The Contenders: Page 18
There's a load of wordplay, complicated rhyming, double entendres, symbolism, and just plain scathing condemnation of the modern workplace here. Fantastic.
The best lyrics Roger Waters has ever written and that says a lot considering the amount of brilliant songs he's done. Like 'Animals' and other concept albums, i.e. 'The Wall', 'Dark side of the moon', 'Wish you were here' and 'The Final Cut' are totally in a league of their own.
Who was born in a house full of pain.
Who was trained not to spit in the fan.
Who was told what to do by the man.
Who was broken by trained personnel.
Who was fitted with collar and chain.
Who was given a pat on the back.
Who was breaking away from the pack.
Who was only a stranger at home.
Who was ground down in the end.
Who was found dead on the phone.
Who was dragged down by the stone.
Oh no, this is my favorite lyricsV 1 Comment
"you were red and you liked me because I was blue. You touched me and suddenly I was a lilac sky, and then you decided purple just wasn't for you"
THAT SAYS IT ALL
"Do you remember falling in and out of love together?
Do you remember the good times as well as I do?
It feels like it should have lasted forever.
What good is your heart if it doesn't break?
Do you remember me?
Young, naive and turning nineteen."
Seeing This song so low disappointed me
And the car is off the road but I never had a car. And I pay more for my food 'cause the supermarket's too far.
It's expensive being poor because everything costs more, knocking on a closing door, it's expensive being poor, someone throw me down some crumbs I will eat them off the floor, it's expensive being poor but I look good when I get desperate.
And the box is on the fritz, it's a black and white, or was, I tried taking it to bits now the picture's just a grey fuzz.
It's expensive being poor because everything costs more someone pick me off the floor, it's expensive being poor, how can I live with what I did when the cinema's six quid? It's expensive being poor but I look good when I get desperate.
Let the good times roll Into a bottomless hole with job, friends and future my ideal home furniture, let the trumpets sound as my house falls down.
And the dust begins to clear and I'm lying on the ground, and I'm standing on a path in an unknown part ...more
Great song. Great lyrics
It can be interpreted in any way, it both elevates the song and can be appreciated without the music. Haunting, cryptic, strange, dark, beautiful.
Fleet foxes have an extremely beautiful way of saying things... A poem for the soul.
I am an ocean, I am the sea
There is a world inside of me
Lost in the abyss, drowned in the deep
No set of lungs could salvage me
Save yourself, save your breath
The tide's too strong, you'll catch your death
So breathe for me, just breathe
Bring me the horizon never lets me down. They's so lyrically talented!
