Best PlayStation 2 Games
Rockstar's enormous follow-up to its smash-hit GTA series, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, was one of the most evolved sequels we've ever seen. The revamped and more responsive gameplay mechanics, the brand new vehicle physics, a ton of upgradeable skills, more than 100 different missions, and some of the best production values around proved that through and through.
But that isn't the only reason it made our top slot. Once you factor in the excellent storyline, the open-ended gameplay structure, and even two-person multiplayer elements, this one became a no-brainer. If you're looking for the most fun and flat-out best PlayStation 2 game ever created, GTA: San Andreas delivers the goods as no other game offers so much variety and ways to make it your own than Rockstar North's creation.
A huge map.
Lots of gameplay.
Variety of vehicles.
Your other negative arguments are invalid.
Great location, gameplay and characters. The setting was great on the west side of America in 1992 where hip hop music was at its finest! Radio Los santos was the best station from Tupac to Dr. Dre. The story was very good to and was clearly the best Grand Theft Auto game out of them all.
The gameplay is better than Vice City because there is more to do like fly a plane. Plus, you don't die if you accidentally hit the water. If you are looking for games to buy on your PS2 this is the one to get! Oh, did I mention that the world is absolutely huge? Buy this game if you have a PS2!
It's the best game I have ever seen. It has got a story that is incomparable with any other game. Graphics are awesome and sound effects are excellent. The moves, the combos and the magical powers are just awesomely designed. Hero is given the ultimate capability of being a god. The game is for those who love action more than anything and in my opinion it is the best and the greatest game in all the history of games
It has got the best story, best soundtrack, the moves are perfect, in action games it must be on top, really an awesome game I have ever played.
I have completed this game... And I am very happy with its game play and graphics... All the enemies all the gods are superb... The magic that it gets with time like medusa's gaze, army of hades are very awesome...
It's one of the best games I have ever played. It should be at the first. Some mad people give it to number 3 because they are goat, evil, coward, ugly and stupid. If they had brains they would give it to number 1. They are a goat
This was the game that started it all for me. I have a deep psychological connection to this game. I always told myself that Kingdom Hearts 1 & especially 2 was the height of my childhood. I waited years for KH3. I was always telling myself that my childhood would not end until Sora's story ended. Today, I am 24 years old and have finally played KH3; sadly, it was not anything compared to the all-around greatness that was Kingdom Hearts 2. Nonetheless, this series defined me in many ways as a child and it's lessons continue to linger even as an adult.
I love this game... It is so creative... Kingdom hearts is the combination of Final Fantasy and Disney characters... Explore new and familiar worlds featuring over 200 Disney characters or more.. But you should also beware of Disney villains and their devious intention... You can also team up with Disney heroes as you battle evil... And the greatest is you can see stunning graphics and authentic voice overs... Created by squareenix and Disney interactive..
Simply one of the best games ever released on the PS2, two unlikely worlds combine to make a result that turns out to be absolute genius, but be warned the game is extremely difficult at points but just as rewarding at others.
My favorite game of all time, fantastic characters, legendary gameplay, beautiful graphics, breathtaking music, show-stealing voice-work, complex and smooth story, and perfect controls add up to deserve the #1 spot.
Shadow of the Colossus has what is perhaps the most risky on-paper design we've ever seen. With only 16 enemies to fight in the game and an enormous world that is practically devoid of any actual tasks to perform, it doesn't sound like the making of one of the best adventure games ever released.
But Shadow's beauty lies in these empty spaces. It was designed much like a fairytale -- you're left to fill in the gaps with your own ideas of how things came to be, what the reason for the events are and so forth. The battles and events that are there are some of the best we've ever seen, with characters and creatures that look like they're straight out of a dream. Shadow of the Colossus is touching, mysterious, beautiful, desolate and even tragic, and these elements make it one of the most original and awe-inspiring games all of time.
If I could name one game that shouldn't be out of that list, that is Shadow of the Colossus for sure! But I still think it should be higher on the list, since it was (and still is) one of the few games that I can call pieces of art. This one however is a masterpiece, since it has a unique design, and the imagination of the creators of the game has no end, espessially the colossi are amazing!
Just to say, if you haven't tried it so far, you should. I still remember how much time I' ve spend playing this game again and again, and I've never regretted it!
This game is the leading example of how video games can be changed from a mere form of entertainment to a refined beautiful art form. Shadow of the Colossus is the number one game for anyone who is not sold on the idea that video games are not art or are still kid's toy or adult's why to escape life. This game is so great that Roger Ebert said that if he were to play any game to get the full video experience he would play Shadow of the Colossus.
This game and Silent Hill 2 are some of the games that make anyone slap themselves in the face for not taking video games for seriously. I love this game. It's challenging, it looks great, the world is huge, its fun to play, and even though it may not have much of a story but even that is still memorable.
Why this game is at NUMBER NINE is a testament to people who haven't played good games. AND WHY IS TOMB RAIDER EVEN ON THIS LIST!
This game showed me that video games could be art as well.
This game, based on visuals alone, should be top 5. Gameplay, Story, Controls, and the ability to ride Agro while shooting the Bow were all mind-blowing at it's time of release.
You're doing yourself a disservice if you haven't sat down and played this game.
This is a game even the casual gamer will play for hours on end.
This best game I have ever played in my entire life. I spend my 3 months to complete this game. I was fully admitted in this game. Even in my school my brain was thinking that how to get to the next level. This is the best game of ps2. Excellent graphics, story and lot's of time to play. I this game is the ladder of the outstanding games this game is idol for many other games. And I will give 10 out of 10.
This is my all-time favorite game to play. When you get bored with the main game, switch over and play the Mercenaries in the Extras for hours, or Separate Ways with Ada. The slowness of the players' movements is the only frustrating part but you get used to it after a while. Love it!
Leon is an awesome character, Resident Evil has a awesome story, awesome graphics for the time, and maybe the game that changed the survival horror games style, being Resident Evil or not, now they always have the jogability introduced in this game, and faster enemies.
This is the best! I will never get tired of playing this game over and over again! And I really love the characters.. They're all good.. The best resident evil game, and the best story ever! I love Leon so much!
I loved this game the minute I started playing and still play it, 10 years after the release. Love the characters, and the story and most of all, the spheregrid! Only complaint I'd have would be that there is a lot more grinding towards the end of the game, and the story plot should have continued with grinding interpersed. You suddenly finish the main plot line largely within 20 hours and suddenly need to grind for about 50-80 hours, or whatever... also the voice acting is about 1000% better in the Japanese version, trust me.
The PS2's first blockbuster RPG is still one of its best. Final Fantasy X, as we could only expect from Square, was an utterly gorgeous looking game, with stunning landscapes, a wild array of color and artistic license, and some incredibly attractive-looking character and monster designs. Still, these aspects have become the status quo for the FF series. But this time, we got voice-acting for the first time in the series, and it didn't suck!
We got a huge modification/upgrade/alteration to the battle system and the supporting cast delivered a slew of cool, goody accents. Best of all, the storyline and its ending are among the best of any game in any genre of the last generation. All in all, Final Fantasy X pretty much delivered flawlessly on the PS2, and we loved every minute of it.
This is the best video game I have ever played in my whoul life. It's not only the best PS2 game, it's the best video game ever! The story, the world, the charcters, everything about this game is so awesome! And this is not a game that you finish in a day or too. You can put up to 500 hours of gameplay in this game! And you can replay it again, and again, and again because you will never get sick of it! AHH! Such a wounderfull game!
My all time favorite game from the Final Fantasy series. The story was both amazingly epic and very sad. I liked the main character a lot and was surprised the strange twist at the end of the story. I become so drawn into the romance of the story that I obsessed over it in Final Fantasy X-2.
Take it off the list. PTC founder Tim Winter says this game is one of the worst PlayStation 2 games of the decade and pulls Vercetti from store shelves. Any PlayStation 2 owner (including myself) must trade their copies of "Grand Theft Auto Vice City" in and purchase Aussie & Ted's Great Adventure on DVD.
Still my favourite Grand Theft Auto and one of the best games ever made in my opinion. The Soundtrack changed my music interests in a long run by the way
This is such a bad game the graphics are terrible and the story is terrible and the maps tiny. Compare this to Grand Theft Auto v
Great game and fun gameplay, if you like to jack golf carts and mortocycles, then this is the game for you. THIS GAME RULES
Hey what the hell! This is the best, best game I, ve ever played in my life. And surely it should be because it has the best ps2 graphics. The action in this game is totally faadu. It should rated at first place in every list. Man this is not done! Please vote people are you sleeping huh? Take it at no one. See the powers its got, the dragons, heroes, warriors, magics...
This is the best game ever make. I like the story so much. Because the story is so touching, the anger of Kratos to kill zeus because zeus has betrayed kratos but the true thing is kratos is the one who betrayed zeus. And blablabla I think you have to play it yourself.
It is a best action game. I like this game very much. I like in game is we want find secerts and powers. Because of this extras are to find ways to go and to find many greek powers.
I still can't believe how good this game is; the production values are through the roof and it's never anything less than epic. Get it in the top 10!
I don't understand why it is so high. It is much better then some other games on the list. I mean number 11, it deserves to be in the top three. I mean it has an awesome storyline, much better then some others. Addictive gameplay, you can't get enough of it. Awesome boss battles, such as The Sorrow and Revolver Ocelot. Anyways, it surprises me to see it this high up, and it deserves better.
While Metal Gear 4 is one of my favorite games of all time, this game has a special place in my heart, the story is excellent and it has many new elements, that unlike Metal Gear V's dramatic changes worked very well.
Played and beat this game for the first time this week. The current generation consoles are still waiting for a game of this caliber and will likely continue waiting until the release of MGS4.
Best MGS game of them all. This game is insane! You have people with odd powers (Such as controlling hornets, turn into a spider.. ). This game is insane. I highly suggest playing this. You won't be disappointed.
One of the best, I don't know why some complained about the attitude of Jak, remember that each duo feature two protagonists with different attitude,
sadly, due to the poor popularity of the franchise, overshadowed by more popular games with little interests.. the serie don't have a sequel, but I think this is better than milking a franchise for years.
the Jak and Daxter serie aged very well, the transition from the old world to a futuristic environnement was a good idea, I'm glad they put a voice for Jak, because a silent protagonist isn't enough to appeal, it get old quickly, so, humoristic mixed with serious comments worth definitely a try.
Best ps 2 game I've ever played. I'm still playing it. The difficulty makes it better 'cause some missions are so hard that I actually rage. The story line is perfect and there's a lot of amazing stuff you can't do in the first game. This game is the first game in the trrilogy where jak actually speaks.
The best game ever. All of the Jaks are good (OK, tlf was a bit of a letdown) but Jak Renegade was far the best, and by far the best game ever, let alone PS2. THIS IS THE EVOLUTION OF FREE ROAMS, PEOPLE. NO AC, NO BATMAN, NO INFAMOUS, NO Grand Theft Auto, NO SAINTS ROW, NO- you get my point. But, the thing that makes this game, is NOT the crimson guards coming after you if you hurt them, is NOT the funny script and immense story, is NOT the hijacking vehicles and going insane with them- but the levels. The insane, damn fun levels, that gave you a challenge, yet a proper sense of epicness after you've done it. The fights, the simple jump and punch- just gives you that incredible feeling that no other game has been able to give yet. J&D is coming back february to ps3, with jak 1, 2 and 3 on one disc, with trophies and 3-D. YEES!
ONE OF THE GREATEST GAMES in computergame history! The Series is so thrilling and Powerful, that you have to think about it, even days after you've finished the game. I would place Jak 2 & 3 on the same level. The freedom which you enjoy in this game, is mostly like that of a Grand Theft Auto. The Grapics were great back then, but even today I wouldn't change it, because it fits the Game. It is one of those games where you feel sad after you played through it.
Though Insomniac Games hit pay dirt instantly with the first Ratchet & Clank game, it wasn't until all the concepts of a platformer, a weapons-based shooter and the lightest of RPG elements that let all those weapons and health level-ups come to a head that the series really became a must-have. Make no mistake; if you own only one of the Ratchet games on the PS2, make sure it's Up Your Arsenal. The sequel, Deadlocked, lost much of the charm of the first three games, and earlier efforts just didn't gel as completely as Up Your Arsenal, nor did they sport its online modes.
The game's length, storyline, weapon variety, different modes and ability to re-play the story through a second time were all a hoot. As if that weren't enough, you could unlock a neat little peek behind the scenes of the game's underlying tech in the Insomniac Museum (a returning feature from the previous game).
Ratchet and Clank by far was the best game ever. Got the full collection and still buying the games to this day, however multiplayer elements ruined it after 'A Crack In Time', heres hope for Q-Force!
One of the most perfect rachet and clank games ever. I have all ps 2 games 100% of the rachet and clank series but this one has so many cool weapons and secret. I always try to seek new glithes who could make the walktrough so fun, faster and maybe (at some points) jarder.
Hey everybody here is Courtney Gears! Can you hear me robots? I can hear you! I see a future, what can I see? Robots going crazy across the galaxy and all organics who are soft and squishy, the time is now then robots must be free!
I'm sorry if the text is wrong...
This is the game of the school life this was the best game ever I played the Rockstar company was really proud to relace the and Rockstar company give me and us a real and dashing game so..thanks to Rockstar company... by Rath... come on Rockstar game relace the part 2 of 'BULLY' we all are waiting... for 'JIMMY HOPKINS'...
I love this game so much because you can do the stuff you can't do in school in real life! It's even better on the wii because you actually punch
Game is not that difficult and you can throw a brick at the police and jump on a car and after 30 seconds they'll give up I mean what?
2. Grand Theft Auto San Andreas
It's the greatest game I have played on any PlayStation console.
Does not need and introduction, It is the game all other horror games want to be and deserve to be in the top 20 at least!
This may not be my favorite Silent Hill game, but for what it is Silent Hill 2 is an utterly fantastic masterpiece.
Only the greatest horror game of all time, and often considered one of the greatest games of all time, period.
Now... What is wrong with silent hill? I love the story and the graphics! Please consider...
I love Mortal Kombat. It is my favorite game series ever. But I hate this game. The fatalaties are crappy, the graphics aren't great, the gameglap isn't great either, I don't see how this is on the list for the best. Mortal kombat deadly alliance maybe but not this one.
I voted for Resident Evil 4 and Grand Theft Auto but now I must support this awesome game. MK Armageddon had some monotonous fatalities but the whole gaming, konquest mode, graphics, arenas were cool. This is one of the best MK games
It should be in one of world best games ever. It's purely mature it has best characters like stryker scorpion subzero frost sonia raiden and lots of beautiful girls and males

Last good Mortal Kombat games... It was one of the only good ones. Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, Mortal Kombat: Deception and Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks were the others.
While there's a massive fault line that gamers gather 'round to holler and scream at each other about when it comes to naming the great platformers of our era (or any era for that matter), Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy is among the elite. It represents a stellar culmination of 3D platforming elements, many of which are have been used before, and yet it still feels fresh and new even after all these years. The words "endearing" and "likeable" don't even begin to do it justice.
Besides, even if Jak hadn't spawned two successful sequels and a couple of cool offshoots, Naughty Dog's excellent PS2 rookie would still have made our list because it warmed our hearts, and created a game that was raucous, subtle, beautifully animated, and never made us feel as if we were collecting things... just how a platformer should be.
I've had so many raging times while playing this game but it was so fun to play, if I started, I could play a whole day long.
There are no words to describe how good this game is.
Better then the second and third one.
Great gameplay, and amazing storyline. If you haven't played this yet, play it. It will change your life. Just because there are Disney characters in it does not make it a game for just kids, it is so much more than that.
Disney and Final fanatasy... Who would have fought! All those people voting on Grand Theft Auto was probably thinking that this game is for little kids but its not! It really isn't they really should try it!
I shouldn't have bought a pre owned copy, the game stopped working multiple times during my few minutes playing this, then it stopped working and wouldn't work after I killed Darkside in the Awakening area. I eventually got it's Final Mix on the PlayStation 3 and I loved it...I miss my saved data... - Gehenna
I fell in love with this game. Usually when 100% is too tough, I ignore it, but here I felt a civic duty to 100% percent.
Easily my favorite game on any PlayStation console ever. Fantastic graphics, amazing gameplay and game modes, amazing variety of ways to play (such as heroes, vehicles, star fighters, etc.), and most importantly: infinite replayability.
Fun game where you get to choose your class and play on all of the Star Wars planets. Also, you are able to play as Jedi and Sith.
This is the only game I play on the PS2. Its gameplay is amazing even when you compare it to new shooters.
For a long time this was my favourite game. Along with Star Wars Battlefront 1.
Considered by some to be the first postmodern video game, Sons of Liberty takes everything gamers loved about the original MGS and flips that upside-down. You don't play as Snake, instead you play as Raiden, a wimpy looking character that reminds me of somebody I know... hmm, todays average gamer! The twists get a little crazy towards the end, but it is all worth while in this thought provoking experience. Game mechanics are also the best out of the 3 MGS games.
Without a doubt, in the 3 greatest games of all time list! and also a gripping story line, deserves to be in the top two! screw Resident Evil 5!
This is a great game, I'm a ps3 player and can't wait till number 4, metal gear solid guns of the patriots.
Best game in genre...Best game in console.
I thought this would be number one, it's an amazing game! So full of freedom and variety, and imaginative too! Modern games have become reality's b****.
Fantastic game! Needs to at least be in the top 20, are you serious..48?
My childhood went complete when I played the Ratchet & Clank series
While this is still a good game I think the lack of the ability to strafe hurts the combat
Gran turismo 4 is the best driving style game among all consoles and by the time it arrived it was almost a revolution in its group. Because although the console was play station 2 but it provided a whole lot more graphical supports for the players.
This is really driving simulator, more than 700 cars added to this game, and I like the B-Spec. You can play for 24hours endurance, or switch it to B-Spec mode, and you must to train your driver to driving consistently..
One of the greatest racing games in history if you ask me.
This had 1080i support and has amazing graphics!
A grate sequel to the first Ratchet and Clank game. But this game topped it with its upgraded weapons and new locations. Awesome game. One of the ps2's best.
Probably one of the best Ratchet and clank games. There is so much to do and its all just so much fun.
The best Ratchet & Clank game made. Fun, funny, and satisfying.
Why is ratchet and clank up your arsenal on this list?
That this game isn't in the top 15 at least is a crime. Anyone who knows about this game would agree this is far better game than most (if not all) of the titles above it on this list. This is my second favorite game of all time, and though I certainly don't think it's popular enough to be considered the best it should just be way higher. Fact.
I was angry to see both great metal gear games so low, but I am even angrier to see okami so low. The references to Japanese ghost stories, the cel-shaded graphics, the incredible soundtrack. This game might not have the best gameplay, and presentation, but it exceeds at everything else.
The only reason this game is so low on the leaderboards is because it is not very well know. If I had enough money I would buy the entire world this game. It is also the only video game with a sad enough ending to make me cry.
Such a beautiful game. Such a poor rank.
This game deserve higher rank than this!
The graphic, music, and story is PERFECT!
Whereas every PS1 Tekken game was a bona-fide hit, the series didn't fare as well on the PS2. Tekken Tag Tournament, a launch title, felt less like a true sequel and more like Tekken 3. 5, and Tekken 4 was an aberration in the series that threw away many of the features of the past by including slower gameplay and environments that were walled and tiered. Tekken 5 brought the series back to its roots and nearly perfected the gameplay. With lush matching graphics to boot (the game managed to impress on the PS3, too! ), Tekken 5 is one of the best fighting games of all time.
It's the best fighting game in PlayStation. I love its characters & moves. Easy to learn, not so hard to master and you can't get enough of it.
Very very very good game
Its great... Oh yeah! 11
This game got me to become a fan of DBZ at a young age. I can't thank this game enough; without it, I would have missed out on one of my deepest childhood loves; DRAGONBALL Z.
The second Dragon Ball fighting game I ever owned (the first being Dragon Ball GT Final Bout for the Original PlayStation) I loved this game, but it also gave me a strong dislike for Cell and Cell Games Hardest Difficulty. The only characters I needed were Grandpa Gohan and Kid Goku. Sadly, the game quit working, and my PlayStation 2 is having technical problems. That's sad for me... :( - Gehenna
I have this on wii but I love still this game. I love dbz games.
Jak 3 gives me a feeling of freedom in middle of a big war where you just can race trough the desert. You need to pay attention to the story line, 'cause in this game, a lot of secrets get revealed
As good as the second was, this topped it.
Best jak game
