I think Charizard is cool because it's mega x evolution is epic, that is why the blue and black combination is fantastic and the blue fire as well and he does fantastic against the gym leaders at Kanto with Greninja.
He is one of the most well known pokemon, besides Pikachu, who is also liked by almost everybody who know that he's a pokemon, not including his lower evolutions, Charmander and Charmeleon.

Eevee and his/her evolutions are awesome! Also, he/she is very adorable. Why is he/she number 5? People pick other pokemons like Charizard and Pikachu because they are one of the main pokemon. People don't pick Eevee because they think he/she is very weak. They don't understand how awesome Eevee and his/her evolutions are.
Out of currently 809 Pokemon, Eevee is my favorite. It always was and always will be. Eevee is what got me interested in Pokemon. You're better than every Pokemon from Bulbasaur to Melmetal.

Absol
Absol is a Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It is known for its ability to sense disasters, which has led to its reputation as a harbinger of misfortune. Absol gained a Mega Evolution in Pokémon X and Y, as well as in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
Absol is so mysterious, its kinda quiet it sorta represents me if one pokemon were to resemble my personality its this.

Personally, my favorite dark type, its OK, in battle, and can be pretty deadly, and it also has a pretty simple, but awesome design.

Lucario I don't awesome. His stats are super high and he is the strongest non-legendary I've had on my team in any Pokemon game. He looks so cool too. That's why he's my favorite
Lucario is special to me because he is somehow able to look adorable yet dangerous at the same tume, plus his mega evolution can't be topped. Its just so cool!
Honestly, Lucario is the go-to pokemon when you're stuck and has great stats. It'll hit its opponent hard with its aura sphere

Best mon ever. Mew is cute but fierce. Is great in battle and I loved the first movie and the mystery of mew. If it was optanible in the games I'm sure it could make a great mascot for pokemon

Darkrai
Darkrai, known by the same name in Japan, is a Dark-type Mythical Pokémon that debuted in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It is known for its ability to induce nightmares in others. Darkrai was also featured in the movie Pokémon: The Rise of Darkrai, where it played a central role.
Darkrai is the coolest Pokemon and is an extremely powerful dark type Pokemon and is also a legendary. My favorite Pokemon should be way higher on the list.

Vaporeon

My first ever holographic card as a kid and my favorite pokemon because it was blue and a water type. Later, I discovered through battles that my superficial reasons to like it were still completely valid through its strengths as well. My all time favorite.
Vaporeon definitely needs a higher spot on this list. I love this cute, brave, and awesome Eeveelution. It's also from Gen 1, which is a bonus. Don't call me a genwunner, Gens 2 and 3 were also great but the first appeals to me more. Overall, Vaporeon is an amazing water-type (one of my favorites! ) Pokemon.
