Top 10 Cover Songs by Rock and Metal Bands that Were Better Than the Original

The Top Ten
1 All Along the Watchtower - The Jimi Hendrix Experience

The guitar solo was very good. Especially at the ending.

2 Whiskey in the Jar - Metallica

This is a bit complicated. Metallica did a cover of Thin Lizzy but it's not the original - it was also a cover, a rock cover of a folk song. The original is an Irish folk song.

Thin Lizzy did it so much better.

3 Cum on Feel the Noize - Quiet Riot

How did I forget this

4 Knockin' on Heaven's Door - Guns N' Roses

Bob Dylan wasn't a very good singer but an excellent song writer and since Axl Rose is a good singer with a very high vocal range Guns N' Roses nailed this cover and made it better than the orginal

A lot better than the original, and probably my 2nd favorite Guns N' Roses song. They did a very good job with the cover.

I definitely agree - much much better than the original. Maybe this should be at #1 on this list.

5 Symphony of Destruction - Paul Di'ano & Jeriko

I would say this is just as good as the Original I prefer the vocals here but I prefer the orginals instrumental if only you could put them two together

6 Am I Evil - Metallica
7 The Wizard - Blind Guardian

The original is very good and I know Blind Guardian have respect for Uriah Heep and their goal wasn't to show they are better than Uriah Heep. Nevertheless, Blind Guardian cover makes the song sound more modern, more powerful and of course, heavier.

8 Land of Confusion - Disturbed

I like this a lot better than the Genesis version

This is madness.

9 Antisocial - Anthrax
10 License to Kill - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
The Contenders
11 The Sound of Silence - Disturbed

The Simon & Garfunkel one will always be better.

I think the original was better.

Elegant! Just amazing!

12 The Man Who Sold the World - Nirvana
13 It's All Over Now, Baby Blue - Them
14 Got the Time - Anthrax
15 Loverman - Metallica
16 Twist and Shout - The Beatles
17 Bad Company - Five Finger Death Punch
18 Electric Funeral - Pantera
19 Baby Please Don't Go - AC/DC
20 Cat Scratch Fever - Motörhead
21 Helter Skelter - Motley Crue

1. It isn't better than the Beatles version
2. It's even less heavy than the Beatles version

22 Bad Romance - Halestorm
23 Who Wants to Live Forever - Breaking Benjamin

Pretty good cover but it's not better than the original.

24 Lake of Fire - Nirvana
25 You Don't Get Me High Anymore - Three Days Grace
