Top 10 Best Designed Gen 1 Pokemon

I was surprised when I saw the lack of lists based on Pokémon design, considering how often people rave about this topic whenever a new generation comes out.

The Top Ten
  1. Scyther

I adore how Scyther looks. It's a nice mix of cool and terrifying, and I like its blade hands especially.

He's really green, and green is a great color on creatures.

It is the best bug ever! At least from Gen 1.

  2. Victreebel

I just love everything about how this one looks. The colour palette is really nice, and the resemblance to a pitcher plant is cool.

  3. Articuno

Articuno, known in Japan as Freezer, is a Legendary Pokémon species. It is one of the three Legendary birds of Kanto, alongside Zapdos and Moltres. Articuno is an Ice/Flying-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It is the only one of the three legendary birds that I really like the look of. The simpler design works well in maintaining its majesty without looking stupid or generic, which is the problem I have with the other two birds.

  4. Haunter

Haunter, known in Japan as Ghost, is a dual-type Ghost and Poison Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Gastly starting at level 25 and evolves into Gengar when traded. Haunter is known for its ghostly appearance and mischievous behavior.

It is just a cool looking Ghost type Pokemon.

Haunter is so funny! I love its laugh.

  5. Beedrill

This is another case of a Pokemon looking awesome but being weak. I find it a shame, especially in this case, due to how brilliant its design is.

  6. Dragonite

Dragonite, known in Japan as Kairyu, is a Dragon and Flying-type Pokémon introduced in the first-generation games Pokémon Red and Blue. It evolves from Dragonair starting at level 55 and is the final form of Dratini. Dragonite is known for its kindness, intelligence, and powerful presence in battle.

I just find it to look absolutely adorable. It is possibly my favourite looking Dragon type in the whole series.

  7. Gengar

Gengar, known in Japan by the same name, is a dual-type Ghost and Poison Pokémon. It evolves from Haunter when traded and is the final evolution of Gastly. Gengar is recognized for its mischievous nature and its strong special attack capabilities.

While I find it to be a slight step back compared to Haunter, Gengar still looks absolutely menacing, especially with his wide grin.

The creator of Pokemon said that Gengar is his favorite.

Gengar is a very creative design.

  8. Mewtwo

Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon. Designed by Ken Sugimori, it first appeared in Pokémon Red and Blue in 1996.

Created by Dr. Fuji through gene splicing to clone Mew, Mewtwo is known in game lore as one of the most powerful Pokémon. In later games, it can undergo Mega Evolution into... read more

Mewtwo is down there! People, come on, a world destroyer is down here. They think Victreebel is better, but why? I think Mewtwo is better because it has feline features. I love the grey and purple. It is also powerful, too.

  9. Onix

Onix, known in Japan as Iwark, is a Rock and Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It first appeared in the Pokémon Red and Blue games released in 1996.

Onix has a massive, serpentine body made of large boulders and is commonly found in caves. It evolves into Steelix when traded while... read more

It's a real shame that Onix isn't very good, because its design makes him seem very formidable.

  10. Slowbro

As said in my comment about Psyduck, it's an art to make something look as derpy as it is, so what do you call it when it is more so?

Psyduck, known in Japan as Koduck, is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It is frequently depicted as being dazed due to persistent headaches. These headaches can trigger bursts of strong psychic power, which it cannot fully control.

I think that it's a true art to make something look as derpy as Psyduck. I can't help but love it for this reason.

  19. Vaporeon

Vaporeon, known in Japan as Showers, is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It evolves from Eevee when exposed to a Water Stone. Vaporeon is known for its mermaid-like appearance and its unique ability to become invisible in water.

Vaporeon is one of the few Pokemon that can pull off being cool, cute, and beautiful at the same time.

  20. Raichu

Raichu is an Electric-type Pokémon that evolves from Pikachu when exposed to a Thunder Stone. In the Alola region, it has a regional variant known as Alolan Raichu, which is Electric and Psychic type.
