughout the entire movie except the beginning and in the end and from what I've read of Captain Marvel (the movie) and from what other people have been saying about her, she's a big disappointment. In fact, she had no relevance or weight in the franchise aside from just being an average Mary Sue. Heck, I would've been fine if she died in Endgame instead of Tony since she has no reason for existing (or any reason for us to feel sad for her).
To sum it all up, Captain Marvel is a character that had potential to be good, but sadly ended up as an ...more - TheDarkOne_221b

Captain Marvel had so much potential, but the unfortunate part of bringing in an origin story right at the tale end climax of the Marvel chapter is that everything seems contrived and rush to make the character fit, they would have been better introducing her during the string of new character origins stories they'll be making to create the new Avenger - germshep24

Captain Marvel was barely in Endgame, but I honestly like it better that way. If she was there for the entire movie, she would have done all the work, considering she's supposedly the "strongest character" in the MCU. I just don't understand why they had to add her in the universe in the first place. I mean, we have the Hulk, Thor, and Scarlet Witch! - Misfire

She got like two seconds in Endgame. - Camaro6

2 Quicksilver Quicksilver Quicksilver is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character first appeared in the comic book X-Men #4 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

Easily one of the most wasted characters. They could've given us more scenes and characterization for Quicksilver to make his death more meaningful and sad, but he never got the characterization he could've had before he died. I mean, Tony, Cap, Thor, and the others got some characterization, why can't Quicksilver? Why must he die off with so much potential that could've been developed for him in Age Of Ultron? - TheDarkOne_221b

The one instance where Marvel really screwed up a character so badly that it makes you wonder why even introduce the character in the first place, his existence inside the MCU was utterly purposeless and pointless and if they just introduced Scarlet Witch it would have been a thousand times better - germshep24

He was supposed to come back in Endgame. Hawkeye was originally meant to go back to Age of Ultron events bring him back (instead of his child's glove). - Tia-Harribel

Yous should of saw this coming. This quick boy had no great scence instead of him fighting the avengers

3 Vision Vision The Vision is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is an android and a member of the Avengers who first appeared in The Avengers #57.

Vision, was very promising and interesting at first. He started off very interesting and promising, but he never got any development of sort. He was very wasted in Infinity War, with him nerfed and wasn't even that relevant, making his death feel very hollow and not that sad compared to Spider-Man's and Dr. Strange's deaths. - TheDarkOne_221b

4 Heimdall Heimdall Heimdall is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is based on the Norse deity Heimdallr.

Like Vision, Loki, and Gamora, Heimdall was horribly wasted. He never got a conclusion of any sort to end his arc, instead he got killed by Thanos without any development of sort, leaving his death VERY underwhelming. - TheDarkOne_221b

Heimdall wasn't really wasted, he got a bad ass send off, perhaps a movie about how he became the guardian of the gate would be fun - germshep24

He was because we never got much character development or moments with him and he never got any emotional moments - TheDarkOne_221b

I want my boi back please marvel PLEASE

5 Dark Phoenix Dark Phoenix

The phoenix saga gets botched again and this time they don't have a new director to blame for it, though they can definitely blame Disney - germshep24

6 Black Widow Black Widow Natalia Alianovna Romanoff, most known as Natasha Romanoff or the Black Widow, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. She is one of the most talented spies and assassins in the entire world and is a founding member of the Avengers. The character was created ...read more.

She was done very well, especially for a character that hadn't got an origin story like Cap, Iron, and Thor, but we are finally getting that origin story, because it is the origin story that truly makes her character - germshep24

Honestly, I thought they did it well. She died a hero and redeemed herself from the bad things she had done in the past. - Misfire

But I feel like we never got much of her before she died. There wasn't a lot of weight in her sacrifice and she didn't get a very good conclusion, as there's still more to her character that can be more developed - TheDarkOne_221b

She may be one of my favorites, but she was WASTED. - bendyfazjazz234

While I admit Black Widow's death was very sad in Endgame, that doesn't excuse her from being on this list. I, myself like Natasha Romanoff, but I will admit she was quite wasted badly in Endgame. She never got any character arc before she died in the movie, and that's quite sad since she deserves one for being such a great character in the other movies. A shame she didn't get a proper conclusion :(. - TheDarkOne_221b

7 Loki Loki Loki Laufeyson, or Loki Odinson, is a fictional character appearing in the American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is the adoptive brother and archenemy of Thor, and is known as the "God of Mischief". In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character has been portrayed by Tom Hiddleston.

Don't think he belongs on the list, his character is one of the most well thought out and complex characters Marvel has made, sure you might not like his death, but his arch was over before that point - germshep24

Like Romanoff, I like Loki, but even I admit he was wasted badly in Infinity War and Endgame. Instead of getting some really nice and touching scenes in the movies, he just got killed within the FIRST 5 MINUTES of Infinity War without any touching scenes. It's even worse in Endgame since we never got any good dialogue or characterization. - TheDarkOne_221b

He wasn't wasted. His arc was done. - Tia-Harribel

8 Odin Odin Odin Borson is a fictional character appearing in the American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character was the former King of Asgard, protector of the Nine Realms, father of Hela and Thor, the adoptive father of Loki, husband of Frigga, and was known as the "God of War and Wisdom". In ...read more.

Odin in the comics was very powerful and a complete boss, in the movies, he never got to do anything exciting, other than giving speeches to everyone. His death may have done a decent amount of an impact to Thor, but it kinda wastes him a lot since we never got to see him in action or at his prime as a character. - TheDarkOne_221b

Odin was pretty wasted, they should have spent more time in Asgard in the first movie instead of having Thor on Earth for so much of the movie - germshep24

9 Gamora Gamora Gamora is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by Jim Starlin, the character first appeared in Strange Tales #180.

Seriously, she never got the development she deserves. After the 2014 Gamora "reunited" with Quill, there wasn't much interaction. Now I will understand they couldn't give scenes during the battle against Thanos, but why not do it after Tony's funeral? Maybe they could give a few minutes to the other characters like Dr. Strange, The Guardians, and the other characters that were snapped away by Thanos in Infinity War. - TheDarkOne_221b

She was done very well, easily the best developed character of the entire Guardians of the Galaxy, to have her you might as well add the rest of the guardians on the list - germshep24

Another character whose arc was finished. She wasn't wasted. - Tia-Harribel

10 Maria Hill Maria Hill

I think Maria herself is quite well characterized as a side character, but I think there's more to her that could've been better. - TheDarkOne_221b

I hope we still get to see her in future films. - Misfire

The Contenders

11 Yon-Rogg
12 Hulk Hulk Robert Bruce Banner, also known as The Hulk or Bruce Banner, is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. WASTED! In Infinity War. - bendyfazjazz234

She was done very well, especially for a go around of her being a mutant since Fox owned the mutants - germshep24

Not as wasted as the others, but didn't get enough development for her character. - TheDarkOne_221b

15 Maria Rambeau
16 Supreme Intelligence
17 Ronan Ronan Ronan the Accuser is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
18 Monica Rambeau Monica Rambeau

How is she wasted if she wasn't introduced, her story might be what they bring into the next chapter since the first chapter is finally done
Though I'll admit I haven't watched the T.V. shows and maybe she was introduced there - germshep24

19 Talos
20 Human Torch (Original) Human Torch (Original) The Human Torch is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

(WARNING: LONG BLOCK OF TEXT AHEAD)
First off, this guy is NOT Johnny Storm of the Fantastic Four. He starred in the very first story in the very first issue of Marvel Comics (at this time the company was called Timely: "Marvel Comics" was a series). The original Human Torch was an android created by Professor Horton, but due to a design flaw, when the android was exposed to air it would immediately burst into flames. The other scientists attempted to contain the android in a steel tube, inside a concrete block (for good measure) so he wouldn't cause too much damage. Turns out the tube wasn't quite as secure as the scientists believed and a little air got inside...one explosion later, the Torch is running around the city setting everything on fire.
Now at this point you might think this guy is a villain. Not the case-it turns out his wanton destruction is a result of the flames being uncontrollable, even by the android itself, who is actually trying to put himself out. After an ...more

Can we wait till Venom 2 before we say he was wasted, because so far he hasn't, he was introduced to bring hype for a sequel, if that sequel never comes then it would be a waste, kind of the the ending of Spider Man 3 - germshep24
