Worst Mortal Kombat Redesigns

Well... well... well. It all started with my first fascination when I discovered this site.

For this list, we dive into the depths of some of the worst ideas for redesigns throughout the series. Sometimes, new trends should be applied more lightly rather than through heavy reworking.
The Top Ten
Tanya (Mortal Kombat 1)

How did they mess this one up so horribly? For years, Tanya had great designs, up to this point.

Now she's a generic Ugadi guard for Outworld? I liked the traitor version of her better. Who's this supposed to be? This isn't the Tanya I know.

Ermac (Mortal Kombat 1)

How do you waste a redesign of one of the most fun characters to combo? By giving him a generic, mummy-like face. Oh, and let's have Jarrod be a placeholder in that body. Ermac feels wasted in my book. A filler entry in the main story.

Stryker (Mortal Kombat: Armageddon)

He goes from some weird punk cop in Mortal Kombat 3 to some unrecognizable-looking fellow in Armageddon. Yeah, was I supposed to realize that was Stryker fighting near the bottom of the pyramid? It's already a red flag that he just becomes forgettable both times.

Reptile (Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance)

This one was the most hated redesign for years, and I can see why. This version of Reptile isn't embraced by fans.

He comes off too lizard-like, mixed with a weird ninja suit. This combination was poorly received for that reason.

Cyrax and Sektor (Mortal Kombat 1)

This one is just sad. I'm used to seeing these two as male robots like ketchup and mustard.

Now, in the new timeline, they're the opposite gender? This feels like a reminder of the "times" we live in, sadly. The only saving grace is that they're DLC.

Jade (Mortal Kombat 11)

Great to see a much-needed return. Unfortunately, she does not stand out all that much. Thanks to her very mundane design, she looks more like an Assassin's Creed character.

Johnny Cage (Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance)

The 3D-era version of Johnny Cage easily sits as the worst of all. Something about that look feels off. The blond hair, the bull belt. Yeah, this isn't doing it for me.

Liu Kang (Mortal Kombat: Deception)

Obviously, this is often referred to as "Zombie" Liu Kang. In Deadly Alliance, they killed him off boldly, only to actually make him playable in the next entry, Deception.

Yes, if you wanted to play as an undead version of the fire god, this was it. Although, I would say Mortal Kombat X treated his negative side more accurately after being killed off.

Sonya Blade (Mortal Kombat One) Sonya Blade is a video game character from the Mortal Kombat series. Debuting in the original Mortal Kombat game from 1992, she was a late addition to the game as developers decided deep into the development cycle that the game needed a female character.
Smoke (Mortal Kombat 9)

I find his main look kind of odd in this game looking back. It would be like if Steve Martin was put in a fighting game.

Something about the white hair on Smoke feels very misplaced.

? The Joker (Mortal Kombat 11)
The Contenders
Skarlet (Mortal Kombat 11)

I guess you could do worse with her design, but I just don't like it. I can see why she wasn't brought back. We're used to seeing Shao Kahn with Sindel, as opposed to raising a Skarlet.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but there's too much red going on. I like color, just not how it's done here.
