Top 10 Most Overrated Pokemon

The Top Ten
  1. Charizard

Charizard, known in Japan as Lizardon, is a Pokémon species created by Ken Sugimori. It first appeared in the video games Pokémon Red and Blue and has since appeared in merchandise, spinoff titles, and various adaptations. Shin-ichiro Miki, who voices James in the original Japanese anime, also voices... read more

Charizard. Why is this thing popular again? In the games where it can be chosen as a starter, it's weak to the first two gyms, and yet it was still chosen the most - compare that to Bulbasaur, the least chosen, who doesn't have a weakness until the sixth gym. And somehow, Charizard is the one who most players chose. Pikachu may be Ash's starter in the anime, but the developers treated it as if he had picked Charmander at times, most notably during the Silver Conference battle against Gary; if you watch the episode, you'll notice that Ash doesn't ever use Pikachu during the battle. The final conflict comes down to Charizard vs. Blastoise. Sound familiar? It's very similar to the Champion Battle against your rival in the first generation. Charizard got two megas as well. The only other Pokemon to do so was Mewtwo, a LEGENDARY. Then there's Smash; Charizard made it to SSB4 as a solo character, while Squirtle and Ivysaur were cut. As someone who usually skipped Charizard in Brawl, I find that a bit unfair, though maybe that's because I'm biased. Either way, you know a Pokemon is overrated when your friends who don't play Pokemon call it their favourite and not Pikachu, the SERIES MASCOT. Charizard is absolutely the most overrated Pokemon, and it's going to take a lot to change that.

  2. Pikachu

Pikachu (Japanese: ピカチュウ) is a species of Pokémon that appears in video games, animated television shows and movies, trading card games, and comic books licensed by The Pokémon Company. It is the mascot of the Pokémon franchise and is widely considered the most iconic Pokémon. Pikachu is well known for... read more

We have over 400 Pokemon and still to this day, this yellow rat still hogs up everyone's spotlight in the Pokemon universe. Seriously, just like Team Rocket, Pikachu seriously does annoy it's audience. Ash Ketchum could have at least evolve it to Richu to create a new relationship because Pikachu is the prime example of the Pokemon franchise refusing to change which is why so many lost their interest with the franchise today. Even new generation of Pokemon games when Nintendo scrap out some of our favorites from the previous gen. To not make it's return, the yellow rat still remains in every single game that it's already annoying on to itself!

  3. Eevee

Eevee, known in Japan as Eievui, was first introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue. It is known as the Evolution Pokémon and has more evolutionary forms than any other species. Eevee can evolve into Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, and Sylveon depending on factors such as elemental... read more

Eevee is mostly popular on the side of the pokemon community that enjoys art, merchandise and things like making pokemon characters and ocs. It and it's eeveelutions are generally very cute, and have very simple but fulfilling designs. Not to mention, not only is it cute, but Eevee is a very unique pokemon, with a lot of potential. Eeveelutions can be very useful if you want a quick type fill-in for your team, but aren't the best for competitive play, which is completely fine! I think Eevee deserves some of it's praise, and it's understandable why so many people like it, but it certainly is overrated, I just feel like it doesn't deserve that much hate, because for the most part it's popularity is very reasonable.

  4. Lucario

Lucario was created by Ken Sugimori and first appeared as a central character in the film Pokémon: Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. It was later introduced in the main series games with Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. Lucario has since appeared in numerous sequels, spinoff titles, and a wide range of merchandise... read more

Yeah, Lucario get's a bit too much hype. Ever since day one they treated this guy like a prophecy. I mean yeah they're strong, but their design looks like a blue Hong Kong Phooey and just seems kinda like furry bait. There's been over advertised Pokemon before like Charizard, Pikachu, Mewtwo and now Greninja. But Lucario takes the cake when it comes to getting under my skin. I don't know, being a character and monster designer myself, it just irks me that this thing isn't a crappy fan character on deviantart or tumblr. This Pokemon is also the Sonic OC of the Pokemon series, I can't tell you how many lucario Oc's I've seen and no offense but they all look like garbage.

  5. Gardevoir

Gardevoir is a third-generation Pokémon species originally introduced as a Psychic-type in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It evolves from Kirlia and has a further evolution into Mega Gardevoir when exposed to Gardevoirite. Known for its powerful psychic abilities and strong loyalty to its trainer, Gardevoir... read more

It's overrated. Trying to defend is worthless.

Trying to defend it is worthless if your reasoning behind it is that "People hate it for reasons unrelated to the canon! That's wrong! " You're explaining why people dislike it, not why it's overrated. In fact, you're only adding to reasoning as to why it's overrated by saying no one actually dislikes it for what it is.

Looking at something based on the fandom isn't all about how the internet makes things gross. It's also about why it really matters.

People into Pokephilia should acknowledge that Gardevoir can be a man. Although I do prefer catching a female Ralts, I do respect anyone who prefer male ones. The reason for Gardevoir for being treated as a female because it's appearance is based on some Japanese figurine. It's hair is based on a bobcut which it's not usually shown on men. The skirt part is most obvious indicator that fans treated as female. There are other feminine looking Pokemon that are also on 50:50 sex ratio.

  6. Mewtwo

Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Legendary Pokémon. Designed by Ken Sugimori, it first appeared in Pokémon Red and Blue in 1996.

Created by Dr. Fuji through gene splicing to clone Mew, Mewtwo is known in game lore as one of the most powerful Pokémon. In later games, it can undergo Mega Evolution into... read more

... I understand that everyone thinks Mewtwo is a god, but they're right! This isn't overrated, in fact, it is underrated because many Pokemon fans say Mew is better! I mean, who wouldn't prefer Mew over Mewtwo as a companion, but when it comes to competitive battling, Mewtwo is SO much better! Has the second highest stat total in the game, and although it can't learn every move like mew, it CAN learn a hell of a lot of moves! It's hard to decide what moves to have on it when you could have Ice beam, Aura sphere, Psystrike, Thunderbolt, Shadowball, and many more. Mewtwo is the best Pokemon ever.

Seems like everyone loves Mewtwo but the only reasoning most people have is because he's the "original uber" and because he shared wisdom that was widely accepted already in the movies.

Competitively, he's really good. Of course that is also boring and the fact that he was originally a game-breaker is actually bad thing. I would say Charizard but it actually seems like everyone is turning on him instead.

  7. Blastoise

Blastoise, known in Japan as Kamex, is a Water-type Pokémon and the final evolution of Squirtle. It evolves from Wartortle and is known for the powerful water cannons mounted on its shell. Blastoise is capable of shooting water with enough force to punch holes through steel.

Okay I admit, I like Squirtle but YOU BET Blastoise is overrated!

First and foremost It's kinda unoriginal, since we already had a turtle in a different video game (Here is a hint: He was in Mario)

Second: If you're planning to use it only online battle, don't expect too much from It. Most of It's attacks (among them Earthquake what covers It's Electric weakness) are Physical but It's physical attack is really bad, not to mention It's incredibly slow, which is a bad news if you're up against Electric types, whose are famous for their Speed and even when it Mega Evolves It's Speed remains 78, meaning pretty much anything can outspeed It! Speaking of which, Mega Launcher might sounds cool, but you can't do too much with It. It powers up the pulse moves. So what? Someone sends out a Whimsicott what not just resists Water, Dark and Fighting moves (and immunes Dragon) but if It has Prankster ability (and there is no doubt It has) It can send the ugly, fat turtle packing before I could say: You only like Blastoise because It's a Kanto starter!

Last but not least, Charizard is not the only one to blame when comes to the Bulbasaur-line's unpopularity. I know a lot of people who choose Squirtle because "It has less weakness"

  8. Greninja

Greninja is a Water/Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation 6. It evolves from Frogadier and is the final evolution of the Water-type starter Froakie. In addition to the standard Torrent ability shared by Water-type starters, Greninja can have the Protean ability, which changes its type to match the... read more

People think it's so strong just because it has protein. Protein lets it turn into whatever type move it uses. While that might sound cool at first, then you see that it's hard for Greninja to take a hit, so even not-very-effective attacks can leave a big dent in it. Also, Delphox's defense stat may be only a little higher than Greninja's, but it has the best special Defense stat of the three. Also, due to Greninja's terrible defense, it isn't as good of a troll as Delphox. While Delphox steals your items and uses them against you, Greninja prefers to medal around with its typing, taking hits that quickly dwindle him down to fainting. All in all, Delphox is WAY better than Greninja.

  9. Mew

Mew is a Psychic-type Mythical Pokémon designed by Satoshi Tajiri. It was introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue and is notable for its ability to learn nearly every move in the games, with the exception of certain signature moves. Mew can also transform into other Pokémon using the move Transform.

Why does everyone love this Pokemon? It's design is unoriginal and Arceus is constantly hated because no-one can admit that he's far superior to Mew in every way (also, why is it called Mew? Is it a cat or something? )

Mew is awesome, learning nearly every move and being perfectly balanced make him a valuable team member if you're ever lucky enough to get him.

She isn't overrated and she is good too and everyone likes mew because she is good. Does that make sense.

  10. Magikarp

Magikarp, known in Japan as Koiking, resembles an orange fish with whiskers and is recognized for its weak battle performance. It first appeared in the video games Pokémon Red and Blue and was created by Ken Sugimori. Magikarp is a Water-type Pokémon that evolves into the powerful Gyarados at level 20... read more

Sorry but I think when people say this Pokemon is the greatest is either joking, will say it will evolve into a powerful beast that Magikarp isn't really loves fishes. When I played Pokemon Yellow when I was a kid it was a really useless Pokemon. Splash is just the same as Metapod's harden. Everyone who says that Magikarp is the greatest Pokemon ever should just shut up and just get a braincell and realise its just another Metapod.

Mohn from the PokePelago literally told me, "When Magikarp is trying to protect the Berries from Bug Pokemon, it sometimes ends up wreaking havoc on the field instead." Very fitting, considering it's scientifically proven that Magikarp is the creator of the Pokemon universe. Not Arceus, not Lord Helix, but Magikarp himself.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Cinderace

Just wanted to know everyone's opinions on it.

  13. ?

    Scyther

Scyther, I think is an amazing pokemon

  14. The Contenders
  15. Dragonite

Dragonite, known in Japan as Kairyu, is a Dragon and Flying-type Pokémon introduced in the first-generation games Pokémon Red and Blue. It evolves from Dragonair starting at level 55 and is the final form of Dratini. Dragonite is known for its kindness, intelligence, and powerful presence in battle.

I can one-shot Dragonite with Aurora Beam from a Suicune, and he doesn't even get STAB from Aurora Beam. Dragonite is very overrated, and the anime sorta proves it. After Iris catches that...um, unique...Dragonite, guess who the only Pokemon she uses in battle is? Can't really blame her though, Iris is a terrible trainer. Every one of her Pokemon besides Axew disobeyed her at one point. Come on. You couldn't have introduced a more pathetic trainer.

Dragonite is my favorite Pokémon, but I do agree it IS overrated. The 11th most overrated, though? What the hell? Dragonite usually gets a lot of crap, and a lot of people think it's the worst pseudo legend, but it's actually pretty good in competitive play, just don't get it near an ice type, but that goes for pretty much all Dragon/Flying Pokémon, so why Dragonite in particular?

Also a last thing, One of the most popular reasons for hate on this thing is because it's derpy looking compared to it's pre-evolution...

... You have got to be kidding me.

  16. Rayquaza

Rayquaza (pronounced "ray-quay-zah") is a Dragon/Flying-type Legendary Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise. It serves as the mascot for the game Pokémon Emerald. Rayquaza can Mega Evolve into Mega Rayquaza if it knows the move Dragon Ascent and is not holding a Z-Crystal. According... read more

Wow. Honestly Rayquaza Is non overrated. Rayquaza is a beast for competitive play and I also see people in real life talk about now he is underrated and its true. This 'Rayquaza is Overrated' think is so dumb. Teach your Rayquaza Ice beam. Beats All Dragon types. You name it. My Rayquaza has amazing base stats without Iron, Zinc, Calcium, and HP Up. Or honestly any of them. Rayquaza is my Favourite Pokemon and Rayquaza will take over competitive play because of me. I haven't lost in 2 weeks of competitive play ever since I got Rayquaza in ORAS. Ice Beam, Swords Dance, Dragon Pulse and My best move, Fly. It's easy man just think about it and do not act dumb. If you do not like that move set. Try my Favourite. Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Seismic Toss and Draco Meteor. That's Ice, Ground, Rock, Dark, Dragon, Grass, Steel, Fairy, Flying and Bug. That's 10 whole type Advantages.

  17. Onix

Onix, known in Japan as Iwark, is a Rock and Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I. It first appeared in the Pokémon Red and Blue games released in 1996.

Onix has a massive, serpentine body made of large boulders and is commonly found in caves. It evolves into Steelix when traded while... read more

Who the heck talks about Onix? Yes I admit Steelix is sorta overshadowed by him but in the Gen II games Steelix was pretty hard to get for he had to be traded with a Metal Coat. Honestly the only people I would think talk about Onix are Genwunners, and even they have "better" things to talk about... cough cough Mewtwo cough Charizard cough cough... Excuse me.

People just think Onix is good cause he got to battle, travel, talk, eat and practically live with Pikachu. Where is Steelix?

Onix is what you call a COPYCAT. Its one of those overrated Pokemon because its got the same type of noise and boring old shape but I like the rest of it

  18. Ampharos

Ampharos is an Electric-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It evolves from Flaaffy at level 30 and is the final form of Mareep. Ampharos can also Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos when holding an Ampharosite, gaining the additional Dragon type during Mega Evolution.

LISTEN! For a while Ampharos WAS underrated, but now it is! I hate most underrated pokemon videos because it is ALWAYS Ampharos! I mean he was underrated FOR A WHILE but now he is should be right up there with Charizard! Everyone always says how GOOd and underrated he is, but he gets a LOT more attention then he should!

How the hell is Ampharos overrated? If anything, he's under appreciated.

What is Ampharos doing here? He is awesome and strong! My second favorite Pokemon behind Empoleon.

  19. Arceus

Arceus is a Legendary Pokémon that first appeared in the 18th Pokémon movie, "Pokémon: Arceus and the Jewel of Life," where it was featured alongside other Legendary Pokémon. In the Pokémon universe, Arceus is referred to as "The Original One" and is believed to have created the entire Pokémon world... read more

How exactly is arceus overrated? How many arceus fans are there? There are very few. Yes it is constantly talked about, but only about how people hate it and how they are complaining about how it is overrated! Mew fans hate him because it took mews place as god. NEWS FLASH! Mew created Pokemon Arceus made the world inhabitable. They are two completely different things. If anything this Pokemon is the pure definition of underrated. Gamefreak never said it was god the fans just created a theory about how he is god, while it makes sense Arceus did not create life, he made the world inhabitable for MEWS creations. If that does not make it through to your thick skulls I don't know what will.

  20. Umbreon

Umbreon, known in Japan as Blacky, is a Dark-type evolution of Eevee, introduced in Generation II. Umbreon evolves when Eevee gains a high friendship level during the nighttime.

Somebody said it is the least useful eeveelutions... Really? At least explain why. It has a great defensive stats of 90/110/130 it has foul play to cover up for its offense, it can support using wish and heal bell. That somebody even said it has an obvious disadvantage against steel, what? Do you play gen6? Steel no longer resist dark and plus if a Pokemon resist your attack count as disadvantage, then every Pokemon has a disadvantage against a type include electross family. In fact, unbreon is actually a pretty good Pokemon and second best eeveelution in battles in my oponion.

Umbreon is the most overrated eevee. Just because it's the dark type all the people are screaming how cool it is and overshadowing espeon. So it's a wall, crap attack so if it ended up someone roaring it and sending it crying back and the 2nd to last Pokemon faints that Umbreon is screwed. I prefer Vaporeon and I wish it would get more attention. Mine could take hits and knock out a couple of pokes on the way.

  21. Oshawott

Oshawott, known in Japan as Mijumaru, is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V. It evolves into Dewott starting at level 17 and then into Samurott starting at level 36. Oshawott is known for using the shell on its belly, called a scalchop, as a weapon in battle.

Why is everyone trying so hard to say that this pokémon is underrated? It's much more popular than all the other starters of Unova and their evolutions combined. And every time I see a new art of Oshawott popping up, it get's easily hundreds of favorites/likes. Snivy by the other hand, barely get's any love. And Serperior is a victim to the infamous vore art. Again, everyone loves it because it's so cute and this makes it overrated for me. Snivy is underrated and get's a lot of hate thanks to an outdated meme.

SURE oshawott gets hate because of the ONE oshawott from the T.V. show, THAT

Oshawott is waird and crappy, but the game, he is best! I'm going for a oshawott sweap and I bet he would win, oshawot isn't just my favorite starter, he is my favorite Pokemon! I don't care if he is over rated! I LOVE HIM! Also, oshwott get hate from that ONE Pokemon show, but remember

ALL of the new Pokemon shows are crappy, gen 5 and 6, talking about you!

  22. Absol

Absol is a Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It is known for its ability to sense disasters, which has led to its reputation as a harbinger of misfortune. Absol gained a Mega Evolution in Pokémon X and Y, as well as in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.

Why exactly is Absol on this list? I don't necessarily find it overused or overrated at all. I think it gets the exact amount of praise it deserves, and its Mega Evolution was actually something it most likely needed. I for one really like Absol, and I don't see it talked about nearly the same amount as, say, Pikachu, Charizard, Eevee or Lucario.

Overrated? So what? This magnificent Pokémon is still one of my favorites, overrated or not. And how could it be ugly? This is the embodiment of majesty and grace, people, can't you see that? So apparently it's got "bad stats"? Ever heard of "leveling up", knuckle-heads?

  23. Mudkip

Mudkip, known in Japan as Mizugorou, is a Water-type starter Pokémon introduced in Generation III. It first appeared in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. Mudkip evolves into Marshtomp at level 16, and Marshtomp then evolves into Swampert at level 36.

Torchic is the adorable one that evolves into the original Fire/Fighting powerhouse, Treecko is the swag one that evolves into an epic Grass type beast that gains Dragon type when it Mega Evolves...

Mudkip is the derpy one that evolves into another Water/Ground bulk. But apparently people like that? I don't know. I don't have too much against Mudkip, but it's only popular because of some stupid meme on DeviantArt...(I personally chose Torchic. =3)

It's overrated because of a dumb meme and my cousin only started to love it because because of 'the meme' and swampert is pretty strong but mudkip gets more love than normal. It's just like any other starter:

Is cute in its 1st form

Has a awesome evolution that's pretty strong.

So why does so many other starters get hate?

  24. Typhlosion

Typhlosion, known in Japan as Bakphoon, is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It evolves from Quilava starting at level 36 and is the final form of the Fire-type starter Cyndaquil.

Typhlosion also has a regional variant called Hisuian Typhlosion, which is a dual-type Fire and Ghost... read more

Wow. The one who chose typhlosion was 100% a genwunner. Typhlosion is a better alternative to charizard. They have (really) same stats but they are things that make Typhlosion better. First it is pure fire. So he isn't half-killed by stealth rock. Second it learns the strongest special fire type move: Eruption. If Typhlosion is at full health (use it as a lead) eruption will have 150 power. Throw a choice specs on this thing and it will do MASSIVE damage to every pokemon that doesn't quad-resist it.

Love this thing, when I was 8 years old I won the heartgold game by sweeping with a Typhlosion that finished on level 90. I barely invested in the rest of my team (next best was level 68 crobat and level 66 dragonite). Obviously by strategy was atrocious back then but Typhlosion made it somewhat sucsessful in beating the game. Overall this pokemon is not overrated with pretty good well rounded stats but it's job can be done better with other special attackers like Houndoom and Delphox.

  25. Gyarados

Gyarados is a Pokémon species in Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise. It evolves from Magikarp, one of the weakest Pokémon. Gyarados has high attack power and strong special defense. Its typing is Water/Flying, or Water/Dark in its Mega Evolution form.

Ok, for anybody who is saying Gyarados dies in one hit from Lightning not everyone has the courtesy to run an Electric type on their team. Plus, only 3 moves that are Electric are actually viable in game. Plus most Water and/ or Flying types will die in one hit from an Electric attack like Thunderbolt, so what's the difference that's going to be made?

Does Ferrothorn suck for its 4x Fire weakness? Does Dragonite for its 4x Ice weakness? The fact that the only argument people can make is that "4x lightning weakness' is completely annoying.

And at least it's immune to Spikes, can fight back well against Grass types and has an Ability in Intimidate which works much better than Abilities like Torrent and Rain Dish

  26. Pichu

Pichu is an Electric-type Baby Pokémon introduced in Generation II. It evolves into Pikachu when it reaches a high level of friendship. Pichu belongs to the Undiscovered Egg Group and is No. 172 in the Pokédex. In Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pichu was often seen as a joke character due to its weak stats... read more

This should be in top 10 because Pichu is also probably in the top 10 weakest Pokemon. Also just like Eevee and Pikachu cute means extremely overrated. That's why my friend's favorite Pokemon is Pichu. Wait, and I'm not done. He evolve into Pikachu, the most overrated Pokemon in history. And last, but not least, Pichu was never meant to be a real Pokemon. That's why they don't make Pichu cards anymore and why Pichu and Pikachu are both basic.

So cute! 111! Ok seriously, can we pretend Pichu doesn't exist? You have no reason not to evolve it into Raichu, and it overall just looks like a small Pikachu with spiky ears. And other Gen 2 mons, like Chikorita and Mareep, are much cuter and stronger, especially when you evolve them.

  27. Sylveon

Sylveon, known in Japan as Nymphia, is a Fairy-type Pokémon introduced in Generation VI. It evolves from Eevee when leveled up with high friendship while knowing a Fairy-type move.

Sylveon was the first Fairy-type evolution of Eevee. Its design emphasizes affection and bonds with its trainer,... read more

This... THING sickens me. You took Eevee, a perfectly good Pokémon, and drowned it in super girly kawaii pink ribbons and bows and all that cringe. And you got this monstrosity. Sylveon is just good for weakening dragons but that's IT. I honestly think that a Flying, Normal, or Ground Eeveelution, or even a Fighting type, would be better than this. If there were Pokémon "Mary Sues", this would be the worst of them. It's shiny form is so uncreative as well, I mean you just switched the colors! It's hard to think that people actually LIKE this thing. Arceus bless those poor souls, guide them away from this evil.

I actually like Sylveon. I do agree that it's kinda overrated, and that's probably because of it's appearance, but it really is quite pretty. It's also a machine. Have a Sylveon with max level and the right moveset, and it can obliterate many dragon, dark, or fighting types. In my opinion, this is one of the strongest fairy types out there.

  28. Regigigas

Regigigas is a Legendary Pokémon known by the same name in Japan. It first appeared in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and is a Normal-type Pokémon. Its ability, Slow Start, halves its Attack and Speed for the first five turns of battle, making it a strategic challenge to use effectively.

I don't even know what to say here

It gets more attention than it deserves

Are people saying it's overrated and doesn't deserve any attention?

Regigigas is not overrated. He knows mega buster

Not overrated or underrated. Good stats and moveset, horrible ability.

  29. Meowth

Meowth, known in Japan as Nyarth, is a Normal-type Pokémon. Designed by Ken Sugimori, it first appeared in Pokémon Red and Blue and became widely known as the mascot of Team Rocket in the anime. At level 28, Meowth evolves into Persian.... read more

Meowth is NOT overrated I mean he's overrated with hate just because people wanna point fingers at team Rocket just. because they fool idietary Ash. Yeah I'm going to state my opinion so he joined Team Rocket because he was upset and angry. Plus MEOWZIE is more overrated then him just because she's female! She REJECTED home not once but TWICE and his character has changed since the older episodes and you can blame THAT on the creators who RUINED Japan's PERFECT show! So if you wanna point fingers at HIM for bad traits I bet YOU have done more bad things than him! (If u don't agree)

Meowtg is dumb! The worst! He can't even beat the weakest Pokemon! Not even a poor little chespin!
