Top Ten Percy Jackson Heroes of Olympus Characters With the Saddest PastsWho do you think had the saddest past BEFORE THE SERIES?
He has such a terrible past. And his past, unlike a lot of the others, is actually what shaped him and created him.
Let's face it - Nico wouldn't have been as popular as he was today if Bianca had lived. If his past was happy, we wouldn't have liked Nico that much. He wouldn't have become the sad, tortured, lovable, emo boy we know today.
What makes it heartbreaking is how much people stereotype and insult him. Even on the Argo 2, people were making jokes behind his back, and insulting him like it was nothing. Leo and Jason even considered letting him die in MoA. Letting him suffocate in a bronze jar.
Yes, Nico isn't perfect. But that's what draws people to him. That's what's most important and crucial to his character. Nico has had the saddest past out of all of the characters, and no one can ever change my mind.
Leo's past is way worse and Nico is so overrated. I hate him the entire time he is in a books he moans about it life and people love him. Like what the heck why not like someone who does something. EVEN PIPER does more than him. And I already know I'm going to get attacked by Nico lovers. But he is overrated and way too hyped. If you read the books, he is by far the most dull and boring character. Leo and Percy are way better. And Nico doesn't have that sad of a past he just whines about it all the time so people make it seem like it's worse.
I know this asked for saddest past, but I'm gonna have to say his saddest life. It started when his mom died. He was only, what? Six? Then he was bathed in the River of Lethe and taken to the Lotus Hotel And Casino for almost a century! When he was finally found by Percy, he found out the only person in the world who had ever cared about him, Bianca, was going on a dangerous quest where two people would die. Percy promised to protect Bianca, but he came back and told him Bianca was dead. He wanders the Laberynth with only King Minos to lead him. He brings Percy to Hades, even though he loves him, thinking Hades would only ask for information from Percy. He has to go on for years loving Percy when he doesn't love Nico. He is told about Camp Jupiter but can tell no one else. He's there when suddenly Percy, who's been missing for months, shows up with no memory of Nico or really anyone else. He WILLINGLY goes into Tartarus ALONE and sees it the way it truly is. When he finally escapes, ...more
Poor baby, Nico wanted information about his past so bad, he tricked Percy to get information from Hades but didn't get it, when he went to get answers on his own he saw that his mother was destroyed by Zeus, in attempt to kill him and Bianca. Next he and his sister where soaked in the river Lythe, forgetting their past. Nico finds out he's a son of Hades, living a life of not being accepted, and then being feared once he's finally accepted.
I agree with the top three.
Nico--Yes, I cried for him. Everybody was definitely used to seeing Nico dark, gloomy, lonely... but nice in the inside. Just today, I searched some Nico pictures, and all of them had a gloomy face. Then suddenly I recalled the times when Nico was still an optimistic person, wanting to help his friends, and was almost like Leo... every picture seemed like he was saying: "Since Bianca died, I never got to see her again." Gosh I'm gonna cry for him again...
Leo--Leo's past was too painful for everybody to bear. It was impossible for me to not feel bad for him... it was hard to mask your pain with a smiley face everyday. Hera was so evil! Leo was blamed for everything, and even the gods treat him like garbage at first. Nemesis's words stung, and I know how Leo felt. It was just devastating,
Hazel--If a person was bullied at a young age for a long time, they would never understand the true meaning of the joy of youth. Hazel was bullied for a long time ...more
Leo's past has made me cry numerous times. I know Nico's past is sad I agree, but Leo's is depressing to me. Leo's mother died, Hera haunted him when he was young, he was blamed for his mother death, had numerous foster parents, none of those foster parents liked him, he is the seventh wheel, he died and came back to life, and he uses comedy to hide his pain. Leo and Percy are my favorite characters. Leo is an amazing hero and is so brace. His past makes me so sad. He is awesome.
Leo's past is sad. Both in the book AND out of the book. In the book, his mother died, he was sent to many homes while being HAUNTED by the memory of his mother's death. He feels vastly inferior, is blamed for bombing the Roman Demigod's camp, and for God's sake HE WAS THE 'DEATH' THE ORACLE MENTIONED. Isn't it just sad when even the Oracle agrees that you're the spare.
Out of the book, it is even sadder. Not many people seem to acknowledge the true depth of Leo. They just write him off as this overly sassy character. Yeah, Leo is sassy, but underneath is a completely different story. Also, I've seen plenty of posts that include people like Nico and Reyna, but not Leo. And the posts are even titled 'The Seven'?! Like, how do people get that wrong?!
When he was younger he literally killed his mom. It was an accident, but he still wouldn't let himself forget it. Then he was a foster care kid for who knows how long? He's not the saddest, but it's pretty sad.
Hazel is so sad, I mean she sacrificed herself to save the world, and her chance at Elysium so her mom who was awful to her wasn't tortured for eternity, plus she lived in a segregated time and was cursed. The saddest
I don't get why she isn't first. She was forced by a cruel possessed mom to nearly make gaea rise and lived in segregation and sacrificed herself to stop gaea and gave up ellisium for her mom
Hazel had been called a Whitch because she could find Jewels that are cursed! She's been rejected all her life. And Gaia possessed her mother to their deaths. But hazel is a hero she delayed the rise if Gaia and sacrificed herself. Whiteout her Gaia would rise because percy and the others wouldn't be born to stop her. So haters stop
Just like Nico, she was pulled out of time. She was forced by Gea to raise the king of all giants out of the ground, then died. She could have gone to Elysium, but she shared he fault with her mother and went to the Fields of Asphodel instead. But unlike most ghosts, she remembered her past.
His mom constantly fell in trance and predicted horrible things about future while green mist was around her while he was a little kid. Little kids are supposed to rely on their moms but Like was afraid of his, do afraid he hid in the closet. When he was nine he run off and he later felt guilty about it. His dad was also no help at all. He talked to him only once and never did anything to help his mom. But still he found his new family in Thalia and Annabeth and got happy. But then Thalia got turned into a tree and his friendship with Annabeth weakened. And let's face it, god's weren't good, Luke saw that right he only didn't see that titans are worse. He also was going through some dilemma about his cause. Then his body got possessed by Kronos which surely isn't a great feeling. And then he sacrificed himself for the world and died young. His whole life was a tragedy, Ancient Greeks would love him.
Honestly, if you're saying just past, nothing else at all, then Luke is deffinitely the saddest. His mom went crazy when she saw what would happen to Luke, so he ran away. On his way to Camp Half-Blood, he was forced to take Annabeth and Thalia to his home, and see his mother again. Then one of his best friends, Thalia, died. Kronos started whispering to him. He could have been a better person.
Come on guys, how would you feel if your mom would predict horrible things about your future every day? The one time he met his dad, he felt rejected. He went on a quest to find a... golden apple? Was that really important? And got a scar for it. Is that NOT tragic? He had so much trauma in his life, I'm not surprised he joined Kronos!
I agree that Leo Nico and Hazel had it worse, but not Annabeth. Luke had no parental figures in his entire life because basically his mom was insane and it terrified him and I think that's worse than losing your mom. Also, he ran away when he was a kid because of resentment towards his dad who cared for him but he didn't think that, was then tricked away by the bad guy, than got possesed by said bad guy, complete with mind control and forcing him to do things he normally wouldn't do like almost killing ANNABETH which he loves in a brotherely way, than realised he was being evil when he almost killed her, and stabbed himself and died a way more painful death then just normally stabbing yourself because he stabbed himself in his "Achilles heel" and yeah, I think that's about it.
I came here expecting to say Leo instantly and I didn't because Reyna has been shunned and tossed around so much.
-No family (other than her sister who doesn't live near her)
-No love (turned down and left behind by everyone she may have liked)
-Carries a ton of stress (as Praetor, she is singlehandedly responsible for all of New Rome for most of the book series)
Yes, Leo and Frank lost their families. Annabeth ran from her's and has (literally) been through hell with Percy. Nico lost his mother and sister, but the seven + Nico all have friends and love and people to help them and commiserate with. Reyna has to deal with all of that on her own with no one else to even talk to and be responsible for New Rome.
First her father goes insane, then she accidentally kills him, then she makes a new life with her sister on Circe's island only to get kidnapped by Blackbeard, escape Blackbeard but get separated from her sister, join camp Jupiter and become Praetor, fall in love with Jason but then Venus tells her she won't find any demigods to love her, then she loses her chance with Jason cause he loves Piper, then she has to kill her pegasus, travel with coach hedge and face her family ghosts, then Rick "the Troll" Riordan sicks my ship (Reynico) by canonizing Solangelo in Trials of Apollo (hated that book). Oh yeah, and she lived with Octavian. Riordan please help Reyna I nearly cried when I heard everything about her in Blood of Olympus.
I'm sorry, I don't really remember the exact details of her life pre-series, but I'll try. She worked for Circe, and then Percy came and set free all the Pirates that Circe had turned into guinea pigs, who captured Reyna and Hylla. She then found Camp Jupiter and went on a quest with Jason and was told that no demigod would satisfy her heart. Huh, I wonder where that leaves Thalia? (Also, when were there even hints of ThaliaxReyna?)
Reyna dispersed her own father to save her sister, since he was crazy. That's worse than Annabeth had it. Way worse. I can't believe Annabeth is number two!
Rejected by her father when she was born... Blamed by her stepmother for the bad luck... Forbidden by her stepmother to even speak to her brothers, let alone have an emotional bonding... Shunned by her stepmother from letting her daddy save her from her nightmares and protect her from her fears, making her leave the place she tried so hard to make her home... Living alone on the streets, fighting monsters with a hammer with her mother (athena)'s blessings till she found luke and thalia, a family she could call her own, only to save them single-handedly from a cyclops and lose thalia, her best friend, who, in a last stand battle, and sacrificed her life to save her, luke and grover... Protected percy and put her life on the line to keep him safe and never gave up on him or left his side, even if she almost lost him to calypso and rachel... even when he disappeared after he finally became hers, she never gave up on him and searched the world to get him back... Found her lost mother ...more
People only talk about Leo's and Nico's pasts...What about Annabeth?
She was always considered an outcast and misunderstood by those who were supposed to help her. She had no genuine family connections and even Percy underestimates her sometimes...
When she was younger her father would talk about her birth as if it was the most inconvenient thing that ever happened. When she was seven spiders would come in her room and bite her over and over and then dissapear before her stepmother would come in. She deffinitely has a sad story
At least others got home and someone to help them. She is unwanted since she was born, got hated by her step-mom, ran away from home when she was 5, live in the streets and beat monsters with a hammer (with no powers, unlike almost everone else), met Luke and Thalia, but then Thalia got turned into a tree and Luke 'changed' since his golden apple quest and turn into Kronos, then Luke died by her dagger. Hooray.
1) she helps a guy for no reason
2) her family kicked her out
3) and in that guy's story, she doesn't get mentioned ONCE
4) Then she went on a quest to save Artemis even though she knew she would be one of the two to die.
5) oh yeah, and it was her own dad that killed her.
Bob is technically saying hello to his granddaughter...excuse me, I'm going over there to cry now.
1. She was the daughter of a titan 2. She helped Hercules for her own good 3. She was kicked out of the hesperdes 4. She died
I'm not crying you are! *sadly wipes tear from face and continues crying silently*
Look enough is enough. If we're comparing him to normal people than his past is pretty sad but if we are comparing him to demigods that: 1. Lost family members 2. Has no one that cared for them 3. Ran away from home and 4. were taken out of time then it's like not as bad. He had his mother. And it was never confirmed that he was physically abused. His past isn't nearly as bad as Leo's or Hazel's or Or like almost everyone. And how is Percy above Thalia!? She ran away from home! And Frank who lost his mother! And Tyson! And Meg! And like everyone else!
People often underestimate Percy's past. They think he must have had an easy life, being so well-liked. But...Imagine waking up everyday of your life, knowing you were going to be abused. Imagine one day, your world just comes crashing down. Your mother is taken (probably dead), your best friend's unconcious and is not who he said he was, the car crashed and an ancient and powerful monster after your blood and you're there, defenseless. Finally finding a place to be safe, but the first few people you meet try to dunk you in the toilet bowl. Imagine being claimed by your birth father; only because he wanted you to do something for him. Imagine completing the task but when you arrive to inform your father, he acts like you're not there and tells his brother that you were simply a MISTAKE. He doesn't even acknowledge you! And people often forget that Percy was BULLIED at school, just because he stood up for other people. And I'm pretty sure you would not be happy if someone kept on ...more
Percy may have not hace the worst past, but I think he does belong higher on this list because:
1. He lived his whole life with an abusing stepfather, his mother as his only support
2. He was bullied at school and didn't have any friends
3. He was expelled out of at least half a dozen schools because he always attracted trouble
4. He was labeled as troubled and unintelligent because of his ADHD and dyslexia, his teachers never had much faith in him
5. As a demigod among mortals, he never fit in with the rest
6. He used humor and sarcasm as a defense mechanism against his peers
The others; Annabeth, Leo, Nico,... May not have had much of a childhood, but Percy had to endure much too, at home (Gabe) and at school, and I can't imagine he had much of a childhood with Gabe around, and not at school either because he never fit in and was either bullied or ignored by his peers.
Everyone thinks that Percy had the best past.
It was never confirmed, but it was insinuated that Percy was abused by Gabe.
So Percy was abused by Gabe. His family didn't have much money. He was expelled from every school he attended. He was bullied at school for being different. He had severe ADHD and severe dyslexia. Most people say that all demigods have ADHD and dyslexia, but that's not true. Most demigods have only minor ADHD or minor dyslexia. Not severe both.
Then he believed his mother was killed. And he finally found a place where he fit in (CHB)! Then his head was stuffed down a toilet.
He was claimed by his father. Only because Poseidon wanted to clear HIS OWN name. When Percy meets his father for the first time, he is told it was a MISTAKE he was born. And that's only the beginning.
Guys I think Thalia has the worst past in the series. Just think about it;
Her mother turned mad because of her obsession with Zeus/Jupiter. She began to drink. Her drunkness, then later her loss of her son, caused of her end. After she lost Jason, she literally lost her mind too this time. She later died in a car crash.
Thalia had to life in this kind of life. She lost her mother; and she probably blames herself for it too as we saw it in the Underworld when she faced with her mother's ghost. She lost her brother Jason when he was a child. Her life has messed up by the Hera from the very start.
Then she ran away, met with Luke and Annabeth. They became family. Then Thalia, in order to protect her own family that she built, gave her own life. Zeus at the last minute decided to turn Thalia into a tree so Thalia would be alive; but in a tree form. Technically she's living but not really.
When she woke up, she woke up to a nightmare. Learnt that there is a ...more
Thalia may not have had it worse than Hazel, but she DEFINITELY had it worse than Annabeth. She basically lived like a hunted animal until her final stand. She had a bad relationship with her mother, Hera stole her little brother, she ran away from home and lived alone avoid monsters until she met Luke, and then she sacrificed herself to save her friends
Her mom went insane, gave up her lil' brother, and died after drinking and driving. And then she risked her life to save the camp, and then she was turned into a tree. And THEN she joins hunters of Artemis. OK, I'm kind of getting off track, but you get it.
When she was only twelve she was turned into a pine tree. Do I NEED to say more?
She never knew the titans were bad, so she just helped them and thought she was on the good side. Then, she was forced to stay on a lonely island forever. Often, heroes would come. She would always love them and they would love her back, but they always left and never came back.
She didn't even believe the Titans were doing the right thing. She was banished to Ogygia to keep finding love but never keeping it only because Atlas was her father. Technically, The gods are children of the Titans, too.
I feel that it is sooo sad that she was imprisoned in Ogygia for like a million years! Soon she finds true love, but before that she gets rejected just because she made the mistake of going on the wrong side!
Never being able to leave an island, all alone, then watching the only people who come, leave you (although you love them), because they have bigger and better things to do. that's your eternal punishment for something anyone in the same position as you would do. that's what calypso went through.
I would feel so scared if my life was tied to stick, and when it burned I'd die!
His mother died and his life depends on a STICK.
No one in the above list have life tied to a burning piece of wood
She was small and pushed around because she was small and weak. Also, Phineas tries to hurt her for being smart and memorizing the books
Ella small. Ella weak. Ella useless. Ella sisters hate her. Phineas wants Ella chained and hurt, and tried to be killed. *sniff, sniff*
Ella was forced to be a slave for what's his face and she thought she was useless.
Poor, poor, Ella. Sweet little Ella. One who deserved so much better.
No one really talks about Sally. Her parents died in a plane crash, her uncle got cancer so she had to drop out of school to take care of him and then he died, Poseidon left her with Percy, she married a horrible abusive man, her son almost died a million times, her son goes missing...yeah, that's a lot of things. Let's not forget that Sally Jackson is a frigging QUEEN. She is so strong, it's just incredible.
Nobody pays any attention to her past, but both Sally's parents died at the same time, her uncle didn't really care about her, but then expected her to drop everything and take care of him, which she did anyway.
She was abused by Gabe, who she didn't even like but only married to keep her son safe. Then she was kidnapped in TLF. And now that Percy was a demigod, she had to fear for his life everyday and see him go on deadly quests. And guess what happens? Her son goes missing for 6 months, and then falls into Tartarus with Annabeth, who she's also close to. She should be higher up!
Domestic violence, sees her son like once a year, kinda died once, and the love of her life left her forever. Yeah, she had a great past.
She deserves to be higher! Poor thing.
Echo: Deserves to be higher! Poor thing.
Right, echo, but you know, Leo was nice to you.
Echo: Leo was nice to you
That's the right attitude!
Echo: Right attitude?
Yeah, keep knowing that people don't think you're useless!
Echo: People don't think you're useless!
Echo is forced not to speak what she wants to.
She is so sweet and kind
The first (and only) time I have ever cried at a book was when he sacrificed himself and said, "Say hello to the sun and stars for me,". It wasn't even dramatic. I was only this sad in Kane Chronicles, when Bes lost his memory, or Charlottes Web, when Charlotte died. Those times I didn't cry. This time I did. This should be the list.
1. Leo Valdez
3. Nico de Angelo
4. Percy Jackson
5. Annabeth Chase (Why? She was a misfit in HER OWN HOUSE so eventually she ran away. Then she met Luke and Thalia. She then lost Thalia, (at the moment she was gone) and in the final book she SPOILER ALERT lost Luke. Well she had already lost him when he was Kronos)
Bob's struggle with memory and personal morals was heart breaking and highly relatable. Bob's sacrifice was wonderfully done as was Percy's promise to tell the stars hello for him.
He was so kind. He did kill his father though
I feel like she should be higher up, higher than Percy at least.
She died in a robot foot.
Why do people hate him? Literally he's the ruler of the underworld! A place where those who died havw their consequences! Evil gets tortured, and good gets rewarded. Honestly, I think people should stop fearing death! I'm fixing to put 99.99% of the fandom in the "least favorite heroes of olympus characters"
Hades has hate when 1. the world could be poor for he controls the earth 2. he didn't want to steal persephone it was zeus's idea 3. hades doesn't want people to die. it would be a nightmare 4. he could have been king of gods for he was oldest but he let them draw lots and he let his brothers go first 5. He helped fight kronos when no gods did. he is constantly hated and he does not even have a throne on mount olympus
Was the loser. Was the outsider. Was the infinitieth wheel. Lost his family. Had no friends. Had to live like that forever.
I like Hades he is one of my favorite Gods.
She wanted to help the Oracle and free it and what she got from it? She became mad and started speaking and seeing dark future for her son. Her own son was afraid of her and there was nothing she could do about it, she was cursed. Hermes, whom she dearly loved, never bothered to visit. Then her son ran away from her when he was nine. She must have been really worried especially since she saw dark future ahead of him. But she still makes him sandwiches and Kool-aid for him, not knowing that he is never gonna come back. She also probably didn't have a good family or her family is dead because none of them ever bothered to see her. And I know this is about past, but you know she is probably still alone in kitchen, making sandwiches for Luke not knowing that he is now dead.
"I thought of May Castellan, in her kitchen, happily making sandwiches and Kool-aid for a son that wasn't ever coming back."
--I'm not crying--I'm just--sweating--from my eyes.
Still making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Kool aid, and burnt cookies for a son she doesn't know isn't come home.
Piper was pretty much ignored by her dad, her mom is a goddess so no mom, really and the person who did take care of her, Jane, is a jerk who makes her feel like she doesn't matter and such, she's bullied at school etc. Her backstory may not be as worse as any of the other Seven, but she did have a crappy life.
People always misjudge her..
Okay, why the hell is Meg so low. She got used by her stepfather, the person who killed her dad!
Where do I start. Her father died. Nero adopted her and Tried to Use her!
Meg constantly being abused by Nero, how is that not a horrible backstory?
Tyson lived on the streets and got attacked by monsters and he was like five.
I think you guys forget that she is abused by her father, the literal god of war. in the demigod files it is said that he is her worst fear, even though we can see in sea of monsters that she is scared of him and flinches when he raises his hand. she maybe doesn't have a saddest past but I think that y'all should't erase the fact that she also has problems. and I cannot say that she wasn't a bully, just like y'all can't say that she wasn't important, especially in sea of monsters and the last olympian.
All she did was dunk new kids heads in the toilet.
Why is she on this list
How's that worse than anyone else's life?
She was privileged.
Let me make it clear, that this is a list about saddest pasts, not saddest presents. She ended up in ELYSIUM with her boyfriend!
She died saving olympus from a draken attack, she was tricked into being a spy for luke because he was nice to her and then she got her boyfriend killed
