62 John Lydon
John Joseph Lydon, also known by his former stage name Johnny Rotten, is an English singer, songwriter, and musician.
John Lydon (Rotten) is most famously known for singing, but he also recorded a lost gem in his solo album, Psycho's Path. He played all of the instruments, and turned almost anything into an instrument (Boxes, Toilet paper rolls, ETC.) He also performed many instruments with Public Image Limited. Taking into mind, someone who was only a singer (and couldn't sing when he started) recorded every instrument on psycho's path (guitar, bass, drums, keys, toilet rolls etc.) and is still making uncompromising music to this day, all without any training or lessons whatsoever.
63 Steve Vai
Steven Siro "Steve" Vai is an American guitarist, composer, singer, songwriter, and producer, born and raised on Long Island, New York.
Steve Vai is clearly one of the greatest musicians still alive today. Not only for his technicality on his instrument of choice, but also for the complexity in his general music theory. SALES do not determine a good musician, it is a persons understanding of music theory and to me, someone who stays true to the music. It is not about record sales, it is about what music is to you, and what your interpretation of it is. Steve Vai has always done exactly what he wanted to do and played what he wanted to play; meaning sales are not the basis of his inspiration.
