Top 10 Metal Subgenres Canada is Best At
Most known bands from this subgenre - Cryptopsy, Gorguts, Beyond Creation, Quo Vadis, Augury, Martyr
Summary (I should have used this as a list description):
1) Canada is good at extreme metal
2) Canada is good at technical versions of standard subgenres
3) Canada is good at progressive stuff (no surprise, Rush are Canadians and influenced metal scene)
4) surprise: Canada has many black metal bands waiting to be discovered
IronSabbathPriest - I agree with you of course. While I think that Norwegian black metal is better (probably Norwegians will always be the best, this is their thing after all), I would say that Canada is pretty good at black metal. Canadian black metal bands aren't known for several reasons:
1) black metal is very underground in general, everywhere in the world;
2) black metal fans focus on Norwegian bands (I don't blame them though);
3) who knows there's black metal in Canada? (besides you and me, haha).
@M_T, yeah I also enjoy the Norwegian scene more, but the Canadian scene I feel is slightly more original than modern black metal bands from other countries. I'll be honest though, I only discovered most of it, like Forteresse and Gris, this year.
Canada, particularly Quebec is a breeding ground for black metal. Forteresse are a favourite of mine.
