The year 1999 was a landmark year for movies, with an eclectic mix of films that ranged from cult classics to commercial blockbusters. From the high-stakes drama of "The Sixth Sense" to the genre-bending action of "The Matrix," 1999 gave us some of the most iconic movies of all time.

The year also marked the emergence of new talents in Hollywood, including directors like Spike Jonze and David Fincher, who delivered some of their most groundbreaking work to date. As we approach the 25th anniversary of this incredible year in cinema, it's time to take a look back at the top 10 movies that defined 1999 and continue to inspire and entertain audiences to this day.

The Top Ten
  1. Fight Club

One of the greatest movies I've ever watched. I do think this movie is better than The Matrix. In my opinion, only Fight Club and The Green Mile are better than The Matrix for 1999.

What the hell, this is the best movie of 1999! The Matrix is not better than Fight Club. I saw this movie more than 100 times without feeling bored.

Yes, both Fight Club and The Matrix are awesome movies, but this one is just slightly better.

  2. The Matrix

What if I told you he never said "what if I told you" in the series?

  3. American Beauty

The movie proves that almost everything can be beautiful in the world, even the flying of a package moved by the wind.

A pretty amazing film from one of my favorite directors. Keep up the good work, Sam!

No words to describe this movie. It's philosophical, touching, and beautiful.

  4. Toy Story 2

I'm going to say that Toy Story 2 is the best movie in the whole entire world!

  5. The Green Mile

Michael Clarke Duncan was phenomenal in this movie. It is a definite must-watch. If this isn't the best performance in a movie Tom Hanks is in, I don't know what is.

  6. The Sixth Sense

  7. The Iron Giant

Great animation, great story, likable and relatable characters... This is one of the greatest animated movies I've ever seen.

  8. South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

  9. Galaxy Quest

  10. Tarzan

Awesome Disney classic, I should say!

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Lake Placid

  13. ?

    Any Given Sunday

  14. The Contenders
  15. Eyes Wide Shut

Eyes Wide Shut is one of the best films I have ever seen. Criminally underrated.

  16. American Pie

Awesome movie. The latest American Pie movie sucks.

  17. Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace

I guess the old Star Wars movies were so good that people disrespect the new prequels.

Loved this movie, my second favorite Star Wars movie.

The first movie of the Star Wars prequels, released 16 years after the last Star Wars movie, "The Return of the Jedi."

  18. Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me

  19. Cruel Intentions

  20. Double Jeopardy

  21. Girl, Interrupted

  22. Big Daddy

  23. The Mummy

Way better than the Phantom Menace! The visuals, musical score, villain, and set pieces are excellent!

Maybe the best action-adventure-comedy movie of the decade.

  24. Office Space

    Peter Gibbons:

So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life.

    Dr. Swanson:

What about today? Is today the worst day of your life?

    Peter Gibbons:

    Yeah.

    Dr. Swanson:

    Wow, that's messed up.

  25. Magnolia

  26. Being John Malkovich

  27. The Talented Mr. Ripley

  28. 10 Things I Hate About You

Heath Ledger's 3rd best movie, behind The Dark Knight and Brokeback Mountain. It is my favorite rom-com, rivaled only by (500) Days of Summer.

  29. The Boondock Saints
