Top 10 Worst Things That Happened in 2024

All right, let's put the list together.

This continues my long-running monthly analysis posts. Plenty happened in 2024 that will shape the global landscape and culture for years to come. Wars dragged on, political tensions boiled over, climate disasters piled up, and the internet somehow found new and creative ways to make everyone tired.

It's worth noting the events that made many of us feel like 2024 was somehow worse than 2023, which is not exactly a trophy anyone wanted to compete for.

Add items as you wish, but do it properly. Skip random celebrity scandals unless they were truly consequential.

The Top Ten

Israel-Hamas War Continues

Has anyone ever considered that maybe, just maybe, Israel is an evil apartheid regime that has been oppressing Palestinians since it was "founded" in 1948 and takes no issue with murdering and bombing Palestinian civilians? There's a reason South Africa is at the forefront of genocide and apartheid accusations. Having experienced apartheid for themselves, they know it when they see it.
When you've been occupying land and mistreating the people to whom the land belongs, don't be surprised when the population starts resisting the occupation.
Israel has been bombing Palestinians for decades, and the one time they actually fight back, suddenly they're the ones that started the war? Like, seriously?
7.5 Magnitude Earthquake in Noto Peninsula, Japan

New Year's Day started incredibly rough for Japan with a deadly earthquake in the western part of Honshu. There was also a tsunami with it. At least 168 dead so far.
Russian Invasion of Ukraine Continues

This is the next ongoing conflict and still is a big one. Unfortunately, I really don't see how Ukraine is going to chew their way out of this one, no matter the support they get.

Even worse is that North Korea has gotten involved. This could have terrible consequences for Ukraine and other countries.

Seems never ending at this point, you can only wait until the war escalates and Europe gets attacked.
Donald Trump Wins the U.S. Presidential Election

America made the WORST decision in history this year! I am STRONGLY disappointed in the stupidity happening today.
They chose stupidity and chaos over taking diversity back and stopping inflation! If we would've elected Kamala Harris in the first place, America would've been saved instead of going to hell with this tangerine scumbag!
This man is breaking almost every constitutional law in the book! I hate to say it, but let's just hope something BAD happens to this vile orange clown soon!

2016 was a forgivable mistake. Trump was an oddball, and people didn't know the extent of how damaging a presidency under him would be.
2024 was an unforgivable choice. America knew how wildly incompetent he was. He ran the worst campaign in modern history, and yet they still chose to bring him back anyway.
U.S. Border Crisis Continues

And the last ongoing item is here.
We've had many border crossings and there is significant outcry about what U.S. leadership is doing regarding the border, and it doesn't look like it's going to be anything good.

Should be #1. There are too many drug addicts here, and it is more sad than whatever is going on above.
Chilean Wildfires

In about two days, wildfires broke out and reached historic magnitudes in Chile. Twenty-six people are dead, but it's expected to go further.
This is another reminder of the true horrors of uncontrolled fires and how climate change is playing a big role in this. Prayers for all the families affected.

As of February 13, 2024, it looks like both the wildfires in Valparaíso and Puerto Montt are gone. President Boric has announced a reconstruction team.
Perry High School Shooting

Our first mass shooting of the year occurred at a rural high school in Iowa. One student was confirmed dead, along with the perpetrator who shot himself. This happened weeks before the Republican caucuses in the state.
It's also been reported that the perpetrator was LGBTQ+ (genderfluid) and had been bullied at school.
Convicted Man Who Was Denied Probation Lunges at Clark County, NV Judge and Attacks Her

In a viral video, a man convicted of a felony with multiple other crimes was denied probation. When he heard this, he flew over the judge's table to attack her and started to fight with her.
This video showcases how some criminals view the law. They want to be given incentives all the time, and when they don't get what they want, they act as if they have nothing left to lose. This man will definitely serve more time for this incident, and let's hope incidents like this don't happen again.
Moscow Crocus City Hall Attack

As much as the media wants everyone to hate on Russia, that really refers to the government and Putin. Remember, there are Russian citizens who have been dealing with hardships their entire lives. This, boy howdy, is one terrorist attack.
It's claimed ISIS is responsible, and there was even a video of the terrorists committing the violent acts. One thing's for sure, Russian forces have seized the four men, and one of them confessed that they were killing people, no matter who, for money. He admitted to killing because he wanted money from a higher-up in ISIS.

This was such a horrible tragedy for Moscow.
It's reported that ISIS are responsible for this.
Now we're aware that ISIS came back and continue to attack.
137 are dead so far.
March hasn't ended well in 2024.
Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania

So it's come to this: trying to take out a political figure you disagree with. America is doomed.

Absolutely shocking. I found out about this while on holiday in Thailand.

This has made America worse off.

Keir Starmer Wins the 2024 UK Election

Keir may be the worst person the UK has ever had. We already have evidence of migrant crises across Europe, but Keir seems to have zero consideration for ordinary Brits.
His own law enforcement goes after them, while potentially more dangerous people seem to be ignored.

Jimmy Carter Dies at Age 100

Former President Carter was one of the best presidents I ever heard about. He put other U.S. citizens' needs before his own in many ways, such as building houses! Heaven has a special place for him!

The Contenders

2024 Bondi Junction Stabbings

It was a very tragic event. It was highly unexpected and devastating. If it weren't for the lone police officer who shot the man with the knife, more lives would have been lost. Prayers for the families who lost loved ones in the stabbing.

As someone who often goes to Bondi Junction, I was deeply shocked when this stabbing incident happened. I actually knew someone who was there at the time in Cotton On.
Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse

A relatively historic bridge collapsed after a freak accident occurred. Video shows that a liner ship lost power and ended up crashing into the bridge.
We have no idea about the six who are missing, and it's even worse for those who commute as they now have to take alternative routes. Oh, and wouldn't you know it, conspiracy theorists are all over this for some ridiculous reason.

This was a serious tragedy for Baltimore and something that could've been prevented.
A ship crashed into the Francis Scott Key Bridge, partially knocking it down. Six workers are missing.
Prayers for their families. Such an awful way to start the day in Baltimore.
Kerman Bombings

Ninety-one dead at a commemorative event marking Soleimani's assassination in Iran. The Afghanistan branch of ISIS was responsible for two separate bomb explosions.
Downtown Orlando Parking Garage Shooting

Another dark day in Florida. A man was killed when a fight at a parking garage in Orlando ended with a deadly shooting.
Violence is not the solution to problems. Rest in peace to him, and prayers for his family.
Fort Worth Sandman Signature Hotel Explosion

One concern I have is about building explosions, often caused by gas leaks and similar issues. Proper maintenance is crucial to prevent such incidents. However, the larger the building, the greater the potential impact.
There have been 21 injuries and no deaths so far, but one person was reported missing at the time.
7.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Hualien City, Taiwan

Another powerful earthquake has caused widespread damage, leading to multiple casualties. It's Taiwan's strongest in 25 years.

That picture is terrifying. That building is about to collapse.
2024 United Kingdom Riots

People need to come back to their senses. This is not the right way to express anger. Do they ever learn that violence is never the answer? The stabbing incident was horrible, but riots won't bring the killed children back and won't solve anything.
Release of the Epstein Files

Where do we begin with this? The release was eagerly anticipated by those interested in conspiracy theories involving Epstein and human trafficking. Several high-profile names were revealed in these documents, likely changing many people's perspectives on some famous individuals.

With the release of the Epstein Files, the memes about this have exploded in popularity, especially those involving Stephen Hawking.

I can't believe people let Stephen Hawking do things to them. I don't know why Stephen Hawking is famous and liked by people in the first place.

Actress Shelley Duvall, who died at the age of 75 from diabetes, was known for her role in The Shining, a well-known horror movie. RIP
Death of Alexei Navalny

Elections in Russia are rigged and unfair, and freedom of speech is heavily suppressed. It's not surprising that Putin would imprison and kill off his opponents and decide who can't run against him.

Dictator Vladimir Putin wants to turn Russia into a totalitarian dictatorship similar to North Korea.
Benjamin Netanyahu Sabotages Chances for a Hostage Deal

Bibi doesn't want to make a hostage deal because he's afraid to upset demagogues like Ben-Gvir and Ron Dermer while justifying this war. He's doing so for political fortune, which is disgusting. Ron Dermer said they plan to "thin out" Palestinians in the Gaza Strip "to a minimum."
Bibi wants to avoid prison for his ongoing corruption trial. He shows little to no sympathy for the casualties of the war and the hostages, and he smeared the families of the hostages influenced by Ben-Gvir.
Hamas is still evil for choosing terrorism and violence towards Israel at every opportunity.
If we are ever to achieve peace and get these hostages back as fast as possible, we need to address much of this extremism.

Death of Liam Payne

RIP to this former member of one of the biggest boy bands in history, One Direction. He suffered a fall from his hotel in Argentina, possibly due to drug and alcohol-related issues, at the young age of 31.
U.S. and U.K. Commence Bomb Strikes on Houthi Targets in Yemen

If there are any world events that can create mass hysteria on social media and at the same time cause mass casualties, then they are definitely on here. Two major nations have attacked Yemen in what is actually a retaliatory attack against their own ships in the Red Sea from Yemen. Other nations, I hear, are going to be involved, like Australia.
In any case, if you can create the belief that World War 3 could break out because of this, as well as the other ongoing conflicts, then yes, this is one of the worst things that can get way worse. How many civilians have to suffer?
