Top 10 Female Rock Climbers of 2015
Women have been doing amazing things in sports for as long as they've been allowed to play - and in many cases, even before. Rock climbing is no different. From Lynn Hill beating the boys up The Nose in Yosemite to Ashima Shiraishi, a 14-year-old, climbing some of the hardest problems and routes in the world, women are making their mark in the sport of climbing. This is a list of the best female rock climbers in the world in 2015. This means that, regardless of the time of their individual peaks in climbing, they must currently be climbing in 2015.
At just 14 years old, Ashima Shiraishi has already broken records for hard climbing at such a young age. She is within reach of the most difficult climbs ever established and has excelled in multiple climbing disciplines, defying expectations.
I am 13 years old, a girl, and one of the best climbers at my local gym (not to brag). Ashima Shiraishi opened my eyes to the world of climbing, but I must admit, I may never reach the fantastically high bar she has set.
She is amazing and really inspiring for me and everyone out there.
I met and spoke with Sasha in a writing class at Columbia in 2016. She possesses not only drive and passion but also the emotional and physical resilience to withstand life's challenges and disappointments. She is undoubtedly the top choice.
Sasha Digiulian, at just 23 years old, has already set remarkable records in climbing. She was the first woman to climb 5.14d twice and has won numerous awards. Her achievements and determination have solidified her status as one of the best female rock climbers of all time.
While she might not be climbing the hardest routes today, Lynn Hill has a history of groundbreaking ascents that have significantly raised the bar for climbers - both men and women. Her legacy firmly places her at the top of this list.
In addition to her climbing achievements, she has a college education and a background in gymnastics, further solidifying her status as one of the best climbers in the world, both historically and currently.
I disagree! Lynn Hill is #1! While the first two might be the best modern gym climbers or outdoor sport climbers, Lynn Hill was the first person ever to free climb The Nose. Additionally, some of her on-sights in Joshua Tree are still considered remarkable. If asked, I believe those climbers would humbly say, Um, no, Lynn is better.
Daila Ojeda was once recognized primarily as the partner of climbing star Chris Sharma, but she has since established herself as a prominent figure in her own right. She is a brand ambassador for several climbing and clothing companies and has made impressive ascents on some of the most challenging routes globally. Her accomplishments distinguish her from almost every other climber.
Lisa Rands is renowned for her bouldering expertise. She began her climbing career as an aid climber, transitioned to sport climbing, and eventually found her true passion in bouldering. She has climbed some of the hardest routes globally and consistently performs at the highest level in the sport.
Alex Puccio specializes in bouldering and frequently competes in competitions around the world. Her dedication to fitness, as well as her climbing achievements, has earned her magazine covers and made her an inspiration to both men and women in the climbing community.
As a 9-time National Champion, Alex Puccio inspires thousands of women with her incredible strength and commitment to the sport. She is truly remarkable and will be remembered as one of the greats!
I think Alex is a way better climber than Ashima!
Steph Davis is an extraordinary rock climber, BASE jumper, and wingsuit flyer. She has climbed some of the most challenging traditional and sport routes in the world. Beyond her athletic feats, she dedicates her time to inspiring women and children, making a significant impact beyond climbing.
Beth Rodden was the youngest woman to climb 5.14a and one of the few women to climb 5.14c trad. She is known for her hard ascents, groundbreaking new routes, and relentless dedication to her passion for climbing.
14 trad? Okay, way harder than any sport climb.
I saw Margo Hayes at my climbing gym yesterday and watched her do the speed wall in just 12 seconds. Later, I found out that's not even her best time. She's AMAZING!
Similar tenacity to Lynn Hill and first to break a barrier (5.15). She should be top 5 for sure.
She should be way higher up. Top 5 for sure, in my opinion.
Brooke Raboutou is incredibly young but can already climb as well as, if not better than, many of the people on this list. Her abilities are truly amazing.
I've seen Shauna training at my local center, and she's on another planet. The awards she's won say it all, really!
She has some of the strongest and smoothest climbing I've ever watched.
She's on a different level compared to everyone else. Winner at both lead and bouldering, and she's flashed two 8c's outside.
She makes it look so easy, I think I can do it too.
You have to update your list and put her on top!
A mother, nurse, and hard climber all in one, Jacinda boulders V11 and redpoints 5.14b. These are feats by themselves that defy most climbers.
Brittany Griffith is a master of all climbing disciplines and often outclimbs her male counterparts. Known for her exceptional desert traditional climbing skills, she is sponsored by multiple companies and consistently puts up first ascents.
Such a role model for young climbers. She has inspired me in so many ways.
Saw her climbing while growing up as a kid! She's amazing!
She redefines what climbing technique means. If there ever was a climbing "genius," it would be Akiyo!
