Top 10 Best Mortal Kombat 9 Characters

You've pulled off the X-ray moves. You've memorized the frame data. You've screamed "Finish Him!" so many times your neighbors think you're running a gladiator pit. Now it's time to settle the real question: Who dominates the roster in Mortal Kombat 9?

This isn't about lore or nostalgia. It's about who delivers in the arena. Who's got the mix-ups that break spines and the specials that make opponents rage quit mid-match? Maybe it's the teleporting ninjas with their flashy entrances or the masked maniacs who turn zoning into an art form. Or maybe you're all about rushdown chaos, frame traps, and the sweet satisfaction of a well-timed combo that juggles your enemy into another realm.

Vote for the fighters who deserve to be feared. Skip the filler. Elevate the legends. Other fans have cast their votes, and now it's your move.

The Top Ten
  1. Scorpion

Scorpion is a recurring player character and occasional boss in the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. He made his debut in the original Mortal Kombat (1992) and is recognizable by his yellow ninja outfit. His iconic catchphrase, Get over here!, is often used in... read more

He slashes people's faces, making their brains flow out. He can summon demons from hell and has cool attire in every game (except, in my opinion, his head shape in the game where his head is scorpion-shaped). Other than that, he even screams GET OVER HERE! by pulling you with his kunai or the rope dart, if you prefer.

Mortal Kombat 9 is not really Mortal Kombat 9. It is a remake of the Trilogy and Mortal Kombat 4. People called it Mortal Kombat 9 because it's the 9th installment.

  2. Sub-Zero

Sub-Zero is a video game character from the Mortal Kombat series and one of the original fighters introduced in the first game, released in 1992. He is known for his ice-based powers, including the ability to freeze opponents. Sub-Zero is the only character to have appeared in every main entry of the... read more

Sub-Zero could be number one. He is awesome with his combos, his ice sword, and turning people to ice. Practically, he is the best cryomancer and is also the leader of the Lin Kuei. However, he doesn't scream GET OVER HERE! If only he did that, there could be a tie because I like both characters. Anyways, GET OVER HERE!

Easily the most cerebral fighter. He can control the game's pace, play offense and defense, set traps, and lay a ton of damage on you in the corner. He is a slower character, but his ability to manage the spacing of a fight more than makes up for it.

  3. Reptile

Reptile is a character from the Mortal Kombat fighting game franchise, created by Ed Boon and John Tobias for Midway Games. He first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat as a hidden opponent. He later became a playable character in subsequent titles and has appeared in related merchandise and media... read more

Reptile isn't only one of the most unique fighters, but is also, in my opinion, one of the best. Surprised Sub-Zero isn't up here, though. Nice list.

  4. Noob Saibot

Noob Saibot is a fictional character in the Mortal Kombat video game series. He first appeared as a hidden, unplayable character in Mortal Kombat II, depicted as a dark silhouette of other male ninjas.

He later became a playable character in the console versions of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. His... read more

He is a very good character. His shadows keep you at bay, and his teleport can get you if you play his projectile game. If he gets you with his ghost ball, your health will be torn away by his shadows. His X-ray deals massive damage, and his fatality is, as everyone should be, BRUTAL! So yeah, Noob isn't the best, but he's top 10, maybe 7.

Noob is a very powerful character. He has a pretty fast fighting speed and deals high damage. What I like most about him is that he uses fear to defeat his opponents.

One of the best fatalities I have ever seen. He plays a very good role in the storyline.

    Best character for sure.

  5. Johnny Cage

Johnny Cage is a fictional character from the Mortal Kombat video game franchise, which was developed by Midway Games. He first appeared in the original Mortal Kombat game released in 1992. Guys, Johnny is really cool. Do you know the nut punch and the green ball he throws? I was the one who always watched Johnny Cage videos.

Johnny Cage is the boss! He even has the best quote when he wins a round, and to be honest, it fits him more than anybody else... "Damn, I'm good!"

Johnny looks awesome in this game. Is it his outfit from MK4? Very similar.

  6. Kabal

Kabal is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series, who made his debut in Mortal Kombat 3.

He's just a really great character! I've used him for quite a while now, and he's always my favorite character when I play with my brothers and have little tourneys and such. Truly devastating blows.

One of the best characters ever in Mortal Kombat 9. Yeah, he was a bit too hideous, and his hair sucks in MK9, but you gotta love Kabal. His hookswords are just top-notch, and he's super fast too. He is just one of the best. It's sad that he gets killed by Sindel in MK9.

This guy is my favorite MK fighter. Always was and always will be. In MK9, he kicks ass as usual, but I hate the fact they made him look so ugly. I mean his arms. His body, not his face, wasn't hideous in MK3 and Deception.

  7. Sonya Blade

Sonya Blade is a video game character from the Mortal Kombat series. She made her debut in the original Mortal Kombat game released in 1992. Added late in development, she became the franchise's first female fighter and has remained an important character throughout the series.... read more

She kicks major ass. She has sweet moves and is not afraid of anyone.

Sonya is badass, the best character in Mortal Kombat.

She looks sexier than ever. Great new outfit.

  9. Ermac

He originated from rumors about a diagnostics menu in the original game that displayed the term ERMACS, which some players believed indicated a secret character. Due to fan interest, he was eventually... read more

Ermac is made up of the souls of many fighters. It should come as no surprise that he is one of the best all-rounders in the game. Just awesome.

This guy has a counterattack for every character up his sleeve.

Great moves and combos, great appearance, possibly the best magic power, and a nice history following the original trilogy and being shrouded in mystery in MK3.

  10. Mileena

Mileena is a character from the Mortal Kombat franchise who debuted in Mortal Kombat II. She is a clone of Kitana, created by Shang Tsung using Tarkatan DNA, which gave her the razor-sharp teeth typical of Tarkatans like Baraka. Mileena harbors hatred for Kitana and seeks to destroy her and assume her... read more

Mileena has great combos, a cool design, and her personality and background are also awesome.

Half beauty and half beast, I heard someone say. If she had a normal mouth, she'd be Kitana #2.

Didn't like her new voice, but she still rocks as a fighter.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Smoke

He made his debut as one of the original seven playable characters in the 1992 arcade game Mortal Kombat. Raiden has remained one of the central and most iconic characters throughout the franchise's history... read more

His best combo can make 42% damage. It's easy to use, and his teleporting is also easy to use and really useful. If you use it wisely, you can kill Shao Kahn and Goro really easily without being damaged at all.

By the way, I only played it for two days, and I already learned to use every character. I liked it.

He uses lightning like no other. He can do some serious damage in kombat.

He is the strongest in all Mortal Kombat. He is the true leader.

  16. Freddy Krueger

Fred "Freddy" Krueger is the primary antagonist in the A Nightmare on Elm Street film series. He first appeared in the original film directed by Wes Craven in 1984. Freddy is known for his burned face, red-and-green striped sweater, and his glove with razor-sharp blades.

  17. Cyrax

Cyrax is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series, who made his debut in Mortal Kombat 3.

I love to use all the different gadgets he has.

His net attack doesn't really allow you to jump over it like other projectiles, plus he is lethally fast.

His net and other cool stuff can prove a cyborg can beat ass.

  18. Jade

Jade is a fictional character from the Mortal Kombat fighting game series by Midway Games. She debuted in 1993's Mortal Kombat II as an unplayable secret character, presented as a green palette swap of Kitana, and became playable in Ultimate Mortal Kombat... read more

Jade is the prettiest, sexiest, and funniest. Of course, she's the hottest when she does her pole dance. Though I love her costume 1.

Nice to see Jade again. She kicks ass, and her new look is wonderful.

Awesome kick from her... love the speed.

Kitana is a fictional character from the Mortal Kombat media franchise. She was introduced as a playable character in Mortal Kombat II in 1993. Since her debut, she has appeared in most entries of the video game series and in other media, including the films Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat: Annihilation.... read more

Just started playing MK with MK9 for the 360. Tried almost all of the characters, but I just felt very confident and smooth when using Kitana for the first time. Definitely the best start I had with any character in a fighting game!

Man! She uses her fans and wins all the time.

He beat all of the gods and is a demigod. He is the strongest of all characters and has a lot of powerful weapons too.

Kratos' power is so unbalanced. I only lost one round on the challenge tower as him.

He may be slow, but he can dish out a lot of damage easily. I discovered a 42% damage combo with no meters used.

  21. Sektor

Sektor is a character in the Mortal Kombat fighting game series. He made his debut in Mortal Kombat 3. Sektor was a member of the Lin Kuei, along with Cyrax. Seriously, one of THE best characters! I really love his combos and his brutal fatality!

Hard to master, but when you do, everyone will wish they never fought you.

I really love his brutal fatality. Glad they brought it back.

  23. Stryker

Stryker proves you do not need ice balls or magical powers to kick ass. Stryker is the best!

Stryker DESERVES to be in the top 10, the best, not the worst! Screw ScrewAttack!

If you can master his special attacks, you can beat anyone.

Underrated character, high damage and good finishing moves. Would probably be used more if he wasn't an antagonist.

  25. Rain

He has the best combos seen so far, capable of inflicting more than 60% damage.
