Top 10 Best Psychological Manga
Absolutely the best! Best! Best! This manga promises to entertain, and I love the message they want to portray. Totally one of the most underrated manga, it didn't even get an anime. I'm happy this website ranks Liar Game number 1. At least some intellectual people understand its value.
What keeps Liar Game from being number one is that the manga focuses mostly on Yokoya in the second-to-last arc and the last arc.
Rest assured, it's a good read. It will make you feel tingly.
As a fan of the psychological genre, Liar Game is the absolute best of them all (though the only flaw is its ending), followed by One Outs and Death Note.
Death Note is perfect from the start till the end. The twists and turns will keep you wanting more, and all the main characters will leave you baffled and in wonder.
But the best part is how the author subtly brings out the theme of evil and good throughout the entire series. What may be evil to one's eye may be good to another and vice versa. This one is definitely for those who like books that will keep you guessing and leave you breathless in the end.
Death Note is a masterpiece! Every single second you read it incites your mind to think like the characters, making you reflect on your own position in the world and understand the roots of human corruption.
Usogui doesn't have a strong start, but it's one of the very few manga that manages to be extremely entertaining even after 40 volumes. This manga is currently ranked 3rd, but I believe it deserves better. The lack of recognition of this manga is painful to watch.
Glad to see quite possibly the most underrated manga at #3 on this list. Madarame Baku is the ultimate genius.
The best. The way he exploits lies and how he is so sure about his gambles makes Madarame Baku, in my opinion, the smartest person in the psychological universe.
Now, I pretty much think baseball is the most boring game ever, but this anime is amazing. They make baseball so fascinating and thrilling I can't predict anything next. Tokuchi is also my personal favorite character out of all the anime I have seen, just because of his attitude, him screwing people over and being badass about it, his voice, his spiky hair, and his evil eyes.
Basically, from his personality to mind to character design, I love him!
The story about Tokuchi Toua, the gambler, outsmarting others, including players, coaches, and team owners, is very fascinating. This will give you a whole new perspective on the game. As a person who didn't like baseball to begin with, I became completely addicted to it.
Mirai Nikki at first seemed like a cliché manga where you could predict Yuno Gasai defeating other diary owners for Yukkiteru Amano. But the more I read it, the more surprises and thrills it gave. I love how thrilling it is and how it kept me hyped up, wondering who would be God.
This is a good one. I'm not really a fan of supernatural/psychological stories, but for me, this one won't disappoint you.
This was awesome. The plot was well done and the plot twist - oh my god. This is honestly my favorite manga of all time.
Even though Detective Conan is more suited to the detective genre than psychological, the Black Organization plot is a must-read for all psychological fans.
Even though it's pretty long, it's so worth it! I love the plot, characters, and everything about it!
This is just for some hardcore gamblers out there, and he will do anything to win. Good read, 8/10.
In my opinion, it is one of the best psychological manga I have ever read, and the anime is good too.
One of the aspects of Tokyo Ghoul that I absolutely love is how Kaneki's personality changes constantly throughout the series. The way that it is depicted is amazing as well. Even so, Tokyo Ghoul has many other amazing characters, and we get to understand them and their motives, even if they are just side characters.
My favorite manga of all time. Brilliant symbolism, character development, and world-building that seems to expand more and more with every read. Unbelievably well-written and complex characters, especially our main character, Kaneki. Easily #1 for me.
It was like I was seeing through the eyes of a depressed person. It made me question every single thing that I do. The protagonist is such an average person, and yet all of that happens to him. And it's not all about him. This manga shows the perspectives of all the characters, and you learn how they affect him and vice versa.
My opinion is to read lighter psychological manga first because this will be way too much for someone who is happy and satisfied with their life. I really question if people who had depression before will like this manga. Maybe because they can relate to it, but they might become depressed again. I wish there were more reviews on this manga because I am still not sure what the different forms of his head meant. If anyone can explain that to me, please do!
Anyways, it's a roller coaster for sure. It has 141 chapters, and it will tear your heart, mind, and soul out.
The Newcomers
This anime is genius, with a genius, cold-blooded MC!
Every time the MC pretends to lose, I actually think he has lost, but he's just planning something with his act. He convinced me multiple times! This manga is super good psychologically!
I'm surprised no one put this on the list, as it is one of the best psychological manga out there. The thrill and story are so good, and the art really adds to it.
I couldn't recommend this one enough.
A series that leaves you wondering, and for every person, it might have its unique appeal.
I, for one, was entranced by the "person without a name" part, but for my friend, it was another part that hit close to home. That shows just how rich this is. It's deep.
I actually rank this higher than Death Note, but close. Death Note may have more attractive characters art-wise, but no character scared me like Johan Liebert.
Wow, I don't even know how to describe it. It was done so masterfully. As someone who has read and enjoyed both Death Note and Monster, I can say that this far surpasses Death Note. They are not even close to being in the same league.
Well, I don't even know where to start. It was, luckily, one of the first manga that I read. Since then, I've never read anything as good as this one. Many people said that Tokyo Ghoul and other well-known manga are psychological, but I just couldn't relate when I read them after Alice in Borderland. To me, Imawa no Kuni no Alice is the definition of despair, suffering, inner conflicts, dealing with hardships, and surviving.
To put it simply, the word "psychological" is exclusively made for this one. I know my comment sounds biased, but this is how much impact this manga has on me. I've read it three times already. It's been a while since I started reading manga, and this one was, is, and will be my favorite manga ever!
I just recently started reading it, but it's so damn good. I can't stop reading it! I totally love it!
Amazing, I couldn't stop reading. The artwork was especially well done!
Honestly, this one grabbed me from the get-go and now I can't wait to find out what happens next.
The ending was weird, but I liked it!
One of the best. Sincerely, if you are looking for a good psychological anime, I highly recommend this. Highly. Also, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni... my absolute favorite manga, and the anime is great, considering the length of the arcs and not being able to fit all of the details into the anime. But the prize is the visual novels.
Umineko no Naku Koro Ni is Dante meets Agatha Christie. Just read everything from Ryukishi07.
Shiki, full stop... just... wow. The anime is amazing as well, with a majorly kick-ass theme song by Buck-Tick.
It's yaoi, but Sakura Gari is amazing. Psychological? Oh hell yeah. You may need brain bleach and psychological/emotional counseling after, but damn... it's good. A personal favorite.
I love this manga. I highly recommend this series for those who like mystery and thrillers.
The story follows a guy with some kind of magical powers that change the course of the future for those around him and himself.
The artwork might not be that good and it gradually loses its thrills. But the first half is truly unforgettable.
I really, really love this manga and I want to buy it personally. Unfortunately, they don't have volume one anymore as this manga is quite old.
Sometimes I'm confused with the politics, this and that, but as you understand it, you'll get hooked for sure.
First of all, what? Art sucks? Are you guys out of your mind? The art is excellent.
Or do you mean the anime? Because the art in the anime really sucks.
Anyway, I can't wait for the next chapter of Kaiji.
Kaiji, for me, is the most underrated anime of all time. Yeah, sure, the drawings are a bit annoying, but the storyline is unique. They said that the plot is predictable, but the amazing quality of this anime is those games and tricks that are being pulled by the MC.
Psychological yet philosophical, this anime needs more attention. Highly recommended! Trust me on this.
Was interesting. I recommend this to anyone who is also a fan of Battle Royale.
Though I'm not a fan of supernatural/psychological stories, this one has a great plot and is action-packed too.
You should read this one. It's not just Naruto where determination surpasses everything.
Aku no Hana is one of Oshimi Shuzo's most popular manga. It also has an anime adaptation that faithfully follows the manga. So, if you want to watch the anime and then read the manga, by all means, do so.
This manga is about a boy who is being blackmailed by a rebel at school to do very disturbing things. The protagonist is nothing like the mainstream ones. He's not strong-minded or striving for anything in life, and he's definitely not a role model. However, the female characters in Oshimi Shuzo's work all have a dominant and powerful vibe to them.
The manga revolves around the breaking of principles and norms and challenges everything that shapes your identity. Society plays a role in defining who you are. The anime's animation is unique, and the setting represents how society confines us. The unsettling atmosphere is accompanied by eerie music.
In the end, all I can say is that it's definitely an anime worth watching. At first, you might be like, "What the hell am I watching/reading?" but then you'll be like, "Oh snap, I can't stop watching. Clicks to the next episode of Aku no Hana. Don't judge me."
So, in short, WATCH THE ANIME. It's a lifetime experience, and get ready to be wrecked.
