Top Ten Most Embarrassing States in the United States

You ever hear stereotypes on how the US is always terrible? These stereotypes are often because of what people in certain notable states end up doing. And because of these people, outsiders and others tend to generalize who we are based off of those people.

The Top Ten
  1. Michigan

Michigan is a state in the Great Lakes and Midwestern regions of the United States. It is the only state composed of two peninsulas and is bordered by four of the five Great Lakes. Michigan is a major center of the U.S. automotive industry, with Detroit historically known as the Motor City.

I no longer think of Oregon or even New York as bad states anymore. Michigan has some issues like the famous Flint water scandal and tons of crime in Detroit.

Also this list is apparently my most popular and I suspect it to be vote botting. When I put Texas near the top it was constantly voted on daily, and when I changed my original remix all of a sudden Alabama is the one which got votes daily.

Detroit is pretty awful. Rest of the state is crumbling, depressed towns. Too bad a lot of the state is beautiful and wooded with nice lakes

  2. Oregon

Oregon is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada.... read more

Well this is probably a big surprise to some of you. Oregon apparently is a hipster capital, and these guys are always crying about things the government does. In a way it's more embarrassing than it really is.

Born and raised in Oregon. Lived here for over 50 years, but can’t wait to get out of here. The state itself is beautiful, but the state representatives and people are disgusting. Portland has turned into one big homeless camp where all business doorways smell like urine and have bums sleeping in them every night. They spend all of their road repair money on green paint for the roads they turn into bike lanes. Last time I checked, Ike’s don’t pay a road use tax. I am embarrassed to tell people I’m from Oregon

  3. Alabama

Alabama is a state in the southeastern region of the United States. It is bordered by Tennessee to the north, Georgia to the east, Florida and the Gulf of Mexico to the south, and Mississippi to the west. The state played a central role in the American civil rights movement during the 20th century.

Alabama is very often seen as the most racist state, though having been there I can definitely say things have calmed down quite a bit. Still, it's got its history, it's the birthplace of the Confederacy, it's where lots of Civil Rights moments happen, and of course it still has it's Southern population.

Incest jokes, poverty, missing teeth and overalls, missing chromosomes too

  4. California

California is a state in the Southwestern United States. With 39.6 million residents across a total area of about 163,696 square miles (423,970 square kilometers), California is the most populous U.S. state and the third largest by area. The state capital is Sacramento, and the largest city is Los Angeles.... read more

Another douchey move is the way you hyperbole "misuse of pronouns is apparently a felony". That ONLY applies to employees of long term health care facilities. So basically it's protecting the sick and the elders from abuse. Did you even look into it or are just parroting some right wing source? But anyways, you wouldn't care about the sick and the old from a "liberal" state like California right? Yeah and also nice timing with this list.

I think people seem to be missing the point, he never mentioned anything about the wildfires and isn't trying to come off as douchey. He's just trying to state why he thinks this state is embarrassing, and apparently that's too much to do a opinion site? Jesus Christ... I'm going to need a lot of bleach and water to get through some of these comments...

  5. Massachusetts

Massachusetts, officially the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is the most populous state in New England, a region in the northeastern United States. It is known for its significant colonial history, prestigious universities, and major technology, finance, and healthcare industries. The capital, Boston... read more

Honestly the only thing that Mississippi has going for it is it's extravagant name. That's it. That's basically embarrassing in itself. There's nothing of importance in Mississippi at all, it's largest city Jackson doesn't even have anything going for it, and of course it's a Southern state. More importantly, it is the fattest state in the US.

I would still love to visit Mississippi one day and judge for myself. I imagine it's a lovely, welcoming place, full of equally lovely people.

Worst state. Poorest state in terms of GDP Per Capita and I heard it's pretty racist. Even has the Confederate battle flag as a part of it's state flag.

  7. Florida

Florida is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. It is the southeasternmost U.S. state, with the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Gulf of Mexico on the other. Florida is known for its warm climate, tourism industry, and diverse population.

You've probably seen a meme called "Florida Man Strikes Again", which I believe first was introduced because of that one guy in Miami who acted like a zombie and was eating another guy. There's a lot of things that happen in Florida, bad weather, very bad people (many of whom are rednecks), as well as the nightclub shooting and recent high school shooting still fresh in the minds of many people.

Most embarrassing? Its Florida! Of course its Florida! Its more embarrassing than the other top 9 put together. Florida is like if the Darwin awards were a state. I like Miami and the Keys, but the further north you go, the further south you get.

  8. Texas

Texas is a state in the southern United States. It is the second largest by both area and population. Its largest city is Houston, and the state's economy is diverse, including energy, technology, agriculture, and aerospace. It is also known for its hot weather, which can reach around 100 °F in many... read more

Everything's bigger in Texas, especially the embarrassment. There's even more Southerner-style people here than in Florida, although surprisingly there's not a whole lot of bad things in comparison to Florida or California. Still, the rudeness isn't as justifiable at times.

Nothing but racist white people (not that all whites are racists, of course)

Goodness gracious, it elected the Zodiac Killer for crying out loud!

  9. New Jersey

New Jersey is a state in the northeastern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered to the north and east by New York, to the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, to the west by Pennsylvania, and to the southwest by Delaware. It has one of the highest population densities in... read more

Something recent I found out about New Jersey, especially the Paterson area, their schools are definitely struggling. Been doing research into my career field of teaching. And especially why so many teachers are quitting or resigning. Part of it is the students, but the stronger answer is how bad administration is at handling issues.

I'm not saying that NJ is the epicenter for this, but it is weird how most of what I heard comes from NJ teachers, especially how close it is to NY and the New England area where the best schools are located. I'm sure the education issues persist in other states, especially the South.

Highest auto insurance rates in the nation for a reason. Olde infrastructure, generally poor city planning throughout. Newark is 2nd only to Detroit in 'hell on earth status.' If New York is Bad, Northern New Jersey is the dregs of all that crap. They're a bunch of dicks because they are considered last place in all the places you can be in the Tri-state area. Stupid-high taxes for what you get. Dumb gun laws that encourage high crime rates. "Give the guns to the bad guys, they're probably disadvantaged yutes."

  10. Arkansas

Arkansas is a state located in the southeastern region of the United States. Its name is of Siouan derivation, denoting the Quapaw Indians. Arkansas features diverse geography, including mountains, forests, and the Mississippi River.

What's actually embarrassing about New York is that no one talks about anything New York related without referring to just New York City. The entire rest of the state is almost never really mentioned. And surprisingly, the vast majority of the state is also Republican! Yeah, but the Democrats usually still win since New York City, the overpopulated mess that it is, has significantly more people voting in it. Crazy how that goes. And of course, both presidential candidates were from New York itself.

New York City is getting more dangerous, awful politics. Upstate is cold and depressing

  16. Colorado

Alaska is a classic example of an embarrassing state that you can even read about its embarrassment in a US history book. Ever heard of Seward's Folly? That was Alaska. It's huge but mostly barren, it's got a rather bad crime rate, and what else?

Alaska has a the smallest population but a giant crime rate drunk hill billies

Nothing but a bunch of dudes standing around looking for something to do when they’re not busy trying not to die at their day jobs.

  18. Arizona

Arizona is a U.S. state in the southwestern region of the United States. It is also part of the Western and the Mountain states. Arizona is known for its desert climate, the Grand Canyon, and its rapidly growing urban centers like Phoenix and Tucson.

Arizona's honestly a nasty state. It's got a crime rate, incredibly hot temperatures over the summer, and people only pay attention to it just because it has the Grand Canyon and nothing else. Liberals obviously hate John McCain too.

  19. Washington

Washington is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States, located north of Oregon, west of Idaho, south of the Canadian province of British Columbia, and along the Pacific Ocean.
