Best Rock Songs of the 60s from English Artists
A speed up Blues riff. For 1964 pretty heavy. Hard rock riffs begins here.
Every now and again, a band will hit
upon a progression that can't help but drive itself. Every other now and then, a band will assemble a piece that is particularly yet inexplicably haunting. This was both, with the added icing of the 30-or-so seconds that made Merry Clayton famous.
This is my absolute #1 from the 60s.
Need a judgement call from the list maker: Jimi Hendrix Experience; Mitchell and Redding were Brits; first two albums were cut in England, and band became popular there before in US. What say you?
Had it been up to McCartney, this song would have been played at dirge tempo, and would have been just Paul solo, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. George Martin (RIP genius) convinced him to speed it up, and added the strings and woodwinds.
Gotta say, never liked Bowie much. Too weird. Thought "Fame" was his best work. Found out later that Lennon wrote it. Then it made sense.
While this is a cover, like so many of the Beatles' covers in the earlier days, it's better than the original. (Apologies to the Isleys.)
Better than the " Isley Brothers "? You're crazy!
This song has been covered by many artists but that's the original from 1960
I always thought it was their song, have just read that it was a cover... never mind, it's the most well known version anyway!
The fact that "You Really Got Me" is #1 was already a good sign, just wanted to add this one
Ah, yes! My favourite on this list.
