Top Ten Most Overrated Rock Drummers

The Contenders: Page 2

21 Rick Allen - Def Leppard Rick Allen - Def Leppard Richard John Cyril "Rick" Allen is an English drummer who has played for the hard rock band Def Leppard since 1978. He overcame the amputation of his left arm in 1985 and continued to play with the band, which subsequently went on to its most commercially successful phase.

People think that just cause he has one arm and can play the drums that he is good.

He is a great drummer by far he fought and the help and support and his strong willing to play and his band members he really rocks

That's just rude man

22 Josh Dun (Twenty One Pilots) Josh Dun (Twenty One Pilots) Joshua William "Josh" Dun is an American musician. He is currently the drummer for the band Twenty One Pilots.

Not even rock, but still. Plays drum beats anyone could play. Even a 12 year old can beat him in a drum off. - naFrovivuS

Even though I'm not a big fan of twenty of pilots. Josh Dun is a good and creative drummer.

Ya'll suck and have no taste in music. Unlike other drummers who are just banging at their instruments, this guy abuses the drums with STYLE. This guy's drumming makes me wanna just start dancing in taco bell.

Josh dun is terrible. Seriously buddy rich wouldn't even
wipe his ass with his techniques.

23 Aaron Solowoniuk

He's the Godfather of Drumming. Bottom line.

24 Meg White (The White Stripes) Meg White (The White Stripes) Megan Martha "Meg" White is an American drummer known for her work with Jack White in the Detroit rock duo The White Stripes.

She is an extremely good drummer, not for the way she drums or her drumming skills, but her ability to write amazing songs. There is more to a great drummer than how well or how fast you can hit a thing with a stick.

If she blew quarters out of her butt at the drums it would be more interesting.

I played drums since I was 10. Meg White's drumming is so beginner. Heck she doesn't even belong in 35th place. She belongs in 200th!

This chick sucks

25 Buddy Rich Buddy Rich

Buddy Rich is the greatest jazz drummer ever

As a drummer, it's insulting to hear so many people call this guy the "greatest drummer of all time". It's like people calling Slash the "greatest guitarist of all time". There are metal bands with kids not even in there twenties yet that smoke this dude. I wonder if we will ever live in a world where mediocrity isn't worshipped.

Best Drummer Of All Time. Period.

That's like calling ZZ Top overrated. - naFrovivuS

26 Keith Moon Keith Moon

Moon is amazing. Whoever voted for him don't know drumming.

This comment is to short and simple, music is about hearing the bigger picture, don't just focus on keith moons down falls. Most drummers get drunk and do strange things.

He was the best. Maybe he was a jerk, I didn't know him, but that doesn't take away from his drumming. He (and Daltrey's scream) made Won't get Fooled Again. HisIs drumming on Tommy is the best ever. They took a recording of him playing the drums to a physicist once who proclaimed that playing the drums that fast was not humanly possible. You can't rate him high enough.

What? Keith Moon is awesome. Moonie and John Bonham are the drumming gods. I don't know why both are on this list.

28 Mike Portnoy Mike Portnoy Michael Portnoy is an American drummer primarily known as the former drummer, backing vocalist, and a co-founder of the progressive metal/rock band Dream Theater. Known for his technical skill as a drummer, Portnoy has won 30 awards from the Modern Drummer magazine.

Mike portnoy is quite possibly the best progressive rock drummer there is. He is absolutely full of himself and there is no denying that. The thing is, is that dream theater and liquid tension experiment, for the most part, are bands only appreciated by other musicians. And of course not everyone on this list is gonna be a tony royster jr or a jojo Mayer, but they were able to play what was necessary to resonate with their band most soundly. Can you imagine portnoy in acdc? He would have over played so much. It would be a constant drum fart in the background. Although I do believe Travis barker is awful. If everyone had the opportunit to see another drummer mimic travis's drumming with the symbols and hi-hat 4 feet lower and without violently rocking his head up and down they would find that Travis only has the talent of putting on a good visable performance.

What? Who put Mike on this list?

A Show-Off and an Overrated Drummer. It's good to see that Dream Theater didn't accept him back into the band, although Dream Theater isn't Progressive at all and sucks big time.

Overrated. He has ZERO dynamics, doesn't move out of his comfort zone, doesn't challenge himself, and plays the same way every song. He does the same fill over and over again: linear sextuplets (R L R L on snare and R L on bass). If you listen to any of his songs you'll hear it. He overuses the double bass not to mention I can do everything he does with one pedal. Super uncreative. Thinks he's the best around. Admired by amateur players who think he's a GOD. He plays a giant set because he can't sound well when he plays a five piece. The most overrated drummer of all time.

29 Peter Criss Peter Criss George Peter John Criscuola, better known by his stage name Peter Criss, is an American musician and actor, best known as a co-founder, the original drummer, and an occasional vocalist of the hard rock band Kiss.

Peter Criss is an absolute disgrace to rock music. If you watch any KISS performances during the farewell tour, Peter plays unbelievably weak. In Paul Stanley's book, he said that Peter's drumming skills had deteriorated so much that special effects had to be implanted in each drum to sound everything Peter hit the drum head because he didn't have the strength to play loud enough for the audience to hear without them

People keep acting like Peter Criss is the greatest thing that ever happened to KISS, when Eric Carr and Eric Singer were both better. No one would know who he was if it weren't for Beth.

30 Phil Collins Phil Collins Philip David Charles "Phil" Collins is an English singer-songwriter and musician, who has also worked as a record producer and actor.

One of the best

I really like his music, but people think Phil is the greatest ever. If you think he's one of the best, you've never heard Neil Peart, John Bonham, Keith Moon, or Danny Carey - ryanrimmel

OK, I can see why do most people think he's overrated because of his 80s pop albums. But just listen to the 70s Genesis albums (the ones with Peter Gabriel as lead singer) and you'll see he is one of the best drummers. - Nintendonix

31 Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) Nicholas Berkeley "Nick" Mason is an English musician and composer, best known as the drummer of legendary rock band Pink Floyd.

Nick Mason overrated... I hardly think so. Nick may not have mind blowing speed or do amazing solos but the man is a great drummer. Always on the beat, complements the Floyd sound perfectly and doesn't show off. And he is quite stellar when he has to be, like on Saucerful of Secrets and Time. If anything he is underrated.

Really? Really? Nick Mason overrated? Go listen to his fills on the opening for Time and some of his stuff in Echoes (my favorite song to listen to the drums). Then try and say it again.

I would say underrated, not overrated - theone90990

I'm a huge PF fan, and I don't think he is the best drummer ever. however, He is underrated, not overrated

32 Vinnie Paul (Pantera) Vinnie Paul (Pantera) Vincent Paul Abbott, also known as "Vinnie Paul", is an American professional drummer and producer who is best known for being a former member, and co-founder, of the heavy metal band Pantera.

Vinnie Paul and Dimebag essentially created Groove Metal in the late 80's early 90's and Pantera as a whole saved metal from being relegated to history books and Holiday Inn Express Shows...This Man and is contributions to metal and music in general are vastly underrated...

Vinnie Paul is not overrated! Anyone who says that he is, is not credible at all to even comment here.

I personally don't think he is great, but he is can groove damn well.

Vinnie Paul is not only a great Drummer he is a metal innovator,if you think Vinnie Paul is overrated you clearly play punk...If you don't like metal you shouldn't comment about a metal drummer

33 Ian Paice Ian Paice Ian Anderson Paice is an English musician, best known as the drummer of the English rock band Deep Purple.

If he's overrated, then so is Michael Jackson.

34 John Otto (Limp Bizkit)

John Otto is definitely not overrated. Does anybody even like Limp Bizkit anymore? Not really.

35 Daniel Adair (Nickelback)

Simple beats, everyone thinks they're great though, somehow

Wait people think Nickelback is great? I've never heard of ANYONE who actually likes Nickelback.
Also simple beats aren't by default bad it's all in how they're used (See Ringo Starr)
However Nickelback just sucks in general.

36 Sean Kinney (Alice In Chains)

This man really ruined some parts of good songs - CristhianR

Underrated for sure. Defenenly not overrated

37 Brann Dailor (Mastodon) Brann Dailor (Mastodon) Brann Timothy Dailor is an American drummer/singer best known as a member of the Atlanta, Georgia metal band Mastodon, in which he is the drummer, backing vocalist, lead vocalist and primary lyricist.

One of the best drummers ever. Pure talent.

He's an awesome metal drummer!

39 Chris Adler (Lamb of God) Chris Adler (Lamb of God) Christopher James Adler is an American drummer, best known as a member of the groove metal band Lamb of God.
40 Eric Carr Eric Carr Paul Charles Caravello better known by his stage name Eric Carr, was an American musician who was the drummer for the rock band Kiss from 1980 to 1991. Caravello was selected as the new Kiss drummer after Peter Criss left, when he chose the stage name "Eric Carr" and took up the "Fox" persona.

One of the most UNDERRATED and unrecognized drummers of his time. Eric Carr saved KISS's ass and is, in my opinion, one of the top 5 rock drummers of the 1980's, if not all time!
