Top Ten Underrated Sports In the United States

The Top Ten

1 Surfing Surfing Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer towards the shore.

I feel skeptical

2 Archery Archery Archery is the sport, practice or skill of using a bow to propel arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus.
3 Synchronised Swimming Synchronised Swimming

Combination of swimming and dancing in water whilst holding your breath and throwing people up the water

4 Softball Softball

More than half of the girls I went to High School with played softball. The basic definition of this sport is female baseball. It's overrated. - Rpemk

Softball is the best sport. It is sooo overlooked! And why is soccer and basketball on the list? Everyone plays soccer these days. In conclusion softball is the most underrated sport.

5 Bowling Bowling

I personally am a amateur youth bowler and the community is great! I would definitely recommend it if you have money to play the sport! PS start saving money if you want a bowling ball that works for you and seek out good coaches and pro shop owners in you're looking to do this profesionally! A good group a friends is good too for team events in tournaments!

This is one of those sports that's more fun to play than to watch.

I wanna bowling but mommy wont let me and I'm so sad I'm makingher a tape rn! - hannah bakerr

6 Baseball Baseball Baseball is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of nine players each who take turns batting and fielding.

Hard to hit the ball

Bren it’s literally Americas pastime it ain’t underrated - AwesomeJawson

Nothing like America's pastime - Jonerman

7 Cheerleading Cheerleading

It is hard and no one ever agrees with you when you tell them. We practice 24/7 and no one appreciates us

We definitely deserve to b up there we work non stop and unlike all other sports we don’t hit or carry a ball, or run up and down a court or feild we have to lift actual people without killing them or ourselves, we have to do gravity defying flips and on top of all that we have to preform and make it look easy. in cheer you don’t get another chance, penalties, or subs, u have one chance to b perfect. if you break your arm in the middle of a rutein you have to preform like nothing’s wrong you don’t get a sub.

I'm sure if you broke your arm in the middle of a routine you wouldn't get up a go on like nothing's wrong. That's a bit of an exaggeration if you ask me. - SassyEquine

8 Swimming Swimming Swimming is an individual or team sport and activity. Competitive swimming is one of the most popular Olympic sports, with events in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

No one cares about swimmers accept other swimmers and I think swim should be number one on the list.

It’s very hard and no one understands how hard it is. It may be hyped but no one understands the work they think it is EASY.

It's so hard to swim good and no one believes that.

Its always hyped on the olympics so not really underrated

9 Running Running Running is a method of terrestrial locomotion allowing humans and other animals to move rapidly on foot. Running is a type of gait characterized by an aerial phase in which all feet are above the ground.

Specifically cross country, has many factors in order to succeed. Unlike all other sports, nobody is there to cheer you on while trying to finish the grueling 3.1 miles in the heat. Nobody else can relate to the sore muscles, the feeling of not being able to finish, or knowing that we can train up to 8 miles in a single day. And yet we are still treated like trash. Many people may not understand, but cross country IS a sport as well. Just because we do not have a ball to score with or a bat to hit with does NOT make this sport easy. So if anybody here still has a problem with this sport, Try finishing a sub 15 minute 5k, because it is much harder than you think to endure a sub 5 minute mile pace, as it also is completing up to 8 miles in a single day for training, not to mention the high risk of cardiovascular arrest, the number one reason of deaths among athletes aged 12 - 22. So I ask everybody to just think twice about what it really takes to truly deal with a sport like this.

In cross country, you must endure so much without the break other sports have. Although you do have a team there with you to help support you, you are all on your own to run for miles trying to maintain an impossible pace while trying not to give up or pass out after seeing people pass you. Also, I have never seen ambulances and having people pass out at other sports games as a usual and every game thing.

I know for a fact nobody taking any other sport besides long distance running can complete daily 8 - 10 mile workouts. (Without stopping lol)

Training is MUCH harder than you think.

10 Gymnastics Gymnastics Gymnastics is a sport involving the performance of exercises requiring strength, flexibility, balance and control.

Baseball, ice hockey, soccer, and golf are not underrated. At least not compared to ice skating, badminton, and gymnastics.

Some people say gymnastics isn't a sport, it's more of a sport than any other sport. It is very intense and one of the hardest sports (of course all sports are super hard, but gymnastics is another level). It is also the only sport I mind watching, more people should watch itl

Gymnastics is like the hardest sport, and people think it's easy. One practice for youth gymnastics is 4 to 5 hours for 4-5 days a week. Most people would break after one practice. No one is born with genes that help them with gymnastics, they have to earn it.

The Contenders

11 Ping Pong Ping Pong Ping-pong, or table tennis, is a sport where players hit a lightweight ball back and forth across a table.

Its fun most people just haven't had the chance to try it

12 Tennis Tennis Tennis is a racket sport that can be played individually against a single opponent or between two teams of two players each.
13 Lacrosse Lacrosse Lacrosse is a contact team sport played between two teams using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse or lacrosse stick.

Lacrosse is a contact team sport played on a field, in which two teams use a small rubber ball and long handled sticks to score in the opponent's goal.

Lacrosse looks easy but trust me honey, it’s not. It takes a long time to get good at.

14 Badminton Badminton Badminton is a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net. Although it may be played with larger teams, the most common forms of the game are "singles" and "doubles".

The badminton shuttle on average travels faster than a tennis ball!

Badminton is definitely underrated because people compare it to tennis and say it is easier (since replace tennis racquets and balls with something lighter) but it requires a ton of skill, agility, fast reflexes, and speed!

15 Fencing
16 Ice Hockey Ice Hockey Ice hockey is a contact team sport played on ice, usually in a rink, in which two teams of skaters use their sticks to shoot a vulcanized rubber puck into their opponent's net to score points.

Ok really what is baseball on the top ten? I like the sport but it's not underrated. Hockey, I think should be more popular than it is. Much better than standing, slapping a ball with a stick, running, and occasionally making a couple catches.

Why the hell is this not in the top 10. Hockey is a hella underrated sport.

17 Figure Skating Figure Skating Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in 1908. The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance.

Figure Skating isn’t even considered a sport to some people which breaks my heart because it’s a very complicated sport requiring not only physical but also mental strength and a lot of dedication, perseverance, and drive.

18 Water Polo

Best sport ever

Water polo is like basket ball soccer and swimming put together because it basically is a soccer field in a swimming pool. You have to pass and carry a volleyball and your feet cannot touch the pool floor. It looks hard but it's very hard

I play it as a sport. It's really hard because you have to make unnatural body movements. It's very underrated.. :(

Water polo is such a fun sport! It’s like soccer and swimming together what’s not to like!

19 BMX Racing
20 Ultimate Frisbee Ultimate Frisbee
21 Horseback Riding Horseback Riding Horseback riding (or Equestrian) is one of the most intense sports known to man. Not only because it's physically challenging, but it takes more than athleticism. Horseback riding takes commitment, time, patience, and most importantly building a bond with your horse. If you don't have a good relationship more.

I have found that my core strength and posture have greatly improved after a few years of horseback riding. It strengthens your muscles and requires a lot more strength and energy than you would think.

My idiots of friends tell me every day "Horseback Riding is easy, you just sit there and let the horse do all the work, it is not a sport."
People think just because of the saddle you just sit there the whole time. I decided to teach classmates a lesson by making them come to the barn and post for a whole hour with some little no stirrup two points thrown in there as well. They never said anything offensive about horseback riding ever again. If you are getting picked on, tell them "Have you ever been brave enough to trust an unpredictable animal? To ever have one tiny mistake to possibly lead to death? Have you ever had the courage to communicate to an animal in silence? You babies with your safety nets and timeouts. Us fearless riders have non of those luxuries."

If you are a non-equestrian please consider what I am telling and don't ever tell one of us equestrians we are not athletes. Horse Back Riding takes much time and effort, and for people to be underestimating us ...more

This sport is definitely the most underrated. I don't care what y'all think, almost nobody at my school considers it a sport and I find myself lecturing people on how it is a sport every day. - SassyEquine

22 Dodgeball
23 Squash

This sport requires people to be tip-top athletic as it is fast-paced and extremely fun.

24 Skateboarding Skateboarding Skateboarding is an action sport which involves riding and performing tricks using a skateboard. Skateboarding can also be considered a recreational activity, an art form, a job, or a method of transportation.
25 Cricket Cricket Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a cricket field, at the centre of which is a rectangular 22-yard-long pitch with a wicket, a set of three wooden stumps sited at each end.

Common in many other countries, but we don't hardly ever here about it here in the U.S. - Rpemk

Best sport and is the most popular in the world. American football also stole it's name.

Best sport in the US currently

I love the sport but it is kind of overrated

I like it myself, but I would consider soccer to be overrated rather than underrated in the United States. Although, if you compare it to American football, then sure, it is underrated. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

32 Golf Golf Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls into a series of holes from a range of 80 to 600 yards on a course in as few strokes as possible.

For the people that think that golf is not a sport, golf is a game that requires physical activity, you can win or lose just like any other sport, it may have some unique features, but golf is still a sport.

Excuse me but you are saying that the Masters means nothing to the history of sports?

Not a sport. - Rpemk

You might want to look at the description for this item... And I don't even like golf. - ModernSpongeBobSucks

33 Mini Golf

It is a fun sport that you have a mini golf club and race your friend in less strokes and it is cheaper than normal golf and you don't have to get a whole bag of clubs.
