Top Ten Saddest Naruto Back Stories and ChildhoodsNaruto can have both funny, and sad moments. Moments where characters talk about their traumatic pasts and how they've changed dramatically and how they wish that the pain would end... Some of the back stories can be very relatable and may have you in tears...
His mom died when he was a baby, then his dad lied that she hated him which was untrue. His dad tried on multiple occasions to murder him, he was treated like a monster, had no friends then his Uncle, who Gaara thought loved him, didn't.
Gaara's is the saddest. I was a kid when I first watched the episode with my brother, and I had the toughest time holding in tears. I wanted to be his friend and hold his hand. Now, re-watching it as an adult, I wish I could adopt the cute little kid. The story only gets sadder when he realizes that the only person who he thought cared for him, hated him.
Everyone he knew hated him. But there was only one person which turned out to hate him too. But his brother and sister loved him actually but it turns out his father just took that away from him and tried to kill him lie 8 times. Then everyone called him a monster and even people rejected his medicine that he had to build courage to go and try to get it.
Gaara, was a seed. A seed that would grow into a strong oak. An oak to rest on, and admire. This seed was then corrupted by a man who had little to no virtue, and only saw his son as an opportunity. Granted he did finally reason with his past and forgave his father, but for a long time, that magnificent oak was a ravenous weed. (Still, I don't think anyone can deny that he dealt with this burden like a badass)
How can anything be sadder than being forced to kill your clan and family, especially since he had always been their pride? Itachi's pain never receded. After Shisui's death, Itachi had no one by his side. He lived his life as a double agent and met his end at the hands his little brother's hands. He protected Konoha at all costs, even if it meant that he would be scorned. Itachi is an unsung hero.
Most kids in Naruto lost there parents, but having no other choice to kill them? And all your friend, the rest of your clan, leaving only your little brother who hates you. That's a lot to throw at one kid. Enough said? Enough said.
He is a very kind man who sacrifice everything for his village
even if it meant killing the ones he loved most. He suffered and knew sasuke was suffering. I have a life similar to obito so I
can't even imagine killing almost my whole family would feel like
Itachi had all of his childhood friends die, mostly before his eyes and he even awakened the sharingan at 8 when the first of his friends was killed before his eyes. Then he was mentally destroyed between having to choose between his family and a secret organization and his (all of which completely used him to get information from the others) and eventually was forces with a3 way choice
Option 1) be obedient to the hokage and wait to try and reason with the uchia- potentially leading to a war
Option 2) be obedient to danzo and destroy all members of his clan and family- leaving solely behind his youngest brother sasuke
Option 3) be obedient to hours farther and have a full on war against the village and have his dad become the new hokage
Have you seen the itachi's story: Light and Darkness? It's some pretty sad stuff
No one wanted to be his friend and he failed to graduate the academy three times. The only person who understood him was Iruka.
Everyone in his village:Ignores him
That is the definition of a miserable childhood.
Naruto was born like Gaara with a dangerous creature hidden inside his body his parents gone leaving him alone, sad, and scared. Everyone hates him scared that the demon fox will take over his body and attack the village again. He then becomes the class clown in order to get rid of the pain and hopes to achieve his dream of being the 5th Hokage.
His childhood was so sad and depressing. It's the moment like this that make me think the real villains were the villagers because had it not been for their prejudice and hatred, many of the characters wouldn't have turn evil.
Was going to vote for Gaara but he's #1 so I picked kakashi I picked him because first obito dies then run dies by suicide not to mention his father also committed suicide his sensei was killed he finally is happy when he forms team 7 but then they train under the sannin. And after that he finds out obito is alive but is a bad guy, then obito is good but dies. This guy's life is trash his Former team died his father died his new team left him what's next!
P.S. sorry for the run ons
Mother died when he was very little. Father was hated by village and committed suicide when kakashi was 4 or 5. He found his fathers body. Teammate obito dies to save him. Other teammate Rin kills herself on his chidori. Suffers nightmares and PTSD of her death. Joins ANBU at young age. His sensei the fourth hokage dies. He becomes the last surviving member of his team. Finally gets a genin team and becomes happy. Sasuke defects and leaves. All his students become apprenticed to sannin. No romantic partners. Stares at the memorial stone for hours each day.
His motger died when he was born, his father committed suicide when kakashi was 4, he saw his best friend die in front off him daying that he would protect rin, rin committed suicide jumping in front off kakashi's chidori, he can't speep because in his nightmares he see rin die, suffered ptsd, his sensei died, so now he is alone, sasuke betrayed the village, he finds out that tobi is obito, and then, wheb obito return good, he sacrifices himself for save him and his team...no girlfriend.
One of the most tragic pasts
Itachi in my opinion had it rough. Gaara and Naruto had similar childhood, though Gaara was feared and Naruto was despised, they both were lonely. But Kakashi was on another level. Even after facing so much darkness, he was still on his right mind.
Nagato saw his parents die right in front of him and he was helpless to do anything. With no parents he had to go door to door for food until he found two friends and a dog. The dog grew on him. One day the dog died in an explosion. On that same day he saw his best friend die. He created the akatsuki and killed master jeriah. He felt bad about it but didn't show it
I think nagato was the one that had the saddest backstory. He not only saw his parents die right in front of him, but he saw the ecxact same thing happen with yahiko too.when he had nothing, he had pain greater than naruto's. after all he was named pain when he created the akatsuki. I think Hanzo deserves to be dead. He was hungry and sad until two of friends showed up and came to his aid
Nagato has it the toughest. After all he is pain himself
His nickname is Pain. BOOM
I like how the list is, and Sasuke should be third. Now I'm not saying what happened to him and his clan wasn't bad, it's how he was after that, which leads to why I think he should be third on the list.
Sasuke had admirers, and people who wanted to take him in. This kid was stranger who was brought to the Leaf Village, and they accepted him right away. While almost everyone wanted to get close to him, he pushed them all away and let himself to continue being hurt.
He didn't have to work to earn those people's trust like Naruto did, and he had a family who loved him unlike Gaara, who was going to be killed by his uncle who was ordered by his father to do so. So even though Sasuke lost everything he had with the Uchiha Clan, he had the chance to start a new life with people who cared for him, which is something that Naruto and Gaara always wanted.
I do like Sasuke a bit, he is cool, and him wanting to get revenge on his brother seems reasonable. He would've been be ...more
How on earth is Naruto story sadder? Sasuke was neglected by his father and then used as a replacement. The brother he loved and adored murdered his clan and then showed him how he did and then made him feel worthless and pathetic. So he strived to kill his brother because of his pain and solitude. He had to live with all the memories and pain. Then he abandons his village and is branded a traitor, he finally kills itachi but then learns the truth. Which makes him feel guilty 4 killing his brother. Then the good memories flood in making it harder. So he wants to destroy konoha for causing such pain to the uchiha. Then he has to sever the bonds he had and when his brother reanimation comes he just loses his brother again because his brother still wants to protect the village. And through all his darkness and hatred he decides to protect the village..so his pain is unbearable he is alone. And the fangirls and admirers he had didn't count because that were just people who admired him ...more
He was just practicing his jutsu and comes home to his whole clan dead,And his brother made him rewatch the who thing. Tragic.
His clan was slaughtered by his older brother(But then again Itachi really didn't have a choice as he had to save the hidden leaf),he was being chased by Orochimaru and eventually joined him to get stronger,He killed Itachi only to learn what he had been told was a lie and he learned what actually happened so then he wanted to go destroy the hidden leaf.Seriously I hate when people say he's emo because he went through all of that and is of course upset.-DarkBoi-X
Obito's story was really too sad, he did all these things just for his love and to create a perfect world, kakashi became totally cold hearted but obito as a villain still had feelings like when he created the whole scene of yahiko's dead, in the end he said you will live together again in that world, he said to naruto that he will make him hokage in that world, his memories of rin, his death was all really sad, he did all the things but in the end he came back and died for naruto, he was just like Naruto, Naruto had iruka, 3rd, kakashi, and Jiraya sensi who made him something but obito had no one, he was all alone, Rin was his light, his world... Too sad, Itachi's story, then Obito's story, jiraya death, then gara's story, guy sensi past, neji's death Asuma death then others
Obito was a cute charming kid who just happened to be a late bloomer. On top of that his crush likes his rival. He's always helping others, has a dream to become the hokage, and he's true to his friends. In the end he inspires Kakashi to live by the morals he does today. He was his hero. When he finally awoke his sharingan and had it good he "died". At first he was all alone, but in the end he died a hero with a new friend...Kakashi, who he gives his eye to. But he gets dragged out by Madara, very weak and trapped. All he wants to do is go home with his friends. He thought Madaras Tsukinome was a stupid idea. But Madara knew he would believe if he experienced the pain he drilled into him. Obito probably could've done something to stop the situation from happening, but he was trapped for years, and had hips childhood taken away. When he finally gets out he sees Kakashi killing Rin. He finds out the truth later and blames it on the cruel world, but his anguish is displayed when he ...more
Grew up alone. He was nice to everyone and when he was finally fitting in, then Rin is captured. He saves her and then kakashi losing half of his body. After that, he is used by Madara and then have to see Rin die at the hands of Kakashi. Then, he endsas scump and nobody ever remembers him. He dies hated by both his friends and his enemies.
He almost had one of the things he wanted which was respect from his peers but then he lost everything.
As a child he's seen his mother get killed by his step father and has had people chase and try to destroy him because of his ice powers leaving him poor and alone. Then she meets the man that changed him, Zabuzza and begins to feel protective towards him even though he doesn't like treating people like they're humans.
Cry haku cry. you got the worst childhood here but you can't even be higher on this list
I think Haku should be a little higher in the list
His father tried to kill him(Seeing a pattern here.)And then is only used as a tool.
I voted sasori because I just felt what kind of pain he feels growing up without recieving love from parents, just like me growing up in a broken family, as a child I just can't understand the vast emptiness I felt inside. Until now I feel like a puzzle with a missing piece. Sasori smiles but you can see the sorrow in his eyes just like me.
His parents were killed when he was just a kid, by Kakashi's father. His grandma, not eager to say the bad news, told him that it was just a long mission and they would be back soon. But he found out on his own that they weren't. She taught him puppet art, and he makes a puppet mom and dad so he can be hugged again. Then at his death, his grandma used his puppet parents to attack him, and even though he could easily dodge it, he had this one last human emotion where he wanted to embrace them one moe more time. With swords in his heart and parents holding him.
Sasori had it so rough as a little child his parents died, turned his best friend to a puppet, what a sad life a 5 year old has to endure and on top of that he hated living so much he turned himself into a puppet and he wanted to die when chiyo killed him
Sasori had to live his whole life without his parents and turned his only friend into a puppet.
Kabuto's backstory is actually so sad!
When he was thanking the mother constantly, it broke my heart.
The fact that the mother doesn't recognise who he was, that was upsetting because the mother was the one to give him an identity, and that to be taken away again, is painful. He has no idea who he is, has no identity, no nothing. He was alone from the very beginning. All he ever wanted was to find himself, know what who he truly is.
Danzo literally ruined his life by trying to dispose kabuto and the mother. How tragic must have that been.
The way that he was thanking Mother and that when Mother didn't recognise him. And also the fact that he always checks his clock if it's 9 pm and says "I would be sleeping by now"
So sad,I loved that guy
Rock Lee was laughed at by his peers for not having genjutsu or ninjutsu. So what? You shouldn't pick on anybody! I'm glad Lee showed them they were wrong about him.
How is bone man or what I like to call him the boner sadder than rock lee I am disspointed
His eyebrows hide his pain
He proved everyone wrong
Come on guys Kimimaro's story is so sad. He was feared by his clan, who kept him in a jail cell, and then they all died, and then he met Orochimaru, who he thought he was important to, but he wasn't at the end. Not to mention that he literally died from a fatal illness. Kimimaro just wanted to feel wanted.
At the end... He realized nobody show him true love
I was gonna vote for gaara but kimimaro is here he literally was in jail as a little kid and fought for orochimaru till death boi
His brother died at a young age, and more that I'm too lazy to explain.. He should be about #16
Honestly surprised no one has thought about him yet, he sees his brothers and family members die all the time and then when he finally finds someone to talk to (hashirama) the 2 families pull the 2 a part just because of the last name. Then his only brother left gives him his eyes because he was gonna die anyway...so underrated
He lost three brothers in his childhood. And the last brother he loved deeply was also killed. He truly wished for peace. But His life was ruined by BZ and Kaguya.
Guys he had it way worse than sasuke
I think Neji had a sad past; I mean he witness from a very young age that fate was chosen as soon as an individual is born. (Which is sadly true in our current world today). He witnessed his father's death and the discriminatory system of his tribe, which had a great impact on him as an individual. Neji is an underrated yet brilliant character that deserves to be at least in the top 15!
He find out that his father died when he was 4 years old, he was treated as a slave, then began to feed hatred against the main branch, For years he was driven by a fatalistic belief that his and everyone else's fates were determined from birth and were inescapable, until he fights Naruto, then he started to believe that he had a chance at changing destiny, his goal was to change his destiny, but sadly he died (and his death was so horribly written) for a meaningless hand-holding moment
So sad. Lost his father and began to feed a hate for the main clan family.
Sad childhood. father died so early!
Konan should be ranked before Karin Uzumaki because she was almost killed and of course if Orochimaru saw her Paper Release when she was still a kid, then maybe she and her friends were with Orochimaru by now!
Konan is a kunoichi of the akatuski and the hidden rain. She was a war orphan with her three friends chibi, nagato, and yahiko. Though yahiko and chibi died they still continent their organization call the akatuski. But instead of yahiko being the leader nagato took over as leader.
Her mother was murdered for chakra. She was next but managed to escape and joined orochimaru for protection. She is still with him so 😢
... my favourite character
her life is so sad and nobody even notice? I knew she wasn't going to be in the top tens but she should shes so misunderstood honestly. Brother dies, Dan dies, jaraiya dies, and Hashirama as well they were really close when she was young so had to put him on the list. She lived most of her life thinking that she was cursed.
I felt so bad for her... How Orochimaru had killed her younger brother and her beloved and how it's changed her...
Of course her backstory is nothing compared to Gaara, Naruto, Sasuke, Itachi but she got really a sad childhood, I mean do you know what it feels like to have a father that always look down to you?, a father that hates your existence, that it doesn't matter to him if you are dead or alive, not just a father but a WHOLE CLAN that looks down to you, and where is Hinata's mother? She is either dead, (poor Hinata), or... she doesn't care if her little daughter is treated poorly, which is even worse.
Do you know what it feels like to find yourself living everyday of your life with a sibling that wants to KILL YOU? Not blessing life I guess

She does have a sad past than most female characters I would call her the third female one with the saddest past but she is no where near what happened to sasuke, Naruto, gaara, etc.
For me. Hinata, Gaara, Sasuke, Obito, Naruto and Konan are the saddest. But Hinata's backstory really hits me the most.
Never having a father and being bullied he's been sad and left alone. But when he meets a man named Kaiza who saved him from drowning he begins to feel loved and is finally happy and always laughs when around him as if he were his father. Kaiza then DOES become his father as well as a hero. But when Kaiza is captured, tortured and killed by Gazo Inari changes and becomes lonely and quiet never laughing or rarely smiling with his father always on his mind.
I don't see any true fan here. This guy obviously deserves the 1st place on the list. Itachi's pain is nothing comparing to this guy's burden. Well he didn't have brother's issues anyway. I won't say anything. This guy 's the embodiment of paracetamol imao. What a sacirifing? A true heroic anime character that gives us a life lesson.
Killed by the man he respected for no actual reason
Shisui is the best friend of Itachi so his back story it’s probably interesting and we don’t see very much if shisui at all
His father was the joke of the village and nobody respected him. He trained his hardest and kept pushing himself past normal limits to become a respectable shinobi. He saw his father die for something he truly loved and cared for and he was willing to do the same when he fought Madara.
He is the most relatable character and the realistic motivation for all the loosers.
She was killed at so small age. She had whole life before her
Oh no! She got called names! How horrible! They made fun of her forehead! That's so much worse than having your parents killed by your brother, or having your father order your uncle to kill you! She has the worst back story of all! Worse than Gaara, Naruto, and Sasuke's back story.
She got bullied by the writer man... Like the other people got bullied too but at least they were powerful. They had a impact. Write just hates females and Sakura just gets to do nothing
Gets called a couple of names and has the popular girl stand up for her. MUCH sadder than having your clan killed, being forced to kill your clan, being shunned, having everyone you love getting killed..
She was bullied. That's bad and all. But a lot worse than having everyone die or being ignored by everyone. Sakura u me waifu and everything. But everyone haS bUllies (not everyone most people though)
Its hard living without Parents and its even harder knowing you wont be able to ever see them again.
Just think about it, his parents died from The nine tail fox and then he made friends with him.
