Best Animated Movies of 2017

The Top Ten
1 Coco

Coco is an amazing movie, and to be honest, it's really hard to pick it out from other animated films, but this one is just... incredible. It's very emotional and taught my parents (well, my mom at least, since we were the only ones who watched it from our family) the great value of family. My mom sometimes doesn't understand any of my favorite animated movies and shows because she's Indonesian, and I am too. But this one really taught her something. It taught me something, too.

When I was walking out of the cinema, I saw a kid hugging her mom because of the lesson from the movie. I'm glad that this is on the top list of best movies because the directors did a great job on this. Besides being a very emotional and heartwarming movie, it also brought me entertainment. Miguel is sort of like me... I used to have (well, not really 'used to') a huge passion for writing, doodling, and just all those creative things. My mom would hide my phone to stop me from posting stories, but it was because she had enough of the stress I had when I held that phone. This movie made me notice that writing or any other passion isn't more important than family. Family is more important! It's the best thing next to friendship. But... *coughs* I prefer family more because friends are sometimes hard to deal with. Who knows, maybe if you have a passion for something, you'll succeed at it with your family's support.

I'd like to thank the creator of Coco for making this movie. It really helped.

2 The Lego Batman Movie

I thought it was hilarious and underrated. True fans of the DC Universe and Batman will get every reference. My little brother loved it and saw it twice while it was in theaters. I was never a big fan of Lego movies until this and Ninjago came out. I can't wait to watch another new Lego movie in 2018! I hope it wins instead of Coco, though I don't have much hope for that since Finding Dory was kinda a flop and Cars 3 was okay.

This one made me laugh and had some hilarious jokes, and it was great even in its serious moments. Oh, I'd like to say that after this, I would pick Cars 3 - a million times better than the disappointment that was Cars 2. Disney and Pixar brought their A-game this time.

3 Despicable Me 3

Sooo good! This franchise isn't meant to be appreciated by cold adult critics. It's for the kids. The franchise sure does succeed in that domain, with Despicable Me 3 being the third biggest hit of the year (behind Beauty and the Beast and Furious 8 in the Worldwide Box Office, so far). It is funny and lightweight and always brings a smile to my face. Continue on, Illumination, with Minions 2!

I love this movie! It's just so amusing, like the first two films in the franchise. Way better than a lot of the films that came out this year, like Disappointment 3... er, I mean Cars 3.

4 My Little Pony: The Movie

Gonna be honest, I'd rather watch this than The Emoji Movie.

I can't get these songs out of my head...

It gave MLP some of its latest characters, and it also gave MLP my favorite song. I can see a rainbow.

5 Cars 3

Many were left disappointed by Cars 2, and based on what I've seen from the trailers, I think this could redeem the Cars franchise and be the best in the trilogy yet.

I really enjoyed this film. It's not as good as the first Cars movie, but it's miles better than Cars 2 (I don't consider Cars 2 to be a bad film at all, it's just that it's the weakest of the three movies). Even with its flaws, Cars 3 is still a very enjoyable family film. The kids will enjoy it the most. The animation is breathtaking, by the way, especially the mud in the Demolition Derby - it looked so real!

6 Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie

At first, I thought this was going to suck, ruining my favorite book, but a movie involving underpants got good reception!

Ah, my childhood, made into a movie. This is DreamWorks' only good film of 2017.

This was really fun. Not amazing, but not bad either.

7 Smurfs: The Lost Village

I thought it was underrated. It should have been ranked higher than the My Little Pony movie. I also thought it was better than Despicable Me 3. Choke on that.

I watched this movie in the theaters. I was prepared to hate it, but I found it to be a pretty good movie. However, it wasn't as good as the cartoon.

Much better than the first two live-action movies. It's actually watchable and is by far the best of the three.

8 The Boss Baby

I must say, it was better than I thought it would be. It was almost a masterpiece. Sure, it has some fart jokes, but if you just ignore those, you'll find the story amazing.

I liked it. I don't know why people don't. Maybe they're reading too much into the movie's "message." Just enjoy it for the funny, lighthearted movie it is.

I'm pretty sure DreamWorks saved their creativity and budget for Captain Underpants, but even then, I still liked it, and my family liked it too.

9 Ferdinand

The book was my childhood, and the author came from the small town of Garrett Park, Maryland, where I am from. John Cena is in it, so I am starting to have some mixed feelings.

I watched it, and I felt like I was there. The best film this year. I want more, and I want it now.

I used to love this film when I was 7, and I still like it now.

10 Batman vs. Two-Face

An awesome Batman animated film starring Adam West and William Shatner.

The Contenders
11 The Emoji Movie

Unpopular opinion, but this movie isn't all that bad. It definitely was a lot better than I expected it to be. The idea of this movie is generally original, and it has some nice references here and there. There are things I do hate, like how it tries to be hip and cool for kids a lot, and the jokes were generally pretty terrible. However, this movie has some fun moments and a decent storyline. It's not a great movie, but if you just watch it for fun, it's alright, honestly.

Stop the hate! This movie is better than any other movie!

12 Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
13 Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale

Dang, from what I've seen so far, the movie has been pretty successful and has received quite a lot of positive reviews! I may not have time to watch it in theaters again, but when it comes out on DVD, I'm definitely renting it!

14 Batman and Harley Quinn
15 Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie
16 Rock Dog
17 The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature
18 Loving Vincent

After seeing this, it is probably my favorite animated movie of 2017.

The world's first fully painted feature film.

19 A Silent Voice

This really is one heck of a good movie. It was really worth my time watching this tear-jerking film. Better be ready with your tissues if you're going to watch this movie.

20 The Lego Ninjago Movie

This was a good movie. It may not be as well put-together or as funny as the two Lego movies before it, but the humor was certainly cute. It was a little more serious, but that's true to Ninjago's style. I honestly loved how both Lloyd and Garmadon were portrayed. Most importantly, the core message was very sweet.

21 The Star

I love this movie. I don't care what anyone else says - unless they say the movie is good.

22 Leap!

This movie has a positive message and shows that you should always follow your dreams!

23 Mary and the Witch's Flower

It has yet to have an international release, but I'll keep my eyes on the lookout for this one online.

24 Thomas & Friends: Journey Beyond Sodor

This film is a 2017 animated movie, so I added it to the list.

Wow, I wasn't expecting this to be on the list, but I love it, so I'm voting for it.
