Top Ten Queen Songs Featuring a Piano
The piano was a staple of their music in the 1970s because of Freddie Mercury; one of his classmates at St. Peter's Boarding School in Bombay said that he had a strong ability to play what he heard on the radio. Unfortunately, he played the piano less and less as time went on, preferring to be out in front of the audience. I only want examples with a real piano, not electric piano (i.e. You're My Best Friend), synthesizer (i.e. The Show Must Go On, Who Wants to Live Forever, The Miracle), or any other type of keyboard. Feel free to add this list; I also encourage you to have an open mind when voting on this list.An obvious choice for number one. Freddie built the original song around the piano, and they recorded the basic track with just piano, bass, and drums.
Fabulous song, great vocals and Freddy is great on the piano.
I love this song so good
Greatest song ever
The song starts out with a really distinctive piano riff. I tried to learn it several times, but could never get the hang of it.
I absolutely love this song and it has amazing piano playing!
The piano gives the song its rhythmic drive.
I love the piano playing in Killer Queen.
Awesome piano playing!
One of the most iconic piano intros in rock history; virtually everyone would cheer when Freddie played it.
Piano is very recognizing in this song.
The piano runs that Freddie plays in the middle are absolutely divine.
Unlike most of the other examples on this list, Brian May played piano. When they did it live, Brian played piano for the first half, and Freddie played piano in the middle while Brian played the guitar solo.
You must listen. The piano playing is amazing.
Thanks for the extra additions! I love the piano in this song.
One of my top 5 Queen songs.
The piano sort of gives out that old-timey music hall type of sound, which is what Freddie was going for.
This song is underrated.
I think that Freddie's playing in this song is semi-urgent, propelling it forward.
Brian May also played piano on this one in the studio, but Freddie would play it when they did it live.
Doing All Right and My Fairy King were the songs of the origination of Freddie’s piano skills.
Piano here is amazing, takes you back to the 40’s like you are in a Smokey lounge with Freddie soulfully playing...
I know some people automatically discount the Flash Gordon soundtrack, but I think this song is too cool not to mention. Brian May used an Imperial Bosendorfer Grand Piano on the song, which is notable for having an extra octave's worth of keys on the bottom. This explains why he gets that low, rumbly bass sound out of the piano.
I was listening to News of the World the other day and realized that I forgot about this song. I think it belongs on the list.
I used to love this song when I was younger. Now that I'm older, it amazes me that they were able to record a song that slows down and speeds up a lot. You have to spend a lot of time working with the band practicing those type of songs in order to make them feel right. Especially if you want to do it live.
Just vocals and piano, with a little multi-track guitar solo in the middle and some cymbals around. Really calm and stripped, absoloutley love the simple concept.
