Top 10 Star Wars Duels
Okay, let's begin at Episode 4, with what seems like two sixty-somethings battling it out over some cheese. Although in my personal opinion the best film, Ben and Vader's lightsaber fight was as dull as watching paint dry.
Then to Episode 5, an almost equally good film, which features Luke charging around like some drunk, waving his lightsaber around like it's nobody's business. Vader doesn't even need to do anything! Then 6, which is probably the only one of the six which even has a chance of knocking Ep 4 off the top spot for me. Luke's sobered up, and Vader has managed to speed up ever so slightly, and the battle is definitely the highlight of the film.
But we can't stop there. Episode 1, the film that could have been great if you removed Jar Jar, Anakin, Qui-Gon, the plot, and the Japanese squids that get slaughtered by cool Vader. Maul's battle with the two Jedi that I didn't learn the names of until I'd watched it twice over was incredible and made the original three movies look a bit slow.
Honestly, Episode 2 had the worst battle out of the prequels, with Anakin and Obi-Wan messing it up and leaving poor innocent Yoda to not win. And so finally we come to Episode 3, which has, for no reason I understand, gained no love as a film. The plot, although predictable, was great and the battles blew me away. Dooku vs. Skywalker, I'll admit, was a bit samey and repetitive, but Grievous was something completely new and Mace Windu versus old man Palpatine was quite watchable.
Ultimately, it all came down to the back-to-back battle of Kenobi vs. Skywalker, the battle every Star Wars fan had been waiting for since 1983, and Yoda vs. The Emperor, which was an epic battle in its own right. That is why I don't understand why it is only at number 10 currently. Kenobi vs. Skywalker, if I may quote from a previous comment, defined the term 'lightsaber combat'. It was the greatest battle one could witness, with every element that could possibly be... more
This shouldn't even be a discussion. Maul vs Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon will always be the best battle in Star Wars. Simply amazing.
Great music, great Jedi, great lightsaber colors. Come on, two blue lightsabers? Boring...
The duel is far more emotional than the first one since it is Luke knowing he must defeat his father.
This duel is great. It is way underrated and shows how awesome Count Dooku can be. Besides, Dooku is the best duelist in the Star Wars galaxy!
There should be no doubt in anyone's mind that this is the best duel in all of Star Wars history. Dueling isn't just about how flashy a fight can be. It's about the tension, the dialogue in between, the characters, the significance of what is going on, and the significance of how it concludes. This final fight scene has all these elements and does them all extremely well. Also, it contains the best plot twist in cinematic history. That's got to count for something.
This battle, though not as epic as Anakin vs. Obi-Wan, is still one of the most famous and destructive lightsaber duels in galactic history. I mean, they dueled in the Senate for a Gundark's sake. Come on. They were both grand masters of the Force and equally matched. This duel proves two things. One: Yoda is one kick-ass little dude and two: Say what you want about Palpatine, but he is one kick-ass swordsman and pretty good with the Force.
The Newcomers
This is hardly even a lightsaber duel, but it counts. This is the scene when Qui-Gon, Padme, Jar Jar, Anakin, and R2-D2 are returning to the royal cruiser when Darth Maul attacks.
I love Rey and Kylo, and seeing them fight together, even though the end was very sad, was so cool! This should be number one!
