1 RMS Titanic This iconic vessel, known for her lavish interiors and supposed invincibility, was tragically claimed by an iceberg on her maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City in 1912, resulting in over 1,500 lives lost.

You know everybody knows the titanic that it smashed into an iceberg so why not put it on number 1!

2 H.M.H.S Britannic The Titanic's sister ship, Britannic, was repurposed as a hospital ship during World War I. She fell victim to a mine in the Aegean Sea in 1916, causing her to sink.

It's becoming more popular now through the internet.

I know it's not popular but it was know as unsinkable too and it was the sister of the R.M. S Titanic.

3 RMS Lusitania This British ocean liner was torpedoed by a German submarine in 1915 during WWI, causing a significant loss of life and escalating tensions between the United States and Germany.

Got hit by torpedo just like the britannic.

4 Costa Concordia A luxury Italian cruise ship, she tragically capsized and partially sank in 2012 after striking an underwater rock formation off Isola del Giglio, Italy, resulting in the death of 32 people.

It hit a rock and tipped over flat.

5 USS Arizona A victim of the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, the Arizona went down with most of her crew, and now serves as a memorial to the lives lost in the attack.
6 S.S Republic An American Civil War-era paddlewheel steamship that sank during a hurricane in October 1865 while carrying a large cargo of silver and gold coins.
7 Scharnhorst A German battlecruiser from WWII, she was sunk in the Battle of North Cape by British forces in December 1943.
8 MV Doña Paz A passenger ferry sailing in the Philippines, she collided with the oil tanker MT Vector in 1987, resulting in the world's deadliest peacetime maritime disaster with an estimated 4,000 lives lost.

10 USS Monitor This innovative Civil War ironclad sank in a storm off Cape Hatteras in 1862. Her revolving turret revolutionized naval warfare.

11 HMS Glorious This British aircraft carrier was sunk by the German battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau during the Norwegian Campaign in June 1940, resulting in heavy loss of life.

12 SS Edmund Fitzgerald Known for her unfortunate end in a 1975 storm on Lake Superior, the Edmund Fitzgerald was a Great Lakes freighter that went down with her entire crew of 29.

Surprised this wasn't already on here. Sank in Lake Superior during a storm killing all 29 people on board.

13 SS Andrea Doria After colliding with the MS Stockholm in heavy fog off the coast of Nantucket in 1956, this Italian ocean liner sank, resulting in 46 fatalities.

Was the pride of Italy at the time. Sank after a collision with the MS Stockholm in one of maritime's most notorious disasters.

14 RMS Empress of Ireland In a collision with the SS Storstad in the Saint Lawrence River in 1914, this Canadian ocean liner sank quickly, causing the death of more than 1,000 people.
15 RMS Carpathia Known for her rescue of survivors from the Titanic, this Cunard Line steamer was torpedoed by a German U-boat in 1918 during WWI and sank in the Atlantic.

Come on! You don't even know this ole ship sank? It was torpedoed in 1918! Saddest 20-centery thing ever occered! You know this ship saved another ship's survivors (RMS Titanic), and so stop thinking it never sank!

16 MV Derbyshire The largest British ship ever lost at sea, the Derbyshire was an oil/bulk/ore carrier that disappeared during Typhoon Orchid near Okinawa, Japan in 1980.

I added this because it was the largest British ship ever lost at sea.

17 SS El Faro This American cargo ship sank in the Bermuda Triangle during Hurricane Joaquin in 2015 with the loss of the entire crew.

Sank in Hurricane Joaquin, killing 33 people.
