Best Years for Horror Movies

josamaroo
This is a list of the best years for horror movies. Everyone knows the 80's was probably the best decade for horrorr but you may be surprised by some individual years that started horror film renaissance's, reboots, and reinvention. The year the horror film had its wide theatrical or Straight-to-Home video release is the year it's included under. Also some films I included may be classified as Science Fiction or Fantasy but they all have elements of Horror so I included them.

Most fans of horror know that the 1990's was a time of change for the genre and horror movies were more suspense than horror. I feel 1999 was the greatest year of the 90's because it had a little bit of everything plus it was the year of The Blair Witch which once again reinvented the horror genre. Sorry I left off 1996 and the year of Scream but it only had a few good films. - josamaroo

Probably the year with the most slasher films, 1981 was another fantastic year for horror. It surpassed the year 1980, which brought us Friday the 13th and The Shining, due to The Evil Dead and American Werewolf coming out in 1981. - josamaroo
