This list describes the dumbest, most unpopular Pokemon Characters. I totally/partly hate all of these.

Just extremely boring character, Pokemon isn't a romance anime so don't try to turn it into one. Ash isn't even interested in you and you have zero chemistry. Her goal was Ash for the first season or so, yes because she was just happy following Ash around until she happened to come across Shauna who introduced her to that stereotype idol competition for girls. It's even better to not have a goal, or a vague one like Lillie or Chloe, or even something as simple as I want to travel with friends and live with my Pokemon, but your goal is a boy?
Does she grow out of? Not even, she SEEMS to at times and then has episodes focused on her crush or her final farewell, the supposed climax of her development, being all about kissing Ash and saying Ash is her goal and wanting to be more attractive for Ash (gross). And she has pretty bad scenes too, that episode where she thought Ash was going to confess to her, girls should be pretty, the entire farewell, the Ash I know can't be sad... She has good scenes too but no other main characters had that many awful scenes. A shame that a Pokemon main girl fell into that stereotype of "MC-kun I love for MC-kun I love MC-kun so much MC-kun" when none of them before or after did.
Ash Ketchum

Ash Ketchum, known as Satoshi in Japan, was the main protagonist of the Pokémon anime for its first 25 seasons. He travels across regions, competes in Pokémon battles, and works toward becoming a Pokémon Master. Ash frequently thwarts Team Rocket's attempts to steal his partner, Pikachu.

In the Indigo League, he was a real kid, a little cocky, excited, easily impressed, sometimes reckless but also emotional, curious, and relatable. He reacted to the world, to his Pokémon, to his friends. Small details, like humming a tune while marching, or getting flustered when something went wrong, made him feel like a real 10-year-old on a big adventure. That's what gave the series charm: you could see his personality shine through in little ways.
Later? Ash is more competent, more polished, and almost too perfect. He feels like a plot device. Early Ash had range. He could be scared, happy, frustrated, mischievous, or genuinely emotional in 22 minutes. Episodes like Electric Shock Showdown or the James fourth-wall moment captured his personality in a tiny window of time, and the humor, interactions with Team Rocket, and the little quirks made him lovable. Modern Ash often loses that nuance. He says "Let's get stronger!" or explains plot points, but you rarely see him having genuine fun, reacting to mistakes, or being expressively childlike.
Iris

Iris is a character from the Pokémon video games Black, White, Black 2, and White 2. In the original White version, she serves as the Gym Leader of Opelucid City. Say what you will about Serena, but at least she does remain consistent with her personality, such as having the same characteristics as Dawn most of the time, even though Serena is just airheaded (I wasn't really into the shipping culture among the Pokémon anime). That isn't the case for the main female companion of the Black & White anime, on the other hand, which undoes her characteristics from the games. Here, she has an obsession with Dragon-types to the point where it's her whole personality. Add to the fact that she constantly ridicules Ash due to him not knowing any better by using her catchphrases, "you are such a kid!" and "what a kid!"
The upsides? She's known to get along well with Dawn on some occasions, plus on one episode of Journeys, her character improved by a wide margin by becoming the champion of the Unova region, like her character in Black 2 and White 2. Still, her portrayal in the BW anime is nothing really special. I feel like Bianca and Cheren would have worked better for companions, but that's just me...
Misty

Mean to her Psyduck. That's the only thing that ruined her to me but it's enough to consider her among the worst. Ruins the point of the show for a cheap gag. Ash also teases her and retaliates to her remarks, that's what made their dynamic charming to many. With Psyduck it just feels like bullying.

Misty is the worst character of all. All she does is follow ash around and never does anything productive. If any case ash is always saving her. Come on she claims to be sweet when really she is the meanest person ever. She is always insulting everybody and thinks she is so pretty. Come on can she have some modesty. What really annoyed me was the fact that ash found the togepi egg but misty still persisted in keeping it and pushed ash out of the way when it hatched. She basically stole his Pokemon. Also why does she act like pikachu belongs to her. It doesn't. She is a brat and the worst Pokemon character of all. Why is she so mean to psyduck? A Pokemon trainer loves all their Pokemon and if it wasn't for him misty would have no Pokemon at all.
Cilan

Cilan may be annoying, but hating him because he replaced Brock is stupid. We all know Brock had to leave but it wasn't just because he stayed so long, it's because of Ash. Why I say that is because Ash is the only child, and he lives alone with his mother so he had no father figure whatsoever. But after he met Brock, Ash kinda started depending on Brock for everything. He looked up to him as a role model and even began taking on some of his personality traits. Eventually though, Ash started to mature, and then grew into his own character which stated giving him not much of big need to depend on him. So he left not only to become a Pokemon doctor but also because he knew Ash could handle things on his own unless he met new friends. And besides, when Ash met Cilan, Cilan didn't really act as a brother or father but more of a close friend. He may have not have as big of a relationship, but he was still important to the plot. And if they hadn't created Cilan, the viewers would've gotten bored of Brock anyways.
Paul

Ash's rival who's also a villain, because yes even the villain teams treat their Pokemon better, seemed to be a very interesting and promising character, but the show coddled the heck out of him, acting like Ash was too harsh on him and he just had different training methods. Ummmm, he's abusive, and Ash knows it better than anybody because he took Paul's former Chimchar under his wing and saw the poor thing suffer from PTSD. People often compare him to Silver from the games, but Silver wasn't excused for his abusive actions, Lance only took him under his wing to set him on the right path and held him accountable, and Silver actually changed his ways. That's why Silver's arc works, and Paul's just doesn't. He was promising but his writing left much to be desired.
Bonnie

Bonnie is a character created by Game Freak and Nintendo. She appears in Pokémon X and Pokémon Y as the younger sister of Clemont, the Electric-type Gym Leader in Lumiose City. I'd say it's the other way if around you ask me. I mean, sure Max is annoying but at least he was kind of nice and not so hyperactive all the time. Bonnie on the other hand acted wild and stupid. I know she's just a little kid but that's no excuse. They act like they have to make the series about stereotypical females. All the other years we had a competitive tomboy, sweet coordinator, cheerful girly-girl, and a wild jungle girl. In other words, unique females. Now, we have a ten-year-old barbie doll, and pint sized idiot.

I adore Bonnie, (not to mention her "catching" is extremely important to the plotline).
She is nothing like Max, which is ok, Max was annoying and rude and he was extremely smart and sarcastic, but we also get to see his nice side where he cares for his sister and his friends, and we get to see him grown to love Pokemon instead of just strategies
Bonnie is adorable, she's the voice of all the viewers, an adorable narrator to Serena's (annoying) monologue's about Ash. Bonnie's a child, and we see her learn about Pokemon more and more.
to be honest having a child in the show is always entertaining and undoubtedly adorable
Dawn

Personally, I remember despising Dawn at first. And why was that? Stupid propaganda and shippers that's what. With everyone commenting on how /awful/ and /useless/ Dawn was, I didn't really know any better and I agreed. It wasn't until I started watching the DP series that I understood how not awful and useless Dawn was.
Dawn is one of my favorite Pokemon characters up to date. And no, it wasn't because she was pretty or anything, but it was the character development she's been through. Unlike May, who managed to succeed in everything last minute (forgive me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since I watched the advanced gen, and I do like May thank you very much), I loved how Dawn was pretty much set to fail during the beginning. It showed that contests weren't easy. You had to work hard to reach your goals. And I believe that the writers did a great job with that for Dawn. During the beginning of her journey Dawn was overly confident, and determined to be a Top Coordinator. She got her first ribbon yes, but then she was on a path of failure. She lost /three/ contests. Three. In a row. And it really got to her. She felt like she wasn't good enough. Whilst Ash was succeeding, Dawn was failing, and she got depressed. She wasn't overly confident any more. A simple 'no need to worry' wasn't going to fix anything and she finally understood that. And it was through her journey that she grew, and I loved that about her.
Her contests matches weren't easy wins. I would say Mamoswine was a perfect example, as it was because of his disobedience that Dawn lost. And she still kept on going. And I remember watching the Grand Festival episodes, and feeling so so proud of this girl, because she's achieved so much. It makes me surprised when people call her a Mar Sue, because her flaws are so obvious. And it was through tough development that she had to overcome them.... read more
Harley

Revenge over a stupid cookie is one thing, but to hold a grudge over years and taking it out on a girl who only looked like the one who stole it? Talk about pathetic. All he does is get butt-hurt over May beating him, and no matter how many times May is willing to forgive him, he NEVER can. He's so sad that he dresses up as a little girl. Really, a baby outfit would be a better suit for him since that's what he all acted like. It's surprising he even had a friend (Solidad) from how huge of a self-centered prick he was.

I don't like this guy at all. He's a weirdo & he holds petty grudges against May. Plus he always goes out his way to humiliate her & get her to feel miserable. He gets butt hurt when May defeats him & he also does the most for attention. He sucks so much that I like Iris & Serena better than him.
Gary Oak

Gary is the worst character ever. Seriously, all he would do before was follow Ash and his friends, calling them losers.

I only watched episode 1, and I already dislike Gary. He sounds annoying.

He is cool! He plays his role best as a rival. He is anylike annoying but awesome and cool!

Even at 8 yrs old I knew this guy shouldn't be allowed to reproduce or have children because he was too stupid to have children.

Serena has good character development, like it or not. This guy is a total disgrace.

The Contenders

Alain

He's more competent than Ash as a trainer but he is so BORING TO WATCH. He's so dull, bland, and predictable because you know the outcome of pretty much all of battles. He wins. That's it. That's all you get. He only lost like 2 times I think and if he beats Ash, then that would make things worse for him. He's such a Gary Stu, the Tobias 2.0 if you want to get real of how much he easily defeats almost everyone he makes eye contact with. Ash if you have to lose to Alain because the writers don't want you to win leagues most of the time, don't beat only 2 of his Pokemon. I beg of yo u.. y ou can do better.

Even though I hate Serena more than Alain, I still hate that guy quite a lot! And no, I'm not gonna go easy on him and try to find positive aspects of his character like one of my favorite anime characters who I will not disclose the name of in fear of people comparing Alain to him. Anyways, if you wanna know how much people hate Alain, I looked at a forum on MyAnimeList.net discussing episode 38 of Pokemon XY&Z, and when I tried looking at the poll results for the episode, a huge majority rated it a 1 out of 5. BY A LANDSLIDE! No higher scoring had as much votes as the 1 out of 5 rating! 2 out of 5 was just the runner-up! Yup. Lots of people hated this episode because of Alain.
James

Really? I know TRio has lost their charm over the years and are just useless nowadays, but seriously he's nowhere near the worst get him off here!

Stupid voice, stupid personality, he's terrible. He's not even a villain, he's just there for little six year olds to point him out a how stupid he is.

I just feel poor for this guy. He deserves better than to be used as an annoying character for Team Rocket.
Jessie

Everyone compares Jessie to Misty when the two are actually different. Yeah, they are both tsunderes but, unlike Misty, Jessie had a bad life. And I know what you're saying "They both had terrible lives." Actually no, Misty just grew up with sisters who teased her every now and then. I mean, I know how it feels but that's no excuse to go around beating people up. Jessie on the other hand grew up in an orphanage and was forced to eat snow and mess like this. Not only that, but Jessie's a villain, which doesn't make her personality that strange. But Misty, you're a hero, so act like it!

I don't agree, Jessie had a bad life, I'm pretty sure her dad died and her mom disappeared trying to catch Mew. She was taken into an orphanage that was so broke she ate snow. She grew up and wanted to be a nurse but failed cause the school was for Chanseys. She meet James at Pokemon tech and got the worst score ever (with James. ) She is also mistreated by guys. She had a awful life that made her the way she is today, her and Misty is the most realistic.
Bianca

Only for her anime version. Agree with the comments saying she was willing to trade away Emboar because seriously? You trade your first partner Pokemon the moment a cuter Pokemon comes along? It really made her come across as uncaring and superficial. Yes in the games we trade blah blah but the anime works differently. It's a shame because Bianca in the games is a well-developed and likeable character.

God, I despise her. In the original games and the sequels, she's annoying. In the original Black and White, she's not ready to be a Trainer! She always has her dad hovering over her, including the run-in with her dad in Nimbasa City! Eventually, Elesa barges in, and resolves the situation. Good. She would be better off without her dad, anyway. Stupid daddy's girl. In the sequels, she's improved greatly, but she's still annoying. Especially the parts in Reversal Mountain where she follows you behind your back. And she always tries to be a smart person, but just comes off as a smart aleck! She's basically the Seymour Skinner of the Pokemon franchise.

Are you serious, charizard should not even be on this list. Ok charizard didn't exactly listen to ash at first but that was due to ash's lack of experience at the time. Now he and charizard are almost as close as he and pichachu are. So in my opinion charizard on this list is like saying that a magikarp is the most powerful Pokemon of all time. Seriously this is worst choice on this list that I have seen

I sense something, "overrated" Pokemon are universally hated while "underrated" ones are loved. Don't find any overrated, just had to say this. Also, if it wasn't for the anime, Charizard wouldn't be my #1 favorite Pokemon, though still top 10 worthy. Felt so sorry for him that even when he went Maverick, I still felt upset.
Burgundy

This brat should be ranked higher! She's so annoying. She yells in practically every line she has, and sometimes adds French at the end of her sentences! What is the French equivalent of a weeaboo? That's her! She's so pathetic she follows Cilan just to try and harass him, but she always fails at it. That's not all she fails at, though. She's a terrible trainer, never winning a single battle.
BW Ash may not be great at battles, but he has a much better track record than her 0 wins and 10 losses. She should release all her Pokémon, not Ash. He's a way better trainer than she is, and she's terrible at being a connoisseur, too!

Why is Georgia even friends with her?! She's so annoying! She thinks she is so strong while it's quite obvious she's the weakest trainer of all time. She also thinks she's too good for everyone, even herself. All these tiny elements are what makes her annoying. Also, she lost to Trip's Serperior, with two moves, one of them being an attack that is not very effective on it. She needs to stop entering tournaments and actually get better!
Kenny

The only bad thing about the D/P anime (aside from Paul's redemption. He reminds me of these guys who bully the girl they "like" and get jealous when she interacts with another person (not even a potential love interest) who treats her way better. I really hope Dawn doesn't end up with that toxic boyfriend in making. And nobody calls him out. What kind of an example is this for young kids? He's also not that interesting, revolves around his crush too much and that's boring as sin, especially in Pokemon. Even Harley is better because he at least is treated like a villain and not a potential ship partner for May. Even SERENA is better because she at least has some good moments and isn't as mean spirited as Kenny. Let alone being below good characters like Ash, Iris, Bonnie, DAWN, Gary, Alain, James and Jessie. Kenny doesn't even compare, and doesn't deserve to be in the show.
Georgia

This girl is annoying as hell. She's rude and eats other people's food. She's like a cross between Harley and Ursula, she become a "Dragon Buster" just because she got beaten in a land where dragon Pokemon live. Please. And then every time she loses a match she'll be like "It's not a dragon type so it doesn't count." That girl is freakishly obsessing over dragon type Pokemon

The thing that mostly annoys me about Georgia is how little sense her character makes. She got defeated by a Dragon Pokémon once, so now she dedicated her life to beating dragon trainers?
Then she runs her big mouth every time and demands to fight against dragon types only, WITH her super effective ice type Pokémon. And whenever she's up to fight against a pokémon that her Beartic is not super effective against it's "not worth her time".
Demanding you only fight pokémon when you have a type advantage seems pretty cowardly to me.
And besides that she's basically the same person as Burgundy. One of them was already plenty annoying, why the writers decided to introduce one for Iris AND Cilan is beyond me.
Tobias

Not even a character, just a plot device to make Ash lose. Ruins the legendary status of Legendary Pokemon too if some random guy with no backstory can just casually train them and bring them to the League. It almost feels insulting to Ash, like they had to create a plot device that makes no sense just to have him lose. Couldn't it be a very strategic trainer like Katy from the Hoenn League, especially since DP had a lot of strategy and thinking into its battles? Couldn't it be somebody with maybe Pseudo Legendaries or strong Pokemon but not outright Legendaries? Or somebody with the perfect counters to Ash's team, maybe because they read up on their opponents before fighting them? Anything that felt less insulting than Tobias?
Clemont

Who put Clement on this list?!?!?! Clement is the BEST traveling companion out of all of Ash's XY companions. Sure, he has a bit of annoying catchphrase in my opinion but he totally makes up for it when the invention he makes explodes, it's just hilarious! That doesn't mean all his inventions are totally useless, he just needs to practice more!

I've always found him to be so annoying.

Well, nothing about him really makes me dislike his character. But since he stopped Cilan's "EVALUATING TIME! " I kinda respect the man! Right on, Stephen <3 Favorite B/W character due to that.

Of course, he's the one who made Zebstrika use normal-type moves when it's pure electric-type. This idiot should have known better.
Max

I hate him the most because he's such a know nothing know it all. He thinks he knows everything about pokemon and in his FIRST appearance, he started saying that Ash was weak and that he could have done better. I mean he didn't say it in those words, but that was definitely the gist of it. Normally, I wouldn't hate him just for that since he was just a kid and didn't really know how difficult battling was, but even AFTER he traveled with Ash and May and saw how hard they trained and how difficult coordinating and battling were, he STILL looked down on them for only getting in the top 8. When he bragged to misty saying that may wouldn't have gotten so far without him, I wanted her to punch him. I mean, she's a GYM LEADER, she knows how hard people train, instead, she just tells him to be EASIER on may. And in another episode, I can't really remember much except for the fact that he was left alone for some reason with all the pokemon and May's munchlax was there and he WENT TO SLEEP while the pokemon were eating. He KNEW munchlaxs appetite and left them ALONE. obviously it ended up in a fight and some of the pokemon went missing, but max was NEVER called out on it. I mean, even if max didn't have firsthand knowledge on munchlax, surely "someone who knew all about pokemon" would have known
Brock

Brock really gets on my nerves. First, he falls in love with every good-looking girl he meets, except the main character ones, which makes him look really creepy - like some stalker or a guy who would wait for you in a dark alley. You get my drift. This also makes him seem very superficial because all he seems to care about is looks, given that he always falls in love at first glance.
His family is also a mess, and he's no better. His always-absent parents (even they don't care about their load of kids) left him in charge. Then, he leaves his siblings behind when he leaves for the last time, with nothing but the next oldest brother in charge - who is basically another Brock in both looks and behavior. It's like the writers didn't care enough to create an individual character.
Thirdly, his appearance - with his military-colored clothes and seemingly non-existent eyes - is not pleasant to look at, in my opinion. I've seen enough of him to never miss him.
Another point is that he specializes in rock types, which I find to be the dullest and most uninteresting type you could focus on. I mean, rock types - like Brock himself - don't seem to be the most intelligent ones. In fact, they seem to be the least intelligent, more like mindless brutes without the combat knowledge that fighting-type Pokémon have.
His lack of personal development (both in intelligence and emotionally) can be seen in the fact that he seems much older but still travels around with a bunch of kids who are a lot younger than him. The age difference might not matter if they were all adults, but when they're still kids and teenagers, they are usually worlds apart.
Dawn's Piplup

Very obnoxious & stupid. At least Pikachu has shown that he can deal with Team Rocket on his own. But this self-centered dumbass only knows how to scream when given a chance to show itself to Team Rocket. And it so friken bratty & mostly remains bratty though out the show. To this day I'm confused as to why she didn't choose Turtwig over that brat since how Piplub acted around Dawn. Also his reason for not wanting to evolve is the most stupid and illogical reason to not want to evolve ever. Seriously, just cause you evolved how would that magically make Dawn forget the moment they meet?

This thing is terrible. So gible is trying to learn Draco meteor (I think it's called) & unintentionally always hits piplup. What does this do? Talk to him about it? Ask him to not do it anymore? No. This douchebag imagines him getting heavily scolded by ash & dawn while getting heavily praise by them & grinning bigly about it. He imagines a new group member getting hurt mentally FOR SOME ACCIDENTS! Wish this thing got killed! No wonder a lot of Pokemon from other trainers were unfriendly towards it. They can sense the jerk within him. Also a pretty pathetic Pokemon on its own. Can't even deal with team rocket on its own, & has to resort to screaming to get everyone else to notice them. Jessie, James, & meowth where right on that episode when they said that piplup can't do anything on its own, & he proved it himself. What a dumb@$$!
Cameron

Cameron is an idiot, because he was always assuming things. He ASSUMED that trainers only need seven badges, because he thought the eighth badge was only awarded to the champion. He ASSUMED that he did not need to register for the league and almost did not qualify. And he ASSUMED that a full Pokémon battle only consisted of five Pokémon. And yet, he still defeated Ash. What the hell!
I mean, it's like if some lazy college student never went to class, played video games most of the time, ASSUMED when his assignments are due and ASSUMED what day exams are held and somehow gets A+. What a load of bull!

Always and forever annoying! I hate him, not only did he become the worst characters in the BW anime, he is (kind of) like a cheater, he stretches his headband, and it lets go of it so he can have an idea. What is that stupid headband made out of that gives him a damn idea? A buzzer?! Buzzjoy! Nope, not only that, I just can't stand him any More.
