There were only two aspects of this movie that are also n the book the fact that food falls from the sky, and the fact that they escape the island when the falling food becomes too bad. Absolutely nothing else is similar
This should be number one. At least with HTTYD, the characters have the same names. With this, not even THAT is right.

Firstly, there is no portal to The Cat's world.
There is also a ton of adult jokes that was meant for The Grinch but Ron Howard cut it out. Read the book then watch the movie and you will see. No wonder it has only got 10% on Rotten Tomatoes!
Thing 1 and Thing 2 are so creepy
People complain about the sea of monsters but in terms of writing the whole movie was close except for the last 15 minutes which took the ending of the series and threw it in right then and there.

Greg and Rodrick never got along in the book. The movie, meanwhile, also takes it's plot from the THIRD book, rather than the second.

This movie BARELY relates to the book, other than the main story and the characters. Roscuro comes from a ship, there's a cat for some reason, Gregory doesn't die, now he's somehow Mig's dad, and Despereaux and Roscuro are friends.
This movie made me mad even as a young child who loved the book.

It's true, the movie only takes what's part of the book and adds in a weird dog fight plot into it because there is nearly no material that is in the book. It's just too bad that the movie put a cliched story into it, which makes it more annoying than what it could've been.
