Most Overrated Video Game Franchises

  1. Call of Duty

    People just like this because they think they are too old for Mario, sonic, Zelda, Pokemon, and donkey Kong! They are just looking for the most violent M-rated game on the planet! Call of Duty! They just want to be cool! People who play Call of Duty get influenced with drugs, cursing, murder, and alcohol. And they don't like Nintendo just because it doesn't have all that! I don't even like Call of Duty! Its boring! I bet Call of Duty fans don't like it either! The probably just play so they can brag to their friends and judge people who like Nintendo! This is all messed up!

    I don't hate first person shooters (I'm a fan of the Half-Life, DOOM, Turok, Left 4 Dead, Crysis and Metroid Prime series among others) but I honestly can't for the life of me understand why this particular franchise is so popular! The stories in these games are cliched as hell and almost every aspect of their gameplay holds your hand to an embarrassing degree!

    I also find it to be a laughably textbook case of The Pot Calling The Kettle Black when fanboys of this franchise accuse classic Nintendo franchises like Mario, Zelda and Pokémon of being "the same games over and over again"...

  2. Minecraft

    People are saying that this isn't a franchise. Okay, so why does it have a story mode game? I count it as a franchise and it is more overrated than Call of Duty. At least Call of Duty has a story and good graphics. This has neither of those things. There's no story, no characters, outdated graphics, and mods that take 12 years to install. If I wanted a sandbox game that revolved around mods and skins, I would get Garry's Mod instead.

    Um... This isn't a franchise. Why is Minecraft here? Yes, I think it's extremely overrated that deserves to be in a Top 10 most overrated games of all time list, but this is a list of overrated game franchises and not overrated games. So why is Minecraft the exception?

  3. Super Smash Bros.

    I love this game. It is my favorite of all time and will always be the funnest I've played. (My opinion. I can understand if you don't like it.) I do understand that Smash Bros. is on YouTube a lot, but they're not as cringey as ones like Anime (Weebs), Sonic, there. Plus, the tournament videos and amiibo tournaments by fans are fun to watch! I love hearing what names people give to amiibo!

    Anyway, the only game I have a problem with is Melee. I've never played this one, but I'd like to some day. All I hear is wombo combo, Fox is best, and shine shine shine. And even the people who play Melee will hate on every new Smash game, like Brawl and Wii U/3DS.

    So in conclusion, this should not be that high. Maybe like top 30, but not top 15. It's not that overrated. Melee is overrated, Brawl is underrated, and Smash 4, eh, middle. It has a perfectly balanced fighting system, amazing graphics, and an awesome variety of characters.

  4. Grand Theft Auto

    First off, I'd like to point out that Grand Theft Auto I didn't pioneer the concept of a huge open 3d world. That honor goes to an underrated gem called Outcast. Go and see for yourself.

    Second, the reason why this series is overrated is because it has become stagnant. Here's why:

    In Grand Theft Auto I you couldn't swim, there were no checkpoints and no manual save option. If you died or got busted, you'd lose all your weapons.

    In Grand Theft Auto Vice City you couldn't swim, there were no checkpoints and no manual save option. Again, die or get busted and you lose your weapons.

    In San Andreas, the most complete and definitive game in the series, there were still no checkpoints and you still couldn't manually save the game. Also, die or get busted and bye-bye weapons. But at least you could swim and customize your characters and vehicles.

    In Liberty City stories you had NONE of the customization options in San Andreas. Plus, you couldn't swim and of course, no checkpoints and no manual save option. And yeah, you once again lose your weapons if you die or get caught.

    In Vice City stories you could swim and you could actually buy back your weapons if you died or got busted. THANK GOD. But of course, no checkpoints and no manual save option.

    In Grand Theft Auto IV, A.K.A. "Niko Bellic's dating service" you had as few weapons as Grand Theft Auto I, you could barely customize your character, the vehicle physics were HORRIBLE, the missions boiled down to driving from point A to point B and in most cases you ended up killing some random guy.   5. The Legend of Zelda

    I used to like these games but as I got older, I think they are full of it . Now most of the new games are just remastered version of their old games (unoriginal). Every game is just the same thing : ganondorf gets butthurt over something and link has to save everyone. The fanbase is even worse, they get triggered every time they hear something bad.

    Everyone thinks that because the original and Ocarina of Time were so great that Legend of Zelda is the best series of all time. That is not the case, everyone says that Breath of the Wild is the best game even though there are better games on Switch.

  6. Pokemon

    It's more overrated than call of duty franchise, grand theft auto, halo, and even super smash bros series by you can capturing every pocket monster, and mewtwo is not one of the pokemon franchise? he is the best pokemon of all time!

    Nope. It probably deserves more praise. Best game series, period. Call of Duty and Undertale are the overrated ones.

    Yeah, this is slightly overrated, but I wouldn't have this on the list at all.

  7. Final Fantasy

    I have to agree...

    Why is it call final fantasy when there's like 7 of them?

    What's wrong with people nowadays?

    Good god, the fandom for this crap is EVERYWHERE and they just won't shut up!

  8. Five Nights At Freddy's

    Even if this game series is oversaturated, I'd have to say that Scott Cawthon is definitely someone to look up to. He got hated on because of games like Chipper and Sons, and thought about suicide, but he took the criticism and made an original concept. He's very kind and is a great risk taker. With FNaF World, it was hated by many because it felt unfinished, and Scott apologized, took the game down, fixed it, and sold it on GameJolt for free. Instead of crying and complaining about the bad reception, he fixed it and gave what people wanted.

    Not only is it overrated because too many people like it, but it is also by far the worst video game franchise ever. It's only scary the first 5 deaths, and it has the most tedious gameplay ever. It shouldn't be called "5 nights at freddy's", it should be called "5 nights with a paraplegic". Seriously, the entire game is just you using the force to turn the lights on and off and close the doors and only being able to look in 4 directions.

  9. Halo

    I just don't see what's so special about Halo, it has average gameplay, a crappy story and bland characters. At least Call of Duty & Zelda have either good story, gameplay and/or characters, Halo just sucks.

    Halo is just like Call of Duty, very overrated. It basically just a more futuristic version of Call of Duty and it hasn't been the same without Bungie making the games.

    Halo is kinda boring in the character department and story. It's FINE, but I'm not a FPS fan to be honest.

    The first sonic games were great in my opinion. I do find the adventure series a bit overrated but than Sonic went downhill from there with games such as the god awful Sonic the hedgehog (A.K.A Sonic 06) and Sonic Genesis (the GBA port, not the original game) but than Sonic Generations came and I saw hope with sonic the hedgehog however than came Sonic Boom, a game so terrible, not even the most loyal sonic fans would defend it. the community is what you get when cancer and aids have a child. honestly I think sonic is dead and the franchise will never be the same ever again.

    Man, this series gets way too much hate to deserve to be on this list even if the Adventure and classic games are overrated. But what really embarrasses me is that people only say Sonic has bad games like 06 that barely even get any praise from anyone; I mean seriously, how does 06 even relate to this franchise being overrated when the game wasn't praised to begin with. Seriously, who exactly is making comments in this list?

    Wow, what a stupid game. It's probably the worst game I have ever played. I have never seen people go berserk over a garbage free mobile game. Plus, so many spinoff games...

    It's difficulty is the reason it became so popular. It's just super boring.

    I played some of them and then I realized it was another one of Activision's cash cows. $12 of each character! ARE YOU SERIOUS?

    Skylanders is extremely overrated,don't deserve any praise,force you buy characters and took a old franchise(Spyro) and crap all over it to make this cash grab.So yes it deserve to be in the top and burn forever in the nine degree of hell forever for what it has done to the original franchise.And yet people seem to love it...are the new generation dumber or what?

    Why does this game receive any popularity at all? It's just a way for Activision to make double the money per game.

    The original game was decent and addictive but after that it got like 20 remakes a damn theme park and a movie! And the plot is just as cliche and basic as Bowser kidnapping Peach and Mario saves her

    Wow, who even cares about this franchise anymore? I think people stopped caring in 2012. This game got theme park attractions and a MOVIE? There's no plot!

    How the hell did this series get a MOVIE?!? Its just birds suicide-bombing pigs, whats the plot?

    EA Sports is a brand of Electronic Arts that specializes in creating and developing sports video games. It's best known for its major franchises such as FIFA, Madden NFL, NBA Live, and NHL. EA Sports games are known for their realism and are some of the most popular sports titles globally.

    At least Call of Duty tries something that distinct the other games from each other and its gameplay is serviceable, in addition to FPS classics that are Modern Warfare 1 and 2, World at War and Black Ops. Meanwhile, EA Sports regurgitates the same game over and over and yet it still profits a ton. I've never grasped on how people tend to enjoy this and there's nothing interesting for me to find in it. I personally find FIFA to be arguably the most overrated video game series ever made (Yes, even more than Call of Duty).

    Ea sports has been voted the worst company of all time 2 years in a row. These guys buy out awesome game franchises, ruin them, and make you by a bajillion dlc. Thank you ea.

    Oh my god I hate this game so much! It's so overrated because everyone at school talks about it. Even you tubers play it! whenever I watch videos all I see is Fortnite, Fortnite, Fortnite! This needs to be number one.

    This is not a franchise because the Battle Royale, Story Mode, and Creative are all in the same game therefore shouldn't be considered a franchise.

    And it's here two times... that's why this bad overrated boring game should be number 1

    For an fps series that calls itself a mature community war simulator, they sure like losing their minds over someone likening Call of Duty more.

    It's not a simulator, get over yourselves.

    Everyone here likes battlefield and hates call of duty, the campaigns aren't even that fun in battlefield

  26. Metal Gear Solid

    Over the top melodramatic cheese so goofy and cartoony only a child would think this game has any depth. Want a stealth game? Go play Splinter Cell. Want a deep rewarding story? Go play Mass Effect. Want fourth wall breaking goodness? Go play the Deadpool game. Want a cover based system? Go play Gears of War. Want over zealous anime characters voiced by actors who ham it up and story lines that always end with the Japanese go to of "giant robots? " Look no further than Metal Gear. A Tom Clancy game for kids and nerds who are still too young for anything with a giant "M" on the box.

    How? Name one bad or sub-par game. 123 and 4 have all affected the genre in one way or another, and are all 9/10 games.

  27. Kingdom Hearts

    It should have ended when darkness prevailed and light expired! And Disney is what made Kingdom Hearts overdone and dry!

    I tried this game with an open mind, and it was one of the worst games I've ever played in my entire life.

    Disney garbage that is a waste of people's time. Always making Balan Wonderworld look like a commercial hit!
