Top 10 Most Greedy Companies

When you think of corporate greed, certain names probably spring to mind. These are the companies that rake in enormous profits, often at the expense of workers, consumers, or even the planet. This list shines a light on the companies seen as prioritizing wealth above all else. From shady practices and exploitative pricing to environmental damage and worker mistreatment, each company on this list has earned its place for different reasons.
The Top Ten
EA Electronic Arts, Inc., also known as EA Games, is an American developer, marketer, publisher and distributor of video games headquartered in Redwood City, California.

The only company to be named the worst in America twice in a row, EA is a morally bankrupt, shady mid-tier video game publisher that is notorious for buying up smaller development teams and liquidating their assets. Fueled by rehashed annual sports releases, bought by millions regardless of quality, EA represents the dark truth of what happens when a company has complete control over a particular market.

Absolutely shameless, they will resort to any and all means, be they legal or questionable, to exploit consumers and gamers alike.

Apple Apple Inc. is an American multinational technology company that specializes in consumer electronics, software and online services headquartered in Cupertino, California, United States. Apple is the largest technology company by revenue (totaling US $365.8 billion in 2021) and as of May 2022, and, as... read more

They intentionally make older devices unusable by manipulating software, which adds to electronic waste. Good companies become better by either improving their product or reducing costs. Apple hasn't done either.

Instead, they are busy alienating their customers by frustrating them.

The ridiculous pricing of their products is what causes people to use a Hackintosh instead. You get better performance for less than half the price. And of course, there's the planned obsolescence of their older computers.

Build-A-Bear Workshop

They're greedy, alright, but they were at their worst when they set up an event called Pay Your Age Day. So many kids and parents crowded the stores, wrapping around the buildings and waiting for hours just to get a $1 discounted bear.

What's so important about that? It was chaos. People were complaining and even fighting, and many were heartbroken when the company decided to cancel the event because it was too crowded. So many people who lined up to get a bear didn't get one at all.

The company really just wanted the money.

Disney The Walt Disney Company, commonly known as Disney, is an American diversified multinational mass media and entertainment conglomerate headquartered at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.

Disney does not care about you... Only your money. Their idea of a gift is a discounted price. If you have played any of their online games, you know this to be true. They won't even give "digital" gifts (that cost them nothing).

They overcharge for in-game credits so much that a "free" game can end up costing you thousands of dollars. And don't even get me started on how they are destroying the Star Wars franchise.

When I was a kid, the whole family would gather to watch Disney every Sunday. The music would start, you'd see the castle, and you'd think, "This is going to be good!" That feeling is long gone. The fall of the Disney empire can't come fast enough for me.

Amway

A pyramid scheme.

Roblox Roblox Corporation is an American video game developer based in San Mateo, California. Founded in 2004 by David Baszucki and Erik Cassel, the company is the developer of Roblox, which was released in 2006. As of June 30, 2021, Roblox Corporation employed 1,234 people.

Forces people to play in a desktop version that runs significantly worse than the browser version, is full to the brim with ads, and downgrades the textures in the desktop variant to improve frame rates. I have an Nvidia RTX graphics card and can run AAA games at a smooth 144 frames per second, but as soon as I play a simple Roblox game in the desktop app that is forced on its platform users, I get 30 frames on Roblox. It's unstable and changes frame rate very quickly, never going above 44.

They don't even add a feature to disable it, and not only that, but when people find ways to disable it, they quickly attempt to patch it, rendering the community's efforts useless and a waste of time.

In short, it runs badly, is poorly optimized, the layout is confusing to navigate, they force you to use it, and you get barraged with ads.

Younique Younique is a multi-level marketing company based in Lehi, Utah.
Younique's products are distributed solely by "presenters", who purchase the products to resell them. Their business model has been met with both praise and criticism, with the products' poor quality often derided. Younique is also... read more

They hide their greed behind a pro-woman stance and function, while simultaneously making a ridiculous amount of money by lying about their true intentions.

Comcast

I have Comcast. Their greed knows no bounds.

I pay over $300 a month for cable. Need I say more?

They cheat on billing statements.

Walmart

I don't really have a problem with their products and services, but I don't like what they do to the people that work for them. Over half of their workers with children live below the poverty line.

Even worse, in 2013, a factory in Bangladesh collapsed, even when it was known that the building was unsafe beforehand, and without telling the employees. Over one thousand people died, and Walmart refuses to compensate the victims.

Now, there were other companies involved, but at least they compensated the families affected (except Sears). They could have fixed the building, but preferred to save some cash, and they have not compensated the victims.

The Contenders
Microsoft Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational technology company headquartered in Redmond, Washington, that develops, manufactures, licenses, supports and sells computer software, consumer electronics and personal computers and services.

All these companies should be forced to give half of their yearly income and put it back into things like housing and health care. Whatever they have left over, they should pay the same taxes as ordinary folks do.

I am so sick of this corporate greed.

Microsoft is taking capitalism way too far, unlike other companies. If Bill Gates still owned this company, it would be much better.

They are so focused on nickel-and-diming consumers. They charge for Xbox Live, and they even charge for little things like changing your Xbox gamer tag.

Verizon Verizon Communications Inc., commonly known as Verizon, is an American multinational telecommunications conglomerate.

They love to make you think you have something great, yet they overcharge you and make you pay for nothing at all. Annoying and stupid company.

Their plans are so expensive. It was ridiculous! The monthly payment made me leave because of how costly it was.

I agree. Verizon is a greedy company. This should be higher on the list.

Activision Activision Publishing, Inc. is an American video game publisher. It was founded on October 1, 1979 and was the world's first independent developer and distributor of video games for gaming consoles.

Black Ops Pass, seriously? Activision, I shouldn't even have to say anything, and I'm not.

Supply drops and microtransactions in general... the greediest pigs ever.

Starbucks Starbucks Corporation is an American coffee company and coffeehouse chain. Starbucks was founded in Seattle, Washington in 1971. Today it operates 23,768 locations worldwide, including 13,107 in the United States, 2,204 in China, 1,418 in Canada, 1,160 in Japan and 872 in South Korea.

There is no loyalty with this company. They make you work alone when the job clearly requires two people. They schedule you whenever they want based on your flexible availability.

However, they cut your hours by sending you home early, schedule you for fewer hours, and give you a late evening shift followed by an early morning shift the next day. If you're lazy, I guess it won't matter, but if you're hardworking, you'll be used, overworked, and taken advantage of by this greedy company.

The loyalty program has gotten stingier. Why should I spend $100 to get one free cup of coffee? Starbucks charges $6 for a cup of coffee. I finally wised up and realized I can make my own for $1.50!

So I guess copyright strikes on free fan-made games dedicated to them aren't greedy when Nintendrones say it, am I right?

Granted, no other company is pure-hearted, and game companies often add in microtransactions and overpriced DLC for the sake of money, but at least they are optional. However, once your fan-made game that you worked so hard for gets taken down, you lose it all.

So please tell me, which one is greedier: microtransactions and DLC that are optional, or copyright strikes that take away your entire project?

Google Google is an American multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services and products. These include online advertising technologies, search, cloud computing, and software.

Possibly the greediest company in existence. Ads every 20 seconds, and no downloading because poor trillionaire Google might lose a few cents of ad revenue if you want to watch a video on the subway to work.

Plus, then they won't be able to spy on your viewing habits as easily!

Greedy, Orwellian, ruined YouTube, and do everything they can to prevent offline downloading because then you might not have to sit through 39 ads for a 40-minute video. Google is disgusting.

They promote Stadia too much, knowing damn well that almost no one is going to use it anyway.

Nike Nike, Inc. is an American multinational corporation that is engaged in the design, development, manufacturing, and worldwide marketing and sales of footwear, apparel, equipment, accessories, and services. The company is headquartered near Beaverton, Oregon, in the Portland metropolitan area. It is the... read more
McDonald's

Love how the dollar menu has pretty much become the $3.19 menu overnight. Who do you think you are, McDonald's - Five Guys or something? THEY can get away with charging what they do because they have a quality burger.

You barely serve edible food, yet you keep raising prices like you're improving in quality or something!

One time my brother had a Big Mac, and it looked like somebody smashed it. McDonald's is getting worse year after year.

Real greedy CEOs and restaurant owners don't care about their crew employees.

GoAnimate

Things have changed significantly, and it's not even called "GoAnimate" anymore. The focus went from community to business. The former was admittedly stupid (for the most part), but its demise was hard to swallow.

Yep, people pay for making grounded videos.

They make you pay $40 a month to get in.

2K Games 2K Games, Inc. is an American global developer, marketer, distributor and publisher of video games, like Borderlands, Civilization V, The Darkness, NBA 2K and more recently, WWE 2K.
Konami Konami Holdings Corporation is a Japanese entertainment company that formed in 1969. Konami does a high amount of distributing products such as slot machines and arcade games, anime, video games, and trading / game cards. Konami also

Konami is one of the worst gaming companies - maybe even one of the worst companies of all time. They fired the creator of Metal Gear Solid just because he had a creative vision. Their workers are treated REALLY poorly, and they took someone's game (Silent Hills) and turned it into a pachinko machine. They didn't even pay the creator of the original video game a penny.

The PlayStation 4 is what made me start hating PlayStation. They copy other companies' strategies to make more money, like charging a monthly fee to play online with friends, which they copied from Microsoft.

Monthly plans keep getting worse and worse. Sony cares less about their users than Microsoft does (which is really, REALLY saying something) for Xbox.

They make you pay for horrible games. Get a Switch instead.
