Top 10 Best Formula 1 Teams of All Time

The Top Ten
  1. Ferrari

Ferrari is the iconic team that everyone's a fan of. While they've had their bad moments, they're the only team that has lasted since the creation of the sport.

They had dominant cars from 2001 to 2004 and ruled the championships during that period. Unfortunately, Ferrari hasn't won a Constructors' Championship since 2007, which they secured because McLaren was disqualified due to Spygate.

Ferrari has had iconic drivers such as Michael Schumacher, Kimi Räikkönen, and Niki Lauda.

In all their seasons in F1, there have only been three times where they finished outside of the top 5 in the constructors' championship.

  2. McLaren

McLaren is a historic team that even went Tooned. That says something. Founded in the 1960s, McLaren's dominance in the late 1980s and early 1990s is well remembered.

In 1988, the dominant MP4/4 won every race except one, a feat that wasn't repeated until 2023 with Red Bull. McLaren is a great team and always has been. They're the current reigning Constructors' Champions after previously going through a downturn.

They've had legendary drivers such as Bruce McLaren himself, Emerson Fittipaldi, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Mika Häkkinen, and even Lewis Hamilton, who began his career with them. McLaren is unforgettably good.

Such an incredible team. They may not have the money of Red Bull or the following of Ferrari, but they have beaten them numerous times with sports' greatest drivers.

    What a team!

  3. Mercedes

Mercedes has had by far the best prime in history, with their dominance in the mid to late 2010s being unstoppable. They won all Constructors Championships from 2014 to 2021 and had seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton win most of his titles with them.

They also had Fangio in their lineup during their original appearance in the 1950s, but the Le Mans disaster prompted them to leave the sport for quite a while. In their return, they've been better than ever.

The best racing team with the best cars.

  4. Lotus

While Prime Lotus's time on the grid has long passed, in the past they won multiple Drivers and Constructors titles with great drivers such as Emerson Fittipaldi and Jim Clark.

Their double return wasn't very successful, but at least Kimi Räikkönen almost drove one of those teams bankrupt. They were never worse than Marussia, Caterham, HRT, Virgin, or any of those backmarker teams.

  5. Red Bull Racing

The team came to life in 2005 and worked their way up to dominance. Although they were set back by Miracle GP in 2009, they dominated the Drivers title for the next four years with Sebastian Vettel. Mark Webber also delivered strong performances.

The team has never been at the back of the field since. They won all but one race in 2023, a year that had many more races than 1988 ever did. Max Verstappen has also been nothing short of legendary.

I never liked Vettel, but I think they're an amazing team. They're cool with the fans and have put themselves in the top 5 of teams with more titles, just in 10 years.

Their current thing with Renault was not very cool, but they're still an awesome team that keeps bringing talent to F1 through Toro Rosso.

  6. Williams Racing

Williams has been a great team in Formula 1 for a long time. The FW14B dominated the grid and brought them championships.

They won titles in the 1980s and 1990s, and when they brought Alain Prost back to Formula 1 in 1993, they didn't disappoint. He won a Drivers title before retiring for good.

Williams unfortunately went into a steady decline, but they were the debut team of great drivers such as 2009 Champion Jenson Button, 2016 Champion Nico Rosberg, and Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas.

They also hold the record for the most points scored in a Formula 1 Grand Prix, after Felipe Massa and Bottas secured a 2nd and 3rd place finish in the double points finale at Abu Dhabi in 2014.

Now, with Alexander Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. in their driver lineup, they're looking to rise back to the top.

  16. Brawn GP

You could just call this team Miracle GP. They existed for one year as a replacement for Honda after they bailed out on the sport in 2008. Even though Honda was a midfield team, Brawn GP won the Drivers and Constructors titles in their one year in the sport.

Jenson Button's career was transformed from mid-tier cars to a championship contender, while Rubens Barrichello had one final good season before his eventual retirement.

They were purchased by Mercedes, who eventually became one of the most dominant teams in the history of motorsport. A true miracle indeed.

  17. Alfa Romeo

Alfa Romeo Automobiles S.p.A. is an Italian luxury car manufacturer, founded by Frenchman Alexandre Darracq as A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) in 1910. Alfa Romeo was the original best team in Formula 1. In 1950, three Alfa Romeo drivers finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the championship.

Alfa Romeo left the sport and became a shadow of themselves, but they were the original best team.

  18. Tyrrell

  19. Haas

F1 fans complain that it's too hard for teams to enter Formula 1. Then the genius of Gene Haas to run it like a NASCAR team where you buy what you can and make what you can't has put them in the midfield right from the start.

Now, F1 fans complain that they're not a true Formula 1 team because they don't make everything themselves. It's a formula that works! Fight on, Haas F1 Team! You're doing great things!

I'm confused, is this the original team or the revived one? But most of them were midfield at best and were mostly underwhelming.

  24. BMW Sauber

During their time in the sport, BMW Sauber were never bad. Their consistent success was overshadowed by Ferrari and McLaren, but we all know about Robert Kubica, who won the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix, and Nick Heidfeld, the most successful driver in the history of Formula 1 without a single win.

  25. Minardi

Backmarker team that made surprising results on a few occasions. If they had more funding, Minardi would probably give top-tier teams of its time a run for their money.

  26. Hesketh

Undoubtedly the coolest F1 team in history. A full white car with not a single sponsor, James Hunt! And let's not forget what the patch on Hunt's racing suit said: "Sex, the breakfast of champions."

As cool as an F1 team will ever get.

  27. British Racing Motors

  28. Matra International

  29. Jaguar
