Beside JP and The Blair Witch this should be in the TOP 3 at least.
JP had the CGI, Blair Witch had the fake documentary, Avatar has the real 3D.
If even you you didn't like it you have to agree with that no movie showed you the 3D that Avatar showed.
7-8 years passed and it's visual is still the best of all the time. ( by the way after Avatar people started creating more "3D" movies.. )

Actually changed it for the worse instead of better.
I hate this movie, sorry guys - TwilightKitsune
"Actually changed it for the worse instead of better."
-By that, I mean nearly bankrupted Walt Disney Studios and influenced the quality of the films for decades to come (xerography) until The Little Mermaid. It's not a bad film, far from it; the reason it initially underperformed at the box office was an overblown budget ($6 million in 1959 dollars).
Everyone's trying to make a shared cinematic universe now.
I recommend this to anybody who is sick and tired of superhero movies. Great cast, fantastic musical score, and it's pretty realistic, grounded, and violent for a Marvel movie. It has a 70s spy thriller vibe going for it. there should be more superhero movies just like this one.
This should be higher. Even though there were previous fantasy films that won awards including Jurassic Park and Star Wars (1977). but unlike those 2 I mentioned this one won best picture! But sadly the academy despises us, Geeks! so nowadays movies like this no matter how well-made they are including films like The Winter Soldier and The Jungle book (2016). Well in the special Effects department. But I hope Logan at least, gets Nominated.
The movie that gave us the rowdy comedy movie. After this we had a whole bunch of adolescent shenanigans in such movies as Porky's, Revenge of the Nerds, right up to the likes of American Pie, Superbad and The Hangover. - jezza0
This arguably is the reason why we now have superhero movies clogging up the summer move schedule.
Recently there was a re-emergence of the musical film. This is the movie that kickstarted the new wave of musical movies.
This field our addiction of summer blockbusters going a million miles an hour.
This movie brought forward the so-called summer blockbuster season by 2 to 3 months. Since 300 we have had an assortment of blockbuster level movies coming out in the so-called dumping ground period of March/April including Fast & Furious, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Fast Five, The Hunger Games, Batman V Superman, Furious 7, Deadpool and most recently Bill Condon's Beauty and the Beast.
To put this into perspective, 10 years ago the only other notable movie that came out in the April/May period was Hot Fuzz, Edgar Wright's follow up to his cult classic Shaun of the Dead (also a Spring release) which did fine but wasn't the almighty blockbuster we see clogging up the Spring period now
First film with stereophonic sound, period.
