Top Ten Songs that Were Number One on the Austrian Ö3 Charts on August 22nd Since 1996

Martin_Canine
I was born on August 22nd, 1996. So I thought it would be interesting to look what was THE hit song in my area whenever I had birthday. Of course, I didn't actively listen to music until I was a couple of years old, but nevertheless, the results aren't really surprising to me.
Now naturally, in every year there has got to be a song that's number one on the charts on this particular day, whether it's only for a week or over the span of three months. It's interesting to see how some of these songs stuck around to become well known classics, while others are already somewhat forgotten.

3 Killing Me Softly - Fugees

Number one in 1996 - so it was really number one on the day I was born.
Topped the Austrian charts from July 28th to September 7th, then again from September 15th to 21st. - Martin_Canine

4 Big Girls Don't Cry - Fergie

Hearing the neat and well performed pop music Fergie's first album had to offer, I am even more disappointed of the mediocre and not at all memorable material of her anticipated second solo record. I mean, seriously: were there any songs like this? - Martin_Canine

Number one in 2007
Topped the Austrian charts from August 17th to September 13th. - Martin_Canine

The Contenders

12 Ghetto Superstar (This Is What You Are) - Pras Michel, Ol' Dirty Bastard & Mýa

This is the only song that surprises me. Back in the late 90s to the mid-to-late 2000s, American hip hop was kind of popular in the Austrian charts as well (that was the peak of music channels such as MTV Germany or VIVA, who aired such music unlike the radio) but this one song was actually pretty obscure to me. While other chart topping US hip hop songs such as "Gangsta's Paradise" or "I'll Be Missing You" in the meantime do get airplay, this one was kind of forgotten. - Martin_Canine

Number one in 1998
Topped the Austrian charts from August 2nd to 8th, then again from August 16th to 22nd, then again from September 6th to 12th. - Martin_Canine

13 Rising Girl - Rising Girl

Number one in 2005
Topped the Austrian charts from August 7th to 27th. - Martin_Canine

14 Blue (Da Ba Dee) - Eiffel 65

Number one in 1999
Topped the Austrian charts from August 22nd to October 9th. - Martin_Canine

Pro:
-the piano melody in minor, the overall theme and catchy chorus make this a classic in the eurodance genre, one of my favorite styles of music.
Contra:
-back in 1999, the autotune must have sounded mind blowingly futuristic, but seems a bit... or rather very much out of control nowadays.

I'll still lean towards the "pro" side, I like it. - Martin_Canine

15 Follow Me - Uncle Kracker

Number one in 2001
Topped the Austrian charts from August 12th to 25th. - Martin_Canine

16 All Summer Long - Kid Rock

I never got why Kid Rock got so much hate. Then again, I don't know many of his songs other than this one. This was his big hit over here, the song that made him famous, although he never had any other popular song again. But this song still gets a lot of radio airplay.
While it does heavily sample "Sweet Home Alabama" (maybe that was the reason for the negative response? ), it also has nice lyrics about nostalgia, and doesn't harm anybody. - Martin_Canine

Number one in 2008.

Topped the Austrian charts from June 20th to August 28th. - Martin_Canine

17 I Gotta Feeling - The Black Eyed Peas

Number one in 2009.

18 We No Speak Americano - Yolanda Be Cool

Number one in 2010
Topped the Austrian charts from August 6th to September 23rd. - Martin_Canine

19 Danza Kuduro - Don Omar & Lucenzo

Gosh, I remember this one. This song annoyed the hell out of me in 2011 to an extent I could barely handle it anymore when the song was on the radio, and they played it several times a day. I can't even tell why I despised it so much more than other similarly sounding songs of the time, as looking at it objectively, it's just mediocre not terrible, but even now I still get the same negative vibes listening to it. Thankfully, the song didn't stick around to become a modern day classic. - Martin_Canine
