Top 10 Scariest Enemies In Mario Games

This top 10 list is about Mario enemies that could frighten us the most in our nightmares. WARNING: These enemies really are scary. So before you go to bed tonight, hope that you can face your fears by looking through this list. No bosses included.
The Top Ten
Phanto (Super Mario Bros 2)

It haunts your darkest imaginations! This giant mask with its evil grin is the ultimate stalker. If you have its key, it will track you down to get it back. Even if you're a million miles away from the Phanto, it will find you!

Those scary masks are even scarier in Super Mario Advance. The Phantos look different in Advance. If you don't get what I'm saying, look at the comparison between All-Stars and Advance.

The Mad Piano (Super Mario 64)

How is this not #1? Out of nowhere, a piano starts screaming at you and jumping around trying to eat you. This and Phanto scare me the most.

Mr. I (Super Mario 64)

This is a giant eyeball that will never keep its eye off of you. It will stare at you without blinking. It's more terrifying when it shoots beams out of its pupil! It is like an alien from another world. Since there are many of them, you're being watched all the time.

Grim Leecher (Yoshi's Island)

This horrifying ghost is best described as the symbol of death. The skull on its face makes it even scarier. It will chase you and attempt to latch onto you. You definitely do not want this enemy to sneak up on you.

Dry Bone (Super Mario Bros 3) Dry Bones is a common enemy species in the Super Mario series of video games since „Super Mario Bros. 3“ (1988). After his first debut as a playable character in „Mario Superstar Baseball“ (2005), he became a fan-favorite and also got playable in other spin-offs of the Mario series.

They are like zombies. They're undead Koopa skeletons that keep reviving after every stomp. Sounds like something that came out of a horror movie.

Boohemoth (New Super Mario Bros 2)

The biggest Boo is the scariest. It is truly humongous! Just like any other Boo, it will only follow you if you look away from it. But unlike any other Boo, this gigantic terrifying ghost can crush you against the wall!

Swooper (Super Mario World)

They live underground and fly like bats. They are even scarier in the dark, especially with their glowing eyes.

Underhand (Super Paper Mario)

It's a hand in a death river. Do I need to go on?

Pidgit (Super Mario Bros 2)

This flightless crow is known as the bringer of bad dreams. Since it can't fly, it uses its flying carpet to swoop down and attack.

Mimi (Super Paper Mario)

Super Paper Mario is by far my favorite Mario game, but Mimi terrifies me. The way her neck cracks and eyes turn big as she's transforming is really disturbing. She then sprouts mechanical-looking spider legs from her upturned face, which only has a mouth. Her body hangs limp from her neck. Yeah, she still scares me.

The Newcomers

? Snoodle (Super Mario Galaxy 2)
? Spiky Stretch Plant (Super Mario Galaxy 2)
The Contenders
Hot Foot (Super Mario Bros 3)

It may light up the dark, but it's no night-light. It will sneak up on you when you look away from it.

Komboo (Super Mario Odyssey)
Unagi (Super Mario 64)
Eerie (Super Mario World)

It is a spooky ghost found in haunted houses. There are sometimes packs of them, and they can fly in wobbly lines.

Gringill (Super Mario Galaxy & Sequel)

When I played the games as a kid, I never wanted to play the water stages whenever I saw the Gringills. Since I found out I had to deal with them to 100% both games, I got pissed but did it anyway. The first time I saw one though, I threw up. If you talk about Gringills today, they're scarier than Pennywise.

Eel (Super Mario 64)
Ninji (Super Mario Bros 2)

This is a small black creature that attacks like a ninja. Its fangs make it look scarier!

Chain-Chomp (Super Mario Bros. 3) Chain Chomps, known as Wanwan in Japan, are metal, barking ball-and-chain like creatures that are restrained by Chains and are a main enemy in the Mario franchise.
Bubba (Super Mario Sunshine)
Chain Chomp (Super Mario 64) Chain Chomps, known as Wanwan in Japan, are metal, barking ball-and-chain like creatures that are restrained by Chains and are a main enemy in the Mario franchise.

These were made because of Miyamoto's nightmares. (Sorry if I didn't spell his name properly.) Thanks for making your nightmares go into ours. (It's just a dog.)

New Player: Think this will be as easy as the first level in Mario games. Punch a Goomba, collect a coin, do whatever. Let's move on. A bomb. Oh no! Let's run away.

Onk Onk

AHHH!

BOOM!

Player dies.

Goomba (Fan Art) Goombas, known in Japan as Kuribo, are a species of sentient mushrooms from Nintendo's Mario franchise.
Cheep Chomp (Super Mario 64)
Thwomp (Super Mario Bros. 3)

The old design of the Thwomp looks horrifying for some reason.

Unagi Eel (Super Mario Odyssey)
Eerie Staircase (Luigi's Mansion)

Holy crap, this must have been the nightmare fuel of many childhoods. His roar was legit enough to make you close your 3DS when playing this game.
