Top 10 Best JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Characters

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a story about the Joestar family, with each generation possessing unique and special traits. Here is a list of the best characters from this eight-part series.
The Top Ten
Joseph Joestar Joseph Joestar is a fictional character from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga series created by Hirohiko Araki.

The main character of Part 2 and an important character in Part 3, Joseph Joestar is a very smart, kind, and powerful person. He defeated the ultimate life form by sending him to space (note Part 2 takes place during World War 2). He mastered Hamon, a martial art that lets you harness sunlight-like power (which later is forgotten after Part 2 for Stands, but it's still cool!).

He also is powerful with his Stand from Part 3, Hermit Purple, which allows him to predict the future, look for certain things by slamming it against a camera, and even swing around. He is also well known for guessing what people will say exactly right before they say it.

Jean Pierre Polnareff

An important supporting character in part three, Polnareff is one of the most developed characters of this arc. After his only living relative (his little sister) was murdered and... you know. He vowed revenge by using his Stand, Silver Chariot, a knight-like robot that is fast enough to form afterimages and is also quite capable with its rapier sword.

Polnareff is a smart fighter and quite clever, but he is extremely hot-headed. Because of this, two other friends of his died in the final battle trying to save him. But in the end, Polnareff is always willing to help his friends and, of course, avenge them. (He also becomes disabled in part 5, but oh well.)

Jotaro Kujo Jotaro Kujo is a fictional character from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga series created by Hirohiko Araki and is the delinquent protagonist of Stardust Crusaders .

Of course, there is nothing to say about that cool, awesome, amazing, fantastic, badass JoJo. His nerves of steel add even more coolness to him. He is so smart also that he quickly figured a way to prove that the ship sailor (Imposter Captain Tennille) is an evil Stand user.

While all the crusaders didn't last except for only a couple of minutes in front of DIO, Jotaro defeated DIO. When DIO asked him whether he could see him during the stopped time or not, Jotaro replied, "Who knows?" which added to his coolness level even more. What makes him even cooler is his quote: "Yare yare daze."

Dio Brando Dio Brando is a fictional character from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga series created by Hirohiko Araki. His name was inspired by musician Ronnie James Dio and movie star Marlon Brando.

Dio Brando is both the original villain of Part One and returns 100 or so years later in Part 3. As a vampire, he desires everything, especially the world. His Stand can freeze time and is capable of keeping up with Star Platinum in a fistfight. He also has vampire powers, such as shooting lasers out of his eyes and freezing his own limbs as well as those of others. He's cold-hearted, manipulative, deadly, and more.

The influence this guy had on EVERY part is wild. An extremely cool villain with extremely badass powers. From his evil craziness to his calmer and calculated demeanor.

I love every part of this man.

Yoshikage Kira Yoshikage Kira is the main antagonist from the manga JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable written by Araki Hirohiko.

The villain of Part 4, Kira, only wants two things in life: to live a peaceful life and kill women. He is calculating and deadly, with his Stand Killer Queen being able to blow up people. He was even able to steal someone's identity in a similar way to that one movie, Face/Off.

He's not someone to be alone with.

Lowkey my favorite villain in the series. I really love how he's someone who could very well be around you, or even your neighbor. He's the most three-dimensional villain and deserves a higher spot!

Probably one of the most compelling and diabolical villain concepts I've seen in any type of media. Also, his Stand is probably my favorite.

He looks like David Bowie!

Robert E.O. Speedwagon

There was a time when Jonathan had no one except Speedwagon and had to fight his brother. Speedwagon was originally a bad guy but then became good and was actually an amazing sidekick, especially when you think about emotional support.

I love how he was by Jonathan's side.

Why is this legend so low on the list? Speedwagon is the greatest anime character of all time. Change my mind if you can!

Speedwagon is not only the best JoJo character, in my opinion, but the best anime character of all time.

Josuke Higashikata Josuke Higashikata is a fictional character from the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga series created by Hirohiko Araki.

Josuke isn't my favorite JoJo (Joseph beats him in entertainment) but I think he is by far the best overall. He has it all: kindness, loyalty to his friends, a great Stand, and is a badass on top.

He is one of the most three-dimensional JoJos we have seen and generally a great person.

Josuke - he's got the power, the wit, and a killer personality to boot. Josuke is the most well-balanced JoJo - having all the coolness of Jotaro, the sense of humor of Joseph, and the good heart of Jonathan.

Araki couldn't be more correct about Josuke being his favorite.

Jonathan Joestar

A sweet, gentle young man with the strength of ten men, Jonathan acts like a true gentleman and is especially notable as the first Joestar to start the series. He is considered boring by some, but in my opinion, he was the one that made me adore JJBA in the first place.

Sorry, but he should be one of the tops.

The very first Joestar, Jonathan, was a gentleman and a skilled user of Hamon. He also made friends out of enemies like Josuke, for example, the leader of a street gang named Speedwagon.

Sadly, he was killed by Dio and had his body stolen.

Noriaki Kakyoin

One of the smartest characters from JoJo. If it wasn't for Kakyoin, Dio would still be alive. Despite the fact that his Emerald Splash was kind of useless, Kakyoin's Hierophant Green had a number of useful abilities, which included possession, using paint to attack his enemies (which was only used against Jotaro and never seen again for some reason), and a couple of others. That being said, Kakyoin should at least be in the top five.

Noriaki Kakyoin is a perfect character. He is bold, intelligent, but also light-hearted. He hangs out with Jotaro and isn't stubborn or closed off about his feelings.

He decided to abandon fear near the end of the series. His passion and drive allowed him to be fearless in front of Dio. He was also incredibly smart. So, he's fun, bold, and intelligent - basically a JoJo that wasn't.

Caesar Zeppeli

Oh my lord, I shipped this guy hard with Joseph. He may have been mean and harsh to him, but he loved him deep down. His death was so damn tragic.

Joseph's best friend and fellow Hamon user, Caesar, introduces Joseph to his future Hamon teacher (and long lost mother) Lisa Lisa, and together they train under her. Though they originally didn't get along, they soon became close friends. Unfortunately, Caesar tried to avenge his father by fighting one of the Pillar Men named Wamuu and was killed by being crushed alive. Also, he has bubble powers!

The Newcomers

? Lisa Lisa

Because she's the mother of the best JoJo! She's also so helpful and cares about Joseph.

This lady is fifty, and she's still slaying. Like, bruh, who do you think you are, just walking in looking badass? Hottie.

? Danny Joestar
The Contenders
Bruno Buccellati

Because he is the main JoBro in Part 5, which is a main thing, of course. Plus, he always wanted to do the best for his gang. Besides that, he was the only one and the youngest from "Passione" who had the courage to leave the mafia without the boss's permission.

Great character with a good personality and actual character development throughout Part 5. Also, Sticky Fingers' ability is pretty dope.

Never seen someone have the guts to lick Giorno like that.

Jolyne Cujoh

Come on. It's Jolyne. She's a combination of the best things about all the JoJos - she's got the heart of Jonathan, the badassery of Jotaro, the temper of Josuke, and the perverted yet intelligent personality of Joseph.

She's also got an awesome Stand, which she uses in really clever ways. Plus, she's known for having the best one-liners.

It's a tie between Jolyne and Joseph for me--but since they're so similar in many ways, I'm going to go with Jolyne. She takes the badass factor of Joseph to the extreme (and Stone Free is a cooler Stand than Hermit Purple).

Muhammad Avdol

Avdol is the best boy. He also fulfilled the role of the black man dying first, not once but twice.

Beautiful cinnamon roll, too good for this world.

Koichi Hirose

Fantastic character with one of the best Stands in the entire series.

Koichi really steals? No dignity.

He's the best boy. Need I say more?

Wamuu

He's super respectable, despite being a villain. He has a true warrior's mind and has respect for the people he fights against.

Admirable.

Is it bad I cried more when he died than when Caesar died?

Giorno Giovanna

He's always described as being serene, calm, etc. His entire role is basically to be someone who is slightly ruthless, yet calm and methodical, giving his allies peace of mind and with that, the ability to overcome their problems. This contrasts with Diavolo, who is about as far from peace of mind as you can get.

But that's the problem. Giorno, instead of being the traditional protagonist who has to struggle to achieve his goals and find strength within himself, helps other people find strength within themselves to achieve, well, his goal. It's different, but it makes him a bit static. He's confident in himself and has "peace of mind" from page one.

Gyro Zeppeli

Gyro takes both character aspects of the pre-existing Zeppelis and nails it better than William and Caesar. He is an intelligent teacher for Johnny while also being his best friend. Additionally, he has his own sense of humor, and his motivations for entering the race prove his just mindset.

He's entertaining, badass, smart, smug, supportive, and also sometimes adorable, which makes him the best Jobro and one of the best JoJo characters, and he deserves to be higher.

Gyro is seriously my favorite fictional character ever. Everything about him is perfect, from his overall look, to his Stand, to his relationship with Johnny, to his tsundere attitude towards Hot Pants.

I love Gyro.

Okuyasu Nijimura

He is funny, smarter than he thinks, cheerful, and kind.

He is one of the most interesting and well-rounded characters ever.

What a mad lad, straight up saying that his friend's mom is hot. He is so cute. Get me an Okuyasu.

He's just downright funny. Like, how could you not like Okuyasu!

Sasha Loggins
Rohan Kishibe

At first, when Rohan Kishibe appeared in the manga, I thought he was the kind of guy who tricks other people to his own advantage. And that was exactly what he was doing to Koichi, or even worse. He tricked him, used him, and eventually, slowly took parts of him literally. Since Koichi is my favorite character in DIU so far, I despised Rohan for his selfishness. I think it is appropriate to add that I thought he served well as a minor antagonist considering I hated him.

That changed with his speech about his manga work. As a fan of Bakuman and the whole manga-creating community, I was moved by his dedication to bringing quality work to his readers. I was moved by his opinion on what manga is. I don't doubt that Araki himself infused his own mangaka's determination into Rohan's creative character.

About his stand, well, no words needed. Heaven's Gate is one of the most OP stands in the JoJo Universe. But also, it's the most useful one in the real world.

Iggy

He's the only dog that survived five minutes in the whole JoJo series.

Boingo

Boingo is such a lovable and goofy character but also kind of tragic if you think about him for too long. I have so many questions about him.

Why did Oingo decide that working for DIO and assassinating people for him would be a good way to help raise his brother? Where are their parents? How old even is Boingo? How much death has he seen at his young age? Did he ever meet Mannish Boy? When did he first get his stand? When was his first time getting a future with a death on it? Did he try to prevent it, or did he trust his brother? Why is he so anxious?

I like to think that Hol Horse raises Oingo and Boingo after the events of Part 3.

Hayato Kawajiri

One of the smartest characters.

Shigekiyo Yangu
Johnny Joestar

His level of character development is unparalleled. Johnny starts as "less than zero." He's a contemptuous man without a purpose. Over the course of Steel Ball Run, he finds himself. His quote at the end sums it up perfectly (SPOILER):

"This is a story of revival. How I was literally able to start walking again. And thinking back, I was constantly praying the whole journey. Even this cross-continental race by horse was a journey of prayer. Praying for the weather tomorrow. Praying that when we wake up the next day, there would be a road on land. Praying that we would have food and a place to sleep. Praying our campfire would light. And while these common things would repeat, praying that my friend and horses would be okay. And we crossed each river one by one. Now... I have crossed the final river."
